*NEW* June Sleevers Master List
KKoman replied to JackieOMonroe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had my VSG surgery on June 13th. -
I am somewhat embarrassed to ask this question, but am notgetting good answers from the doctor, or my local support group. I know I can trust my on-line support groupto help me - you guys are great! Has anyone had any problems with vomiting while having aBM? I am 8 weeks post op, and I havebeen having dry-heaves with BMs for the past 3 weeks. At first, I did not associate the vomitingwith going to the bathroom (I thought I might be reacting to foods like milk, toosugary a drink, an oatmeal-raisin cookie, etc.). I asked my surgeon and he suggested it has to do with cramps/strainingand the body pushing things up, instead of out. I accept this explanation to apoint, but it happens when I am NOT straining – these are liquid stools. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Possibly . . . it usually happens in the afternoon, and once in the evening. I'll keep an eye on the timing with eating.

I am now having a BM about 2x/week - which is very hard for me to get used to, since I had IBS prior to surgery, and was going to the bathroom on average 2x/day! No dry-heaving any other time. But, I don't throw up every time . . . this morning, I had a fairly normal trip to the bathroom!

Woke up choking on acid!!
KKoman replied to kellyw74's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For those that take Protonix, does it help with the hunger/stomach growling thing?? That is HUGE for me and I really do not feel so hungry on the Prilosec. I take Protonix, and rarely feel hungry. However, I can't say that it is BECAUSE of the medicine. I have not had any stomach growling since the surgery. I think I finally understand the phrase, "eat to live, rather than live to eat!" -
Many years ago, my aunt lost 100+ pounds with weight watchers (of course, she has gained it all back plus more). She said her bra size went from a size 46DDD to a 36 LONG!!

I am post menopausal (age 49). I think I am perfectly average in my weight loss - 35 pounds in 7.5 weeks, On the one hand, I am not anxious about how much I lose, or don't lose. ANYTHING is better than nothing - and it is definitely better than continuing to gain weight! But, on the other hand, I will be disappointed if I do not lose close to 100 pounds in a year.

Woke up choking on acid!!

I never had acid problems before my surgery, but have been plagued by it since (7 weeks post-op). At first, I didn't even know what was wrong! My doc initially gives everyone a standard prescription for Pepcid. The Pepcid did not do the trick for me, so he prescribed Protonix, which has helped a lot. The doc said I may also need to continue to take the Pepcid on occasion. These two meds work differently, and are safe to take together (according to the doc!). -
post op difficulty and discouraged

My Doc has a store attached to his office. I buy all my protien stuff there, 'cause I KNOW without a doubt that he approves of it - it has his name all over it!! Here is the web site, where you can buy it, too: https://cmhva.infusionsoft.com/cart/store.jsp?view=1&i=24&navicat=24 The "Weight & Inches" shakes have 29g of protein, and replace a full meal. Most of the other stuff has 15g of protein. I liked the chocolate Weight & Inches. -
"Sleevie Wonder" - I LOVE it!!

Looking for VSG buddies in Hampton Roads VA
KKoman replied to soon2loseit's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello! I live in Newport News, and got my sleeve done just 2 weeks ago by Dr. Clark, at the Sentara Hampton General Careplex. -
Looks like I am the old lady in this group. I am 49 years old, and faciing my half century mark in January. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 18 years. Between us, we have 3 successful adult children, and 8 grandchildren. I had my sleeve done 2 weeks ago, and am thrilled to say that I have already lost 20 pounds! I can't say that I wish I had done this years ago, because this surgery wasn't available to me years ago. The VSG makes more sense to me than the other options. Anyway, I feel like I "cheated" my children out of an active mother. I am not going to do the same to the grand kids! I am looking forward to playing with them as much as possible.

I am now 2 weeks post op, and did not wait for my doctor's official permission (follow-up appointment is tomorrow) to begin the soft food diet. I had gotten to the point of gagging at just the THOUGHT of protein powder in ANYTHING! ugh!
-
I was told "no gum" - mostly because it adds air to the stomach.

Thank you, so much, for starting this thread and asking this question. I am also 8 days out and in the same boat as you. Just the thought of protien shakes, etc is making me SICK! I am so relieved to read the other responses about focusing on hydration. I can do that! How are you now?

Hello! I am VERY NEW at blogging. This is my first attempt, so be patient with me.
