Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Sara Mos replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sorry Ive not posted much, my head has been stuck in revision books, on pharamacology, pharmokenetics, dynamics, ateology...blah blah blah...its a good sleep inducer I've found!! Launas...I used to drink old perculiar when I was preggers (that was like guiness!!LOL) hey go careful on that stuff girl its high in the calories stakes.....LOL...we used to give it to patients on the wards years ago to get their (so called ) iron levels up...hehehe.... ihomeschool4....you poor thing going through that, as well as having the band, I really hope you feel better real soon. Prayers to ya xxx Goonabefree...I saw that documentary to, supersize me, gosh by the end of it he was almost killing himself on that stuff, it was scary at the damage it did. But as you were all discussing, I used to pull in at those places and get a drive-by-meal and eat it in the car so no one saw me, sometimes before a meeting, I must of stank of bugers!!! Teach...LOL I love your ticker! It made me laugh!!! Pam...I know what you mean about not thinking were big either, I also kind of deluded myself, I was not that 'bad' even though I am the biggest woman in the company (the others are all 'sticks') what really made me face my demons was when I started getting sleep apneona, and after 6 + months of that and difficulty breathing (huffing and puffing walking) I knew (and so did my hubby) realise that if I didnt do something asap, I was going to be in 'BIG' trouble. Thing is, its facing our problems initially thats hard, then the realisation dawns, then its like 'why the heck didnt I do this sooner' duhhhhh????? Terry....you lucky duck getting your fill this week, I cant wait for you to tell us how it was for you, (in detail please!! ) Mines not till Saturaday after next. I know what you mean guys about the 'starving factor' beacuse Im facing that too.....and goodies....last night....I kept singing the word 'Alcohol' to a tune I know.....Sophie thought I was turning into a father Ted figure...'DRINK....DRINK....DRINK' gawd I could of murdered one last night....but I'm trying not to drink now (I used to every day after work) now I'm trying only to have any booze only if we go out for dinner, or friends over etc (although I did have some white wine last Sunday, and promptly overselpt on the Mon am!). Smoking well, I am ashamed to say I am still smoking, the doc put me on those pills called zyban, 7 days later, I felt like my right side of my neck was going to explode, it felt like a artery was bulging and it was sooooooo painful, so I stoped taking them. I havent gone back to my GP yet, Ive decided to get this ***@!!! exam over 1st, then try other methods, so Im a bit of a failure in this so far. Well, have a great Wednesday folks Lots of Love Sara xxx -

Well back from another mamoth day on the IOW, I overslept and I woke at 6am, I nearly died as I have to leave the house at 06.30 am to get the 08.15 ferry! Anyway, bit naughty but I drove faster than normal and got to the port in an hour (it normally takes 1.45mins!!!) lol, dont think I'll turn the alarm off again and roll back to sleep Launas, thanks for your encouraging words :biggrin1: hey you know you were talking about booze, well I drank white wine last night, and I dont even like it that much, lol, anyway it went down a bit too quickly, lol! I know what you mean about kind of stopping it, its wasted calories, and when I do drink I want to 'pick' at food too, thats the problem! Kity hows you ?? Hey I've cancelled all my work (bar 2 days) for the next two weeks to cram in for the exam (its on the 14th) so I can have a bit more of a life again, rather than studying at 9pm onwards, lol. Tracy cool pics Tracy, its weird isnt it, looking at how the band sits around the stomach, hey and I dont think your livers that fatty!! Terry ok, please please tell us about the exercise challenge for May, cos I would like to join ya if thats ok, is it 3 or 4 times a week or more and is it 30 + mins each time?? Jennifur I sure hope you find a job hon, I'll say a little prayer for you x I bet your angels are lining up a really special one for ya Teach aw you lucky thing, you have 2 charms already on your bracelet, I'm looking forward to getting my first charm. Its funny I wear my links bracelet EVERY DAY!! It reminds me of the journey Im on Kity ....inlaws are just hard work sometimes, especially when your under such a lot of stress and worry. You know, if you can, I'd say to them how you feel about there interferences, I know they are only trying to help and are woried, but they probably dont realise the added stress they are putting on you. I have inlaws.......I only see them x 2 a year I guess that tells ya something!! Love and prayers sent to ya Well folks.....I am on the hard stuff now....lol.....food!!! I was silly today I grabbed a pot of cottage cheese & pinapple this am as I flew out the door, anyway I was STARVING when I got home from work as that is all I ate and I resisted temptation at stoping off at a motorway stop for a 'snack' anyway I ate Daves beef casarole, which is yummy, but I ate too quickly and developed another golf ball.....you know I know what a golf ball reminds me off now ...... my cat mog... (ok this is going to sound DISGUSTING) when he coughs up hair balls......sophie said ....mum...'go away'....lol...as I was standing next to her, I'm going to call PBing...doing a 'mog' from now on!! Evening All Teach that is an awsom weight loss...5lbs....wow I wish I could lose like that!! You must be over the moon! I know what you mean about how this surgery does vary for people, I havent gone into detail on here but mine was really painful, and the actual op took 3.5hrs instead of 1hr, because I had complications, my poor hubby was waiting 4hrs or so for me to return from theater, after 4 days though I felt much better, hope your friend feels better quickly too. Jennifur omg you must have nearly fainted if your dog did all that damage to your pool equiptment, hope its ok! I think the name shrinking VIOLETS! is really cool, I love it! Well Im progressing onto hard foods now (as per my consultant and dieticians instructions) My calorie intake is shooting up though, Ive had 1220 ish today :phanvan ....I count every calorie, I feel a bit sad that my weight loss has almost stopped, I know I get a fill on the 12th, but Ive just got to keep my spirits up! Hi Suzan & anon, I think Im going :kev: ga ga, I dreamt the other night that after I posted what I eat, I was told off by you guys because Im not eating enough! LOL ....I think Im voming on this site too much, combined with food restriction...lol!!!!!!!! I think your right suzan, normally we'd be eating 2000+ cals at least pre band, Im becoming a bit obessed by calories now too? I dont have my fill till 12th of May, so Im 'dieting' now basically. The weight loss has slowed to 1-2lbs a week, I know thats what it should be, I think I might get my hubby to get rid of the scales and only weigh x 1 monthly, because Fluid levels really muck it up, then after 4 weeks I'l have a 'nice surprise hopefully! Please tell us how it feels etc, I'm not particulary looking forward to mine (Im pain shy at the best of times!) Tracy sounds like youve done really well post op, and everything went smoothly, dont over do it now take like real slowly for a couple of days :biggrin1: Weight loss after the band (pre fill) Ive seen a lot of you talk about this in the last couple of pages, it does slow down dramatically after the 1st week (especially those of us that didnt do a strict pre diet) Ive kept a diary of my weight loss for the 1st month, I'll weigh in again on Monday (as that is my official day, and hey I might have lost another Lb..wayyheyy who knows says the eternal optimist!!) <TABLE style="WIDTH: 107pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=142 border=0 x:str><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 59pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 2852" width=78><COL style="WIDTH: 48pt" width=64><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; WIDTH: 59pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=78 height=17>Weight loss</TD><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; WIDTH: 48pt; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" width=64 x:str="April ">April </TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>Week 1</TD><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num>13</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>Week 2</TD><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num>2</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>Week 3</TD><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num>1</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>Week 4</TD><TD class=xl22 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num>2</TD></TR><TR style="HEIGHT: 12.75pt" height=17><TD class=xl23 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; HEIGHT: 12.75pt; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" height=17>Total loss:</TD><TD class=xl23 style="BORDER-RIGHT: #ece9d8; BORDER-TOP: #ece9d8; BORDER-LEFT: #ece9d8; BORDER-BOTTOM: #ece9d8; BACKGROUND-COLOR: transparent" align=right x:num x:fmla="=SUM(B2:B5)">18</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE> Inches lost: Difference from last month <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> 2- inches off hips<o:p></o:p> 1 ½ inches off waist<o:p></o:p> ½ inch of R arm<o:p></o:p> 1 inch off R leg<o:p></o:p> Its been a hard old slog this week (work wise), and Ive been away half of it......so am hoping that next week will be fantasticaly easier! lol Loves ya all xxxx Sara xx -

Hi Everyone!! Well, I am impressed....20+lb weight loss ard & Julee71....WOW way to go ladies! You must feel amazing!!! Laura, sorry to hear your still in pain, you must be so fed up by now, its misrable when you feel like that. Terry....I love the cartoon! Pam, aw thanks for mising me ((Hugs)) I made it through the training course, and I avoided the bar like the plauge, infact you'll all be impressed...I drank water in the evening, I did have a few sips of wine but it tasted disgusting (it was really sour!). Tomorrow is my next challenge...Im off to work in the Isle of Wight (its an island off the coast of the UK) and I work there every week, and Im staying overnight again this week, but its only me, no word crowds to tempt me with booze, when ever I work away from home, I dont like eating in resturants by myself, I get nervous, so I end up buying alsorts of food and drink from Marks & Spencers, so I'll just buy a pot of pinapple and cottage cheese for dinner tomorrow night. Jennifur..how did the job interview go today, let us know wont you? (actually Ive just applied online this evening for a job Ive seen advertised, not sure I'll even get an interview though?). Daves taken Sophs out for a practice in his car (driving) he calls it his white knuckle ride, lol, she's just turned 17 and started driving lessons, so my poor old hubby is rostered in to teach her driving inbetween lessons! Lunasa hows it going?? madri sounds like your having fun with all of your protein drink sample packs, I hope they taste nice!! BeckyNTn good luck tomorrow!! Tracy....were all thinking of ya xxxx DynamoMini I know what you mean, my weight loss has slowed right down now too, maybe 1-2lbs a week now, but yes I'm worried long term too that it works. I think it takes a while before we really feel a restriction, after the fills, and Ive no idea what that will feel like, I have the first one on the 12th May. I mean I cant eat that much still, and my meals are small. I start hard foods on Monday (48hrs clear liquids then 3 days soups yogurts tea etc then mushie food for 3 weeks...then real food :paranoid ) so we'll see how it goes, I have tried a few things that I thought were mushie...a few mouthfuls of pasta, rice etc, but Im not trying them again as I got really bad pain, so Ive since stuck religously to mashed potatoe-runny, anything that melts basically..and boy am I sick of soup:cry Kity I think your posts on here are invaluable, and very informative...so dont stop will you!! Your our mentor!! Lots of Love Sara xx -
Hi Saggij, No problem, maybe we can meet you up another time. I too am flat out now, just got back from a 2 day IT course....and in 2.5 weeks I have to take an exam for work, so I feel like a human robot at the mo with full time work and study!! Ive lost 17lbs in total now (it was 3 weeks ago I had the op) still on the mushie stage, but next Monday I can start having proper food again, I think I must be pretty much healed inside now? But am still eating small amounts.... Anyway, take care for now, Sara xx

Pam, Lauraj, & Jennifur! Its so great to see you all!! I think your pics are just lovely! & like Pam says its so nice to see who were all talking to! Your all bloody GEORGOUS, and just think in a years time were all be stunners :biggrin1: All of us on here :biggrin1: Laura, Im so pleased your ok, I must say it must have been a very scary time what you went through the other day, I hope each day gets better and better now! Jennifur, well done on stayin away from the BBQ party w/k. W/K are definately harder to get through. Well Ive done x 2 lots of exercise this w/k, and in total (its been 3 weeks today since I had the band!) Ive lost 17lbs......I think I might have to get my hubbie to get rid of my scales though, as this week (wrong time of the month) they have fluctuated by 5lbs :embarassed: ....I need to get rid of the darn things! Wish me luck folks, Im dreading this week.....Im off to a 2 day training workshop near London with the company I work for, I didnt tel that many folks from work about my op, but word did get out...gawd...I know Im going to face a million questions about the surgery, and the sort of food they serve for lunch I wont be able to eat, so Im taking some soup for the hotel to heat up (LOL) and Im going to avoid the bar where the booze-a-floweth.....:straight Loves ya all xxxxxxxx Sara -

Jennifur (((Hugs))) Jennifur, I can so relate to what you experienced today, and it was wise not to go, even though you felt isolated. In a few weeks time once you start on hard food, it wont be so bad, Im looking forward to experiencing eating again, were in a weird situation at the moment, and we cant eat normal food yet, and were unsure whats safe and whats not, if that makes sence. Keep your chin up xx it will get better soon, and hopefully the pain in your arm will go real son. Sara x -

Hi Lauraj, Well I didnt 'go to the loo' until the 4th day after surgery, fluid definately helps ok. The other senario with the pain, Im not sure it could be gas, or it could be the band slightly moving I dont know? Last week I had a weird situation too, I lead on my L side (& Im top heavy) anyway, I heard a sort of a pop sound, then I had a sharp pain where the band is, so I thought it might have moved slightly beacuse I was laying funny, and Im top heavy which put pressure on it?? Anyway the pain only lasted a few seconds, like you I was a bit worried, but Im ok now? See how you go, and if you still have twinges or they get worse give the Dr a call? Sara x -

Hi Pam, I saw the Dr on Monday and she gave me these pills called Zyban to help me quit smoking, I take 1 per day, then after 6 days I take 2 a day....Im not sure if they are giving me weird dreams, last night I sort of had a nightmare...so well see. Good for you giving up smoking pam, it is hard, yet another addiction, I think I must be an addictive person. I started exercising today, I haven done a lot, but boy did the sweat drip off me, I managed 3 mins jogging and 4 mins walking fast on the jogger, only 3 .5 mins on the elpical trainer (& I thought I was going to pass out) and 6 mins on the rower, and then sat on my big silver ball and did weights (re arms) its not a lot, but if I can up these by 1 min per day, and get it to 10 mins on the 3 lots of equiptment and 10 mins weights...thats my goal. What is everyone elses exercise routines? I know if I dont do it, I wont tone up, or burn calories. Im not sure what my exercise routine should be? I was thinking 1 day doing a walk (at the w/k) 1 day have a swim, and the rest do what I mentioned with the exercise equiptment? I dunno? Any suggestions, only its got to fit in to a weird working routine.... Sara x -

I guess I had hoped to lose more, but its my own fault for not exercising, I have to do something for 30 mins a day (which starts today!) I went down to see my mum today, and asked if shed go swimming with me x 1 a week, so she said shed look into which nearest Pool we could go too, got to think positive and look forwards your right! Thank you Lunasa!!!!!!! Thank Gawd your ok! I did wonder how you were getting on and thought you may have stayed in the North a bit longer....welcome to 'BANDLAND' x Jullee71, high hon, Id call your Dr like Terry said, you could also try eating an ice lollie inbetween sips of water...give the hospital a call, and check it out, let us know how you are x Sara xx -

Hi Krystal, I found your post really moving, and thought provoking. Your honesty, and reflection on your past year has inspired me to really get my act together too. I was only banded 3 weeks ago, but its true what you said, its so easy to add a bit of cheese or butter to food etc, and slowly its easy to end up back on an uphill struggle to lose the weight, even with a band. Thank you for this thread, you are setting an inspiration to us all with your honesty, determination and self belife. I want to wish you success, happiness and health with the 'new you' keep it up Krystal, because were all wanting you to succeed! sara xx -

Hi Guys! Terry thats great news on the weight loss and shrinking sizes! I got on the scales again this am, I havent lost anymore weight, Im still down 14lbs, (I was down 15 at one point) this weeks been not typical (sophies B'day, given up smoking and on these tablets now to help me,my anniversary, started back at work, wrong time of the month) its like everything happened together. Im going to have to try harder and incorporate exercise. I read that lady's post yesterday on how she though shed lose weight (Krystals dairy) by just the band, it really did bring it home to me and make me think. I think once I'm on solids (2 weeks time) I might follow the South Beach diet, and just exercise, exercise , exercise!!! I am keeping a food diary, I write it down every night, most days I average 850 cals now, although this week I did go high on my anniversary night re the red wine. I'm going to have to really focus, I just dont want to fail, not this time, not ever again with weight loss, I just cant........... Daves taking Lucy my eldest back to Cambridge today, she's studying Philosophy there, so he wont be home till tomorrow, so today Im going to get active, then start studying for this exam (work one which is in 3 weeks). Janibug, take it easy, and enjoy it at your mums Have a great Saturday :biggrin1: Loves ya all! Sara xx P.S I cant think of a name for us, I just keeping well April is in spring, newness etc new beginings etc....and I cant think! lol, I'll just go along with you all re the name x -

Dear All, Terry....:sick Hungover????? I had the hangover from HELL today!! I had to take meds twice, Oooooooo why did I drink so much last night??? I said to Dave, was I ok? He said yes, just drunk Sara...Im so embarrased! Trouble is, with not eating properly and not drinking, (and it was the red wine that went down with Noooooooo problem unike the food!) it doesnt take much to get pickled..... Pam, your food choice sounded good too, I found eating salmon with a lot of sauce was ok. Tracy, so were all the tests ok that you had? Sorry to hear about the e-mail incident re your mum.... Laura, Jennifur hopefully the burping situation will ease, mind you, when you do start to eat mushies in time, it can happen then, I went out for lunch today (it was my last day at ne of the places Im seconded into) & I had a baked potatoe & cheese & beans, so I mashed the potatoe up, had the melted cheese on it which had solidified, and I found it hard to eat (I know it was the cheese) and I ended up burping a lot (quietly) I guess its trial and error.... Dave tok me to an italian resteraunt, and I thought I like two courses..so I ordered pasta carbanara, then 2nd course a slice of salmon with fries...and red wine (& dave drove) .... Ok, I have NO restriction....I started eating the patsa cabonara....3 mouthfulfuls later...Im choking,...I cant eat it...so I give my starter to Dave....and drink water and red wine (thank god I can drink red wine) the second course arrives...I have a slice of salmon and watercress sause...& chipss ( was desperate to taste a chip again).....4 chips later and half of a slice of salmon (were talking tiny guys) I am stuffed..even Dave cant eat my salmon as Ive over killed him on my left over salmon & chips....OMG I cant eat???????? but blow me down I can drink, but I cant hold it............ Folks,, this band is a mirical cure???????? I could drink like afish (& I cant now) and eat like nobody, & I dont have a restriction.........good lordy, why didnt I do this sooner??????????? Yours in amazement! Sara xxxxxx -

Hi All :biggrin1: Tracy thanks for cropping my pic too, I think you and Terry should be the editors on here, cos anything IT wise and Im baffled! Your son looks a real cutie Tracy, hes adoreable! Terry cool pic of that longhorn mascot, our cows over here have little small horns, but I think the farmers must do something to them, as you never see cows here with long horns except the Highland Scotish ones that have long fluffy coats. has anyone heard from Lunasa? LUNASA where are you? Are you ok? maybe shes still in England for a few days, I hope shes ok. Congrats to all of you that have ben banded this week!! :clap2: Hey mazie, good to hear from you, yep I certainly did get something stuck, it was rice (and I dont want to repeat that again! it is painful, and I remember thinking I was gonna choke, I tried drinking water to wash it away, but it just made it worse!) Ive been sticking to mushie food, Ive put 2lbs back on (but its the wrong time of the month if you know what I mean) Ive got another 2 weeks of mushie food, then I start the hard stuff...LOL doesnt that sound funny! Actually Im a bit apprihensive about eating harder food again, after the experience with the rice and you with the brocohli, I think we'll both be nibbling our food like a rabbit! Its mine n Daves 21st wedding anniversary today ...... I got him a card and a bttle of Balviney (single scotish malt) and he'd raded the card box and pull out a blank card with a heart on it, he said last night, Sara I have a confession when he saw Id bought hi something...I said I dont want to hear it!! So just maybe...I might get some flowers tonight?????? Heres hoping for something? LOL take care all xx Sara xx -
