    Gall Bladder & Lapband

I had my gall bladder out back in the 80's when they cut you completely open. So I am pretty sure my lapband surgery will be a lot easier to deal with!

    I....am...banded

I have not had my surgery yet, but I am suppose to get Gas-X to use after surgery.

    I....am...banded

    Congratulations to both of you!
  4. I don't plan on telling anyone. Currently only my husband knows of my June 13th surgery. I will probably end up telling my son and daughter-in-law but they will be sworn to secrecy. Why? I don't want the diet police talking behind my back if I eat something that they think I shouldn't. I am taking vacation for my surgery so no one at my work will know. It's not like I am embarrassed, but we all know there are those out there that will tempt us to eat things we shouldn't. But if I can say I am cutting back, eating the right foods, and exercising more without using the word DIET, they will not make such a big of it. Does this make sense? Good Luck with your surgery!
  5. I haven't had my surgery yet, but the nutritionist told me I could not drink during my meal because it would wash the food through the band and it would take longer to feel full. In that case I would eat more. The same goes with waiting for 30 minutes after the meal.

    Some Thoughts

Thanks for sharing Jamie. I get banded June 13th and as it gets closer I am realizing how much I munch between meals. Some healthy Snacks but of course unhealthy snacks too. I seem to do really good at work because I take my lunch and snacks with me. When I get home...loookout! Congrats on your weight loss so far! Janet

    What's your happy weight?

I'm 5'3" and my "happy weight" will be 140, but that is at the top of the normal BMI. My goal is 130, I am 57 and it would be rediculous for me to set an unrealistic goal of say, 120 or below. I refuse to set my self up for disappointment. My surgery is scheduled for June 13th and I can't wait!

    Weight Watchers Online: Support Thread

There is a food diary on www.lapband.com. Go to the "My Progress" tab and choose "food diary". I plan on using it once I get banded (June 13th). It's free and is says "Use your food log to track the foods you eat each day. The tracker will analyze your foods and estimate your daily calories and nutrition." Has anyone tried it?

    Eating Out With The Band?

Not banded yet (surgery in June) and was wondering do you go out to restaurants to eat? If you do, what do you order?

    Eating Out With The Band?

Thanks for the replys. I'm glad I have choices. I was afraid I might not be able to order anything (not sure why I thought that). I usually take 1/2 my meal home now when I go out. I agree the portion sizes now a days is way too much food. I like fish and chicken, but will miss my steak. I will cut a small bite off my husband's steak and put it in my takehome box to try at home!
  13. I guess it depends on what is important to you. I went to my first seminar Mar 2011 and thought I don't need the band, I can lose the weight on my own. Three months later I was 10 pounds heavier. I had to face the music...I need help to get this weight off. My surgery is scheduled for June and I am so excited to think that I will be able to play with my granddaughter and to walk at a decent pace and not get out of breath. I am also looking forward to getting off my cholesteral and blood pressure meds. And to get some new clothes!! I find myself taking bites of food and swallowing and then realizing I didn't chew it very well. I am already becoming more aware of the way I eat and the things I eat. I might be wrong but I feel this surgery will be easy. I have had a hip and a knee replacement and they made a great change in my life. I plan on my band surgery to take me to a better place in my life. Good luck in your decision. Only you can make the decision because you have to live with it for the rest of your life.
  14. My surgery is scheduled for June 13th. i would of liked it sooner but I changed jobs and this will be the first chance I can get a week and half off. However, I am just glad I get to have the surgery. After two denials, I called and made my own appeal and I was shocked to receive a call saying they had approved it. So, remember, never give up. I talked to my doctor's office before I made the call and they said "they probably need to hear it from you, the patient". Not sure what I said that changed their minds but I'm glad I kept trying. Now on to the hair topic. I have thick shoulder length hair and I hate to think about losing it. Is there anyone that has NOT lost their hair? My doctor did say that thinning could happen but some of the stories here sound really bad.
  15. Thank you! I really appreciate the replys. I agree anethesia can be hard on your hair. I have had several major surgeries over the years and I think my hair got whiter every time...lol On the upside, I went from a brunette to a blonde! I will also keep an eye on my proten, I think that will be important to keep up my stamina.
  16. Thanks! I have seen Biotin mentioned in a lot of posts. Where do I find it? Do I have to go to GNC or can I find it with the vitamins at the grocery store?

    Three More Meals To Go....

Good Luck Amanda! How exciting to get one step closer to your surgery! I am not scheduled until June, so I will be looking forward to hearing about your journey. I'm sure you will make it through your liquid stage just fine :-)
  18. In order for insurance to cover, I have to undergo a Drs weight management for 6 months. I see my Dr. this week and have made all my appointments for the next six months. I am excited about getting this all behind and getting on with the surgery. In the meantime, I am reading everything I can about the lapband surgery pre and post op. I went to a seminar in April and thought, like we all do, I do not need this I can lose weight on my own. WRONG! So, now I feel I lost six months, but looking forward, not backwards.
