Hang in there. I know the wait is frustrating. I had a similar problem with the insurance coordinator. She is basically the gate keeper and refused to return my calls. So, I started emailing and calling every.single.day. I was never mean or anything, always nice and chipper. I honestly think she got sick of my sweet as sugar messages that kindly reminded her that it was my 5th or whatever call. LOL Hang in there!!

Having A Hard Time With The Words "pureed Food"... Ick!
BKMama replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hear you. We were talking about this in my last class and I just can't even think of eating pureed food or baby food. One of the guys in the class said "ooohhhh what about pureed pulled pork?!" I almost gagged right there on the table. ICK!! For that stage, my plan is to do blended and strained Soups, hot cereals (which don't need to be blended according to my NUT and NP), and things like that. Oh and of course, the Protein shake (I'm one of the weirdos that like them). I'm big on texture and the wrong texture will make me gag so I know that it's not worth it for me to even go there with the pureed meat or baby food. LOL -
I just had my final pre-op class and this came up. As with many things post-op, each person will differ. She said try a straw, if it makes you have excess gas then don't use it. Simple.

So cool. Thanks for sharing!! I cannot WAIT until I can go on bike rides next spring. I'm so uncomfortable and self conscious now that I can't get into a rhythm, but bike riding be on my list of top 5 ways to get/stay fit post-op. I already told my teenager that I'm taking the brand new bike that's in our shed that she's ridden like twice. Though, I'd love one of those cool looking cruiser bikes. LOL

The process was longer than I expected (started everything in November) but I am so happy now to finally have a date to look forward to. My surgeon is typically booked out for 6-8 weeks and is going on vacation for a good chunk of September. So, I'm glad I squeaked in. I have a 10 day pre-op diet that actually isn't too bad - one meal with no carbs then Protein shakes for 2 meals. It'll start right after my hubby's bday, so that works out perfectly. We may even roll our anniversary into the celebration because I'll be 2 weeks post-op for that. September 5th is a Wednesday, I'll be in the hospital probably until Saturday morning (or at least until Friday night). I plan to take that next Monday - Wednesday off from work then my manager is letting me work from home for a week (so Thursday - Wednesday). That might actually work out as I'll be back for 2 days then have another weekend to rest. Anyone want to be buddies?

I don't know how I missed this thread. My date is September 5th! I start my pre-op diet 8/25. Hi and good luck to everyone!!!

Insurance Says They Received Nothing From Surgeon
BKMama replied to polandspring's topic in Insurance & Financing
How was it submitted? Some fax but others mail the packet (which is crazy to me). I echo the call, call, call. Even once it is submitted, if they need additional info it will take 5-7 business days for the letter they send requesting that info to get to you and the surgeon....but they'll tell you if you call. -
I am on Facebook but probably won't share a ton there. FB is a place for my randomness. LOL

Sleep Apnea...question
BKMama replied to scaredoftheunknown's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto. I downright refused to use the stupid thing because it was uncomfortable at first. Now, it isn't pleasant, but I definitely wake up refreshed - which hadn't happened in a very long time. I was tired all.the.time. I have to use the machine before surgery and take it to the hospital with me as well. -

when you carry you weight around the middle. think of how an apple is shaped versus a pear or a coke bottle
-
I have been wanting to ask this question. I am an apple that suffers from no-ass-at-all syndrome. I've always said that it is so ridiculous for me to be this big and not have big boobs or a nice booty. Anyway, I am hoping and praying that exercise will help me sculpt a new shaped body. I would LOVE to finally be curvy. My trainer has told me that for burning belly fat especially, it will be very important to do cardio, in that critical fat burning zone, for as long as possible. I tend to stay in cardio zone, so I need to work on this.

I want to pull the trigger on a machine for home and it's between this and an elliptical. Any reviews from the losers bench?

I'm using skim. The protein is horrid in water to me.

Weight Watcher's Smart Ones Or Lean Cuisine A Good Idea?
BKMama replied to Avealina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was going to say the same thing, those things become so redundant and bland after a while. I'm checking down Lean Cuisines now trying to lose more before surgery. LOLSince you eat such a small amount preparing and freezing will so much easier. :-) -
Happy Birthday!! What is a healing ridge?
-
I'm in! it would depend when since I'm scheduled for surgery the 1st week of September.
-
I am pre-op but this was on my list of questions for my surgeon. He does both. The drain comes out before going home from the hospital and the catheter comes out the day after surgery (they do a 2 day stay at the hospital). I am not happy about the catheter at all as I had bad experiences with then with two childbirths. I was hoping it was placed and removed while I was under anesthesia.

I hope you're feeling better. Codeine is not my friend either. I don't know how people get hooked to that stuff, it made me so, so ill.

No Regrets, But I Broke Down And Cried Today

Sending virtual hugs your way. I hope tomorrow is a better day for you!! -
WW is a great program, it was the most successful weight loss attempt I had. I thought about joining at some point post-op but for now have decided against it. It would definitely be great for accountability while losing, but I think it would be awkward to be losing all of the weight from having the sleeve...you'd either have to tell everyone you had WLS (and have them wondering why in the world you're at WW if you can't really follow the program) or not tell them and risk alienating others in the group that aren't (and can't) lose the weight as quickly. I am not explaining it perfectly, but I just remember my specific group really bonded with each other and our leader, so I would personally feel bad for having an unfair advantage over them. It's human nature to compare, you know? For those at or near goal, I think it's a great idea! :-) (you wouldn't be losing at the fast pace like when you're a new sleever)
