  1. Kacee, I am so sorry you are not feeling well...... Are you taking acid reducer pills? Nexium, prevacid, something like that. I find that most of the time what I think is hunger pains is actually acid....I take a Prevacid at night...and it has helped with the hunger thing... I also can drink water/shakes/etc and not feel restriction...or full....once you start eating solid or soft foods you will find you will get full...you will know when you eat too much....or at least that's the way it is for me....I have never thrown up due to over eating, but have eaten that one extra bite that makes it so super uncomfortable.... I hope you feel better soon.....

    Where do I start?

Have you thought of going to Mexico. Dr. Aceves has a great reputation and is in Mexicali, I think that is about 3 hours driving time south of Phoenix.....I think he has a few finance companies that he works with. Just an idea....
  3. you should be good to go at 6 weeks......you'll probably be on soft foods and a bunch of pounds thinner.....you'll be high on life and happy you gave yourself an early Christmas present.

    Cauliflower Pizza and Pizza Crackers

since I used a package of frozen cauliflower, I used 1/2 for the pizza...and today I used the other 1/2 today to make fake fried rice. I stirfried the riced cauliflower, a couple of slices of onion and chopped garlic, added 5 med shrimp, cooked...added 1 tsp each of soy sauce, sesame oil and fried rice seasoning....stirred topped with 1/4 of bean sprouts....and voila....sooooo good.....

    "Chocolate Milk"

Have you tried Hood Calorie/Carb countdown chocolate milk? I think that 8oz is 90 calories and 5 gr of carbs.... http://www.hood.com/Products/prodDetail.aspx?id=645&lb=851 I use the regular 2% usually....sometimes the fat free (only 45 calories)....it is so good and creamy

Dr. Watkins - diet after surgery

Remember that though you didn't have your stomach cut, it is reduced in size and it has gone through trauma. Eat slow, and small bites..maybe try something that isn't that heavy or carb loaded. Ricotta Bake? Refried Beans, Lentils, chicken salad, tuna salad. eggs, potato, Pasta, marinara sauce...were all very hard for me to do for the first 2 months.... We will get sick if we eat too much, we have a sleeve....and if we eat too much and too fast, your spit will back up and you will slime.....
  8. I eat about 4oz of meat (chicken, beef, etc) sometimes I add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of starch or veg. Or I'll have a low carb tortilal. My meals are usually around 250-300 calories....I eat a few more carbs than most, but my body feels better on them, I also work out a ton, so it gives me a little kick of energy....If I BBQ I'll have 1 hamburger patty or 1 sausage (brat) or 1 chicken kebab....so all pretty normal foods....
  9. Sarah!that is awesome! you are in onederland.....yay!

    dillemma

hey globetrotter.... I have been trying to find a cycle or rhythm to my weight loss. I eat around 800 calories a day on average. In the last few weeks I have found out that if I eat less and work out more around 600-700 calories and workout hard, I lose very little....the weeks I "slack" eating closer to 900 or even 1000 calories and still working out hard, I tend to lose more. So I wonder if it has to do with our body's slow metabolic slow down when our intake is too low for our activity level? Lately I've been eating to feel good, so on days I will only eat 600 calories and days will eat 1000. It's strange for sure.... I'll be curious to see what others post here..... Goood luck...
  11. It has been weird for me...there are weeks where I eat around 800 calories and weeks where I eat around 1000 calories. I work out everyday for at least an hour if not 2 cardio and strength. The weeks I eat more and work out less 1 hour instead of 2 a day, I seem to lose more....I am trying to track and see if I can find a simple pattern....but unfortunately....just when I think I have it figured out, something changes and my weight loss rate changes.... I figure it is one day at a time and one week at a time....I eat to get satisfied, if I am a little extra hungry I have some handy 50-80 calorie snack type Protein stuff (egg bites, some protein squares, laughing cow wedge) if I am off on protein I supplement with a Protein shake..... I just make sure I log my food....I have totally become a food snob, I pick what I want to eat and choose carefully....a few weekends ago I really wanted doritos and bean dip...and I had some....maybe a handfull of doritos, got it out of my system and moved on.....
  12. Amy what app are you using to scan barcodes....I would really love to have that as an added benefit!
  13. So...got on the scale this morning and I'm down 4.5lbs....I broke 40....I am so excited...I hit 43.2 lbs today lost and gone!!!!! I am finally in the 250's (ok. 259.9) but still....especially since my "stall" or .4 gain from last week..... woooooo hooooo
  14. I am scheduled for VSG on the 14th, but now I wonder if I shouldn't look into plication? Anyone have any experience? I think it's just pre surgery jitters, but then again, if this proceedure is less invasive should it be something to look into? I just ran accross this: The Latest Innovation in Weight Loss Surgery Hospital Angeles Tijuana is proud to announce that it is home to the newest advancement in weight loss surgery-Gastric Sleeve Plication. The procedure is currently performed in limited clinical trial in the United States, and at Hospital Angeles Tijuana, where gastroenterologist surgeon Dr. Lopez Corvala proctors (trains) US surgeons in the plication suturing technique that many bariatric surgeons are calling the most exciting advancement in weight loss surgery since adjustable gastric banding. Early patient data demonstrate weight loss results similar to gastric bypass with no reports of complications. The procedure, best understood as an evolution of the more familiar sleeve gastrectomy surgery, offers weight loss surgery patients a number of very critical benefits: A less invasive evolution of the gastric sleeve procedure, plication is an ambulatory procedure ? no surgical drains, only 2 nights total hospital stay! No loss of stomach tissue - the 'sleeve' is created by suturing rather than removal (preserving nutrient absorption capability) No devices - no staples, no bands, no fills Reduced risk of early or late complications No complication from leaks or bleeding at the staple line (as compared to gastric sleeve) Does not impair patient dietary habits Early data (patients at 6-12 months post procedure) indicate resultant weight loss is comparable to gastric bypass

Also try meatballs, they have those adeill's meatballs at costco. Someone just posted a pizza made with cauliflower for the crust. I'm going to try that tomorrow. The ricotta bake for me has been a life saver. I have made it all sorts of different flavors, make it sort of like a shepherd's pie or an italian pie, or a taco pie. Brown ground beef and season with whtever you like to make it taste like real food, cover with the ricotta bake topping....all in a lasagna pan, bake and it is sooo good...the italian one for me was like eating lasagna. I loved sliced deli meat wrapped around a laughing cow wedge....roast beef around blue cheese, chicken or turkey around the garlic spiced one....

    Cauliflower Pizza and Pizza Crackers

I am so buying cauliflower tomorrow....I want to make the pizza. I saw a fried rice recipe....I'll have to dig for it somewhere but will post tomorrow......yumyumyum
  17. Wow!! I am so scared for you and for her. I am so sorry she has gone through all of this. I will keep her as well as you in her prayers. Please keep us posted on her progress as she comes through this.
  18. I think Dr. Watkins talked about it. But they have been doing this kind of surgery on the stomach for years, just for other stuff like GERD....the fundoplication (I think it's called), so though we are guinea pigs for this as a weight loss tool, I think we're ok in terms of stitches and and them not slicing into the stomach tissue. I would imagine that after a year or 2 with overeating, our sleeves will stretch, but the tissue is still alive and has blood flow, so if we want it reversed it can be (though I'm sure there will be some scar tissue) but can be undone. Try doing search for Dr. Watkins and read some of his threads....I think he may address some of this. Also ask Dr. Corvala...when you are down there, he is willing to take all the time to answer all of the questions you may have. I didn't think about that question or I would have asked...LOL.... good luck!

    The New VST

I hate it!!!! I liked the old site, why fix what isn't broken. This one not only the colors are off, they are harder to read on the screen, the ads are taking over. Can we please go back to what we had before?????

    Pork Barbacoa (Like Chipolte)

you can use chicken or pork. I've even used beef. You can skip the chipotle chile all together or just use a few. These are SPICY! so beware....we're lucky we really love spicy food here at home, so this is a weekly recipe for us. My hubby eats them with traditional tortilla wraps and I use the low cal/low carb kind (50 calories each)....I can have a taco and about 1.5-2oz of meat mixture.....and I am stuffed....

    Stall??'s

Maddie, Thanks for the info....I'm going to quote you in my blog.....best explanation I've ever had! Thanks....
  22. lguidry.....I'll be thinking about you tomorrow....let us know how it goes....
  23. Sarah, try a website to log your food or your phone. I really like MyPlate - Food Diary & Food Calorie Counter | LIVESTRONG.COM but I know others that really like using All Things Food and Diet - FatSecret I track what I eat. I also find that on weeks when I work out really hard, and don't eat a little more, I lose less than not....I'm trying to find a trend somewhere.....I am a numbers geek.... My downfall is that my hubby is also dieting (he's down 34lbs in the same amount of time)....Men! they lose weight so much faster.... we'll get there....with bypass and traditional sleeve there are also stalls and slower weeks.....so it's all so individual, that it probably isn't good to compare yourself to others, but I know at least for me, it's hard not to..... On the negative side and in terms of calorie intake, I discovered that vodka and crystal light make a really good drink....I'm not a huge drinker, but on social weekends it is hard to not have 1 or 2.....so, oh! well...I guess it's better than a sugar filled margarita....but still!!!!!
  24. lguidry, keep us posted...and best of luck.....the first night and the first few days are tough but doable...at least for me me..... let's keep in touch and compare diets, etc.....
  25. Last week I lost zip, nothing, nada....but then I haven't stalled like alot of others before this. I've lost 38lbs in 11 weeks...that is huge, our bodies have to get used to losing, and they will hold on to fat for dear life! This week I'm going to keep doing what I am doing, logging my food, counting calories, protein first, etc. I'm sure the scale will move again.....just have to be mindful......
