  1. Hi All, I haven't been on here for a while, but it is good to see everyone is doing well! I had my sleeve surgery Oct. 20th, and while I am still not at goal, I have lost SO much more weight than I would have without this tool! AND I have had to buy an entire new wardrobe (Okay, not new, I buy second hand, because I am saving all of my money for GOAL clothes). I LOVE my sleeve!
  2. Sign me up! I LOVE reading your posts, and I think you provide valuable and HONEST insight! I also love the fact that you exercise a TON! Thank you for all the info you share!

    Slow weight loss

Thank you to EVERYONE who posted on this thread!!! I can't express how encouraged I am. A slow loss is STILL a loss, and I am going to start looking at things from a more postive perspective

    How long off work?

Each person is a little different. I had my surgery late Thursday afternoon (4 pm), and I went back to work on Tuesday morning. I was really tired at the end of the day, but otherwise fine. I work full time and go to school for 5 hours in the evening, so my days are pretty long. My suggestion: if you HAVE the time off, TAKE the time off. Unfortunately, I just didn't have the time to take, and I need the money
  6. Thanks for sharing! Great article

    Recovering

Hi sleeve sibling! Just a quick note to check in and see how you are holding up
  8. So surgery next week, and I made the mistake of sharing my decision with a few friends. Now I am secong guessing myself.. Any words of encouragement are super welcome right now!!!
  9. So I have been training for a half marathon (walking), but I will only be 11 days out from my surgery. Everyone says that walking is important, but I am guessing 13 miles, even at a slow pace, will be a bit much . While I know this particular race is a wash, when did everyone begin/contunie to exercise beyond small laps at the hospital/home. How did you feel?
  10. After months of soul search, secret keeping, saddened sharing and lurking on this site, TOMORROW IS THE BIG DAY!!!! I just want to say 'thank you' to everyone who has been brave enough to post a comment or share a thought. I am not usually so brave, and these posts have helped SO much. Can't wait to take a walk on the "sleeved" side . If I have anything resembling energy, I will post updates!

  15. Hi All, With surgery just a few days away, in my continued frenzied research I found this blog page. It is specifically for GP patients, but based on all of the posts I've seen on here, it seems like sleevers have a VERY similar expierence. Good to know that what I might be feeling in the future is NORMAL http://gastricbypasstruth.com/life-after-gastric-bypass/one-month-after-gastric-bypass-buyers-remorse/

    Cold feet?

Thank you all for the advice, and the "tough" love . I KNOW this is the right decision. I am just a little taken aback by the some of the reactions I have been getting. At this point, I'm "all in" lol, but I guess I hoped for a different reaction. Thank you again. FIVE MORE DAYS!!!!
  18. Not judging, but I don't think ANYONE begins with a BMI of 45 or 50. I am guessing that other methods of weight loss are tried before this point. At some point, after NUMEROUS failed attempts, the weight just gets out of control. The FDA recently approved Lap Band for patients for BMI's of 30 (Perhaps with comorbids? not sure). In essence, it seemed like a better idea to help people with a genuine weight issue SOONER rather than LATER. I am at a lower BMI as well (admittedly, a bit higher than 30). I have been overweight since I was 7 or 8, with various doctor and self interventions. Making this decision is HARD, and from what I have researched, it recovery is HARDER. As long as you know that this is not a quick fix or use this as a way to lose those last few pounds before a special event, I say GO FOR IT!!! If this is a decision to just avoid dieting and exercise, the long timers will tell you IT DOESN'T WORK!!! It looks like the only way to TRULY lose weight with the sleeve, after the inital weight loss, it with diet and exercise (go figure lol). Otherwise, you WILL gain the weight back, and the next surgery will have to be MORE drastic; you've already removed 90% of your stomach. JMHO, and GOOD LUCK!!!!
  19. Hi there, I am struggling to get through my pre-op diet (on day 3), and I recently spoke with a friend who had the same surgery and did NOT have to go on a pre-op diet. Has anyone else heard of this? Our BMI's are similiar, but we are using different doctors. I will follow my doctor's orders, but I am TERRIFIED of slipping up and having surgery cancelled. Any thoughts?

    No Pre-op diet?

Thank you guys for answering. Ironically, it makes it easier to stick to a pre-op diet knowing that there may not be life threatening consequences if I have a cracker or two :-). Any additional thoughts are welcome!
  21. I'm new here, so this may exist already, but perhaps she could start a spouses support group on this site? It appears that your wife is not unique in her feelings, and it might be good to have a place where the emotions can get worked out...and help other spouses at the same time! Just a thought. Oh, and CONGRATS on your success!

    OCTOBER 2011 SLEEVE ROSTER

I can's say enough about this site! I haven't really discussed my decision with anyone besides my hubby and my doctors, but it seems most people aren't very supportive. It's GREAT to find other people to share with
