  1. I had a pos on my serum H-Pylori, damn. Dr. wanted to do an endo to take a look and a bx. to send in. I found out that a lot of people have a serum pos. espically in the medical field and I am a nurse. Since I am self pay, did not really want this procedure so we did a blow up the bag and then the air is tested. It seems once you contract this your blood will always be pos., but if it is inactive then a air bag test comes in neg. So if any of you want to save the cost of an endo on the H-Pylori, see if you can get the bag test instead. So now I am all set. I guess maybe with me being a nurse and this being a small hospital and my husband being a physician, I did not have to go thru a lot of the pre-op stuff that a lot of you did. One meeting with surgeon, one with dietician, one more with surgeon to sign consent and get pre-op diet.

    General anesthesia issues

[quote name=Lisa ' timestamp='1317612382' post='214606] Thanks guys!!! I feel better about it now!! I am an OR nurse and it is just about routine now for all general patients to get Zofran inter operative and just about 100% stops any nausea, just mention to you gas person and see if they do this, I bet they do...
  3. I suggest not a whole lot of your own nightwear for a couple reasons. They will get stained probably. Wear the hosp. gowns, they are usually quite thick and you can change them as many times as you want to feel fresh. Another must is your bed pillow from home..hosp. pillows are terrible, you will rest much better. Also ask for the gown bottoms and you are all set.

    swallowing ouchies

This could very well be an irritation from the breathing tube that was used during surgery and if so, it will go away..

FLMA or Leave of Absence question?

Main thing if you are using Family Leave is to be sure you are covered, if I am not mistaken, you have to employed for a year.

    medicare

Sorry to have to tell you this but Medicare is Federal and rules apply to every state. I too found out Medicare does not pay as I am 65. Luckily for me my husband is a physician and his hospital gives 50% discounts to docs and family for non covered procedures.

    Nickel allergy and surgical staples

I am a surgery nurse who also has serious nickel allergies. I myself have had staples with no problems and have never seen an issue with staples, you should be fine.
