Is it too late to jump on the challenge wagon? I want to lose 12 pounds by Christmas! I am a very slow loser, but that will put me at 50 pounds lost and will require a lot of hard work over the next 7 weeks. I hope I can do it -- I am also going to try *jogging* 3x per week too. That will be a first for me! I have always been a WALKER. SW: 278 CW: 240 Christmas Challenge Goal Weight: 228

Woohoo! Go girl! You look amazing! -
OK. So, I'm 3 months out, and I've been getting my Protein in, limiting carbs and cals (about 800 per day) and trying to walk 30 mins a day. I usually get about 7-8 hours of sleep... which has always been sufficient. But, all of a sudden, this past week, I feel totally exhausted. Yesterday, I just HAD to put my head down and I actually fell asleep at my desk. Luckily, I was awakened by a meeting reminder alert on my phone, but I am still in SHOCK that I could just fall asleep like that. Today, I feel like it could happen again, so I keep getting up to stretch or walk around to resist the urge to put my head down. What is wrong with me?!

Fighting for every pound....
queenmab replied to Marie from Michigan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for sharing! I am a slow loser, too. After 3 months, I am down 34 pounds, and with 100 left to go, it's easy to get frustrated and not to remember to count every pound lost as a victory... Today, I am victorious. Thanks for that! -
I'm having a hard time remembering not to drink during meals. I don't understand why. I have always had to keep my water intake very high due to vaso-vagal symptoms (I faint if I get dehydrated) and I have such a strong need to sip water between bites of food. Is there a reason that I can't or shouldn't - why do I need to wait 30 mins after a meal to drink anything?

Great job! You look amazing. WAY TO GO!

Seven months and 92 pounds
queenmab replied to SKCUNNINGHAM's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That's amazing! How have you done it? What do you eat on a typical day? Do you exercise much? I'm 10 weeks in since surgery, and I am just not having that level of success. I know everyone is different and that I should not balk at the 30 pounds that I have lost so far (including pre-op loss), but getting to a near-100 pound loss just seems impossible to me. -
I think you are tired because your protein and caloric intakes are so low! I would recommend getting more protein in. If you are eating yogurt in the AM, try blending it with flavorless protein powder and some skim plus or soy milk and make your own version of a protein shake. Or add a little cottage cheese to your sugar free jello.

Girls weekend wine !?
queenmab replied to kayseegee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I say go for it! My philosophy is that you have to LIVE your life and squeeze as much joy out of it as you can. So, if that means you have a glass of wine occasionally, you should do it. Remember, however, that alcohol can lead to an increase in appetite and MINDLESS eating. So, be careful. I am 6 weeks out and had a glass of wine at my girlfriend's birthday at 3 weeks out. I took tiny sips all night long and really made it last! Plus, I carried the glass with me in one hand and a napkin in the other, so I had something in my hands all the time, which made me really think everytime I found myself reaching for chips and finger foods or the desserts that folks brought to the party. Good luck! -
I am 6 weeks out and feeling like my sleeve isn't working! I have only lost 10 pounds since my surgery on 7/11/11 and even adding excercise and more water hasn't seemed to help. Any suggestions?

When did you feel good post op
queenmab replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 weeks out, but I felt a ton better by 2 weeks; then by 3 weeks, I felt great. -
WOW! I totally get it now. Thank you!

I decided to not tell anyone with the exception of my husband... I really wanted to do this for myself with no judgement or discussion from or with or by anyone. I have spent so much of my life trying to please other people and live up to their expectations. VSG was for me and my expectations for myself and my future. As for work, folks know that I had surgery and was out of the office for one week, but they all respected my privacy and just asked if I was OK or needed anything but they didn't pry for details and I only shared what I felt comfortable with. In the one month since my surgery, friends have noticed that I eat very little around them, but they also know that I am always trying something new for weight loss, so I chalk it up to that and try to arrange activities that don't center around meals and eating. It's working for me so far, but there may come a time when I want to tell other folks - like my mom and brother and my closest friends... we'll see. For now, this is all mine - my journey - my opportunity, and I want to keep it that way.

I am actually experiencing this now but with B12. I am one month out and have found once I started taking B12 that my hunger increased and I could actually consume more food. Did you ever get a response or any feedback on this? I have told my doc about it, and she said to stop taking B12 for 1 month and see if I notice any difference.

I have read a ton of blogs and forum posts in the last few weeks - as I have been fighting with my scale which is showing a 2-pound gain - and this one was so so so very helpful and informative! THANK YOU! The scale is going into the closet and the water bottle is going EVERYwhere with ME. -
Feeling frustrated and depressed
queenmab replied to queenmab's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement! I am feeling better and more positive now and will keep following my program and hope that my weight will come off. It is a long journey and I know I cannot expect miracles. Plus, I am hypothyroid and I know that will make weight loss even harder even with this new tool.
