Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Sara Mos replied to TracyinKS's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Tracy, Can I join this group too! I'm so pleased you set up an April 07 group, I've just been looking at the February group to see how everyones doing....but now Ive just seen Boo's message and I'll definately check out how the April 06 are doing....just think that will be like us this time next year, oo how exciting!! -
Hi All, I went to see my GP today (local Dr surgery) my hubby insisted I checked with them that they would support me after (on top of the bariatric surgery support) I was amazed quite frankly, my GP was in all favor, and asked me how I managed it as she had a patient that she was desperate to get help for, I explained I was self paying, it turns out that the county I live in will not pay for this type of surgery, and yet in other areas they do, bit of a post code lottery here. I asked her for pills to give up smoking and support, as I am ready to give up, and a little worried about the anasthetic, she suggested I cut down, but did the treatment after the surgery after a couple of weeks after the op, shes probably right, as she said its too much to try and do it 'all' and have problems. I am amazed at the support for the lap band surgery I have got, and the consultant sent a two page letter to my GP practice explaining about the surgery...wow...

Hugs Wilma, You'll get through this difficult time, its hard letting your kids go (even though they never actually go, but move on) Dont let this difficult time stop you moving forward, to be the person you want to be and look like, belive in yourself, we all belive in you, youve taken a massive step...keep going...

Hi All I'm pleased your first day went ok for you Tammy, TracyinKs if you drink 2 glasses of water before you eat, it should help take off the curb a bit, but its horrible feeling straving. The last diet I did properly was the Lighter Life one (just fluids:shakes/Soups and bars) I managed it for 5 weeks, then caved in as I could'nt cope. I know after surgery we have to follow just a fluid diet for 5-6 weeks, but at least we know we can eat again. One friend of mine did the Lighter Life diet for 7 months, and she was not very well at the end of it and got quite ill.... Things are tough at work for me at the moment, emotionally its so easy to cave in and just eat junk I'll try not too. Take care

Hi Rosi Congratulations on getting your date!! This site is is great, I only discovered it this month too, and everyone is so friendly. I have 2 daughters too, 17 and 20...the youngest one said she'd look after me after the opp (as my hubby will be at work)....I did say to her she didnt have to cook..only make cups of tea!!

Hi Everyone! hows everyones week been? Well started my diet last Sunday, 2 nights I kind of blew it, I had red wine...one night I was stressed, and another night I was celebrating getting some good news (work related) so ummm not really sure on weight loss. Although I saw the surgeon last saturday, Ive not had a letter back or anything? I'll have to phone the hospital on Monday I think and find out whats happening, because apart from knowing my surgery is the 1st week of April, I dont have an actually day . So hows everynes diets going? Hey, Ive decided to take up gardening again, might actually get me exercising again! Have a great week! Sara x

Hi All! I went to see the consultant today, he said that I am suitable for surgery, and that it will be booked in for the 1st week of April (he said he was away for the last week of March, when I suggested a date in March). I asked how many ops he'd done, the success rate, complications etc. He went through both op types (banding & gastric bypass) I listened to both, but have opted for the banding one. My BMI is 41 and my weight is 245 the dietitian did fat monitoring and muscle monitoring too, and my muscle one is only 40 odd which should be 70 od, so that is why my metabolic rate isnt that high, she worked out alsorts of figures, but I ended up getting a bit lost. I have to do a weight loss diet for a month (its a cardiac one) Im not allowed to follow any 'diets i.e. SB: Slimfast etc I have to follow a low fat, portion controlled regime. After surgery she said Im on liquids/pured soup etcfor 6 weeks then I get my first band fill. Was at the hospital for nearly 2 hrs this am...Ive now got to wait for my letter from the hospital, sort out the payment. He said I cant drive for the first week after and I cant go back to work until 2 weeks after the op. So it's looking like easter week (7 weeks away!) The count down begins!! I think I need one of those weight loss ladders like you have all got (tricker factory thing)...... YeeeeeeeHaaaaaaaaaaa!! Sara x

Congratulations to Tracy and Mrs Husker!! I am so excited, I go and see the consultant tomorrow at 10.15 for my first visit, I spoke to my mum and Dad today and said that I should get a rough idea of when my op will be, my mum had'nt told my dad, and he was a bit shocked though... Anyway Im organising a special trip out with them to a nice resturant with my hubby and girls in a month or so, I cant seem to stop thinking about food at the moment, and realising that I wont be able to eat a lot of foods again!! Keep smiling Sara x

Thanks Tracy and Tammy for your warm welcome to the March group. There's so much to read on the lapbandtalk.com. The more I read the more I'm a bit confused! Can you tell me about the liquid diet you have to go on prior to surgery, my surgery will be with the BMI health group (Private hsp group in the uk not the NHS) and all of the information they sent didnt say about a liquid diet until after surgery (4 weeks liquid, then pureed food for a further 2 weeks). Very few people in the UK can get this surgery on the NHS, although they have brought out new clinical guidelines to say that it should be. It's always about money I guess, I know I could get it cheaper in Belguim, but I need close support and monitoring after, and peace of mind. I am a bit scared of having surgery, but I know that if I carry on yo-yo dieting I'll be bigger than ever, every time I diet I lose the weight, and then put it back on again and more besides. My weight has crept up to an increadible high of 18 stone (I'm 5ft 4" tall), I get sleep apnoea now, and I find it difficult to carry out day to day activities...sorry I'll stop moaning; but I will be so relieved to finally get help, I know it will take me a long time to get to my ideal weight for my height. I do have support from my family though, and my hubby is going to support me through all of this, and I'm so glad I found this support group too. I'm so excited about next Saturday, having the first medical assessment, I'll write back and let you know what they say. Sara x P.S Keep staying positive

Hi All, After reading some of the replys on this site, I thought Id join. I'm seeing a consultant on Feb 10th. I've been overweight for many years, Im hoping to have the surgery either the end of March or the 1st week of April. This week I also had some hypnotherapy to stop smoking (that was on Wed evening) so that I am not an anathestic risk. Lap band surgery is expensive here in the UK, but I feel it will be worth every penny if it will help me in the long term. I hope I can join your March Bandsters group (but it may be happening in April for me) I'll find out next Saturday after seeing the clinical consultant and the dietician. Hope to speak to you all soon, Sara x
