  1. Thank you. i am definately learning a lot here. i am super excited to get this done but i keep telling myself to just be prepared for ANYTHING because until the insurance company says yes, everything is up in the air. wow Dec 1st, are you excited? when did you start your process?

  2. Lady Lap and Victoria thank you both so much, you guys are great and i am glad i have you to ask questions and get answers from. i hope im not too much of a PITA, lol! so tommorrow i meet with my surgeon and at our original meeting last month he tried to sell me on the sleeve and thats all he talked about. i checked into it and that is just not for me and i will put that out there immediately. if things dont go well from there then i will definately check out the dr you recommended Victoria. my surgeon mentioned we could do the surgery in january but he didnt give me a date. i noticed a lot of people have their dates already. did you both find out your dates early on or later? i met with a surgeon a few years back and at our very first meeting he scheduled my surgery. so i am excited about getting a surgery date and nervous about the UGI visit.
  3. OMG! I am so happy you replied to my post. i just got on to the realize band posting to see if i could get some info and here you are a person that actually has the realize. so there isnt much difference you say? i was reading about the differences and it seemed like the only real difference is the port being supported by staples with the lapband and stapleless with the realize. and the port with the realize blends with the skin even as you take the weight off, however havent read about anyone with the lapband having a problem with the port being detectable after weight loss.
  4. Thanks for the info i did seethem but i decided to go with someone closer to where i live. hopefully all turns out well. i meet with my doctor tomorrow, but now i am wondering if maybe i want to look deeper into the Realize band. ugggh so many choices!!!!

  7. welcome Missy, im from central jersey and i am in the early stages of my journey. i dont even have a date yet, all i know is January 2012. im excited and nervous because i am scared about keeping the weight off. i read that people are still hungry and i worried about what am i going to do when that happenes, but i have to stay committed because i know where i will end up if i dont. there is no second chance if i dont stick to this. best of luck on your surgery and just keep in touch with people you meet here or stay talking to the people here. i have found this site to be great for information and words of encouragement.
  8. 10. I have been using a CPAP since 2005 and it was the greatest thing I have ever done. I have snored all my life, so as a kid I never wanted to do sleep overs and even as an adult it would be murder sometimes, just starting out dating someone and that first snore that shakes the entire building (lol). At fisrt I was very nervous about the machine, i was like oh great i look like a damn space invader, this is NOT sexy and my girlfriend is going to leave me for sure. But she was very cool and she did crack a few jokes but she was supportive and understood why I needed it. she was just as concerned as I was. My apnea had gotten so bad to where my throat hurt every morning, I was tired all the time, and I literally felt like I was suffocating in my sleep because you stop breathing and then you start again...but sometimes people dont and die. When i first got it I had the mask that covered my nose and mouth and it was great but then I started getting a dark mark across the bridge of my nose and it took months to go away. i then switched to the nasal mask where it just goes into your nostrols and that was perfect, it felt less invasive. eventually i got the new model and i am back with the mask that just goes over the nose and i have a LOT of pressure. It is always a litle uncomfortable when you meet someone and you sleep with them and you have to tell them about the mask of they see it before yu get to tell them about it, but most peopel have been fine with it, so it hasnt been a big issue. im married now and my wife is extremely happy that i have the mask otherwise we couldnt sleep togther. i do get embarassed when my step kids come in the room and im sleep and have it on. i put the covers over my head or ifmy wife is up and im sleeping i will put the covers over my head so i dont feel like she is staring at me. but dont read too much into it. everyone will get used to it and it will just become second nature. hell at this point i cant sleep without it.

I really love this posting, I read another one about Aetna here and it kind of brought me down. A lot of problems with the 2 yr weight loss history. Have any of you had that problem. I am a little concernd because I havent been with my PCP for 2 years and we never really dicussed weight loss. Everything I've done, was done on my own. But you guys keep me smiling and thinking positive

    how do u deside

Wow I am in the same spot you are in Brittney. I met my surgeon for the first time a month ago and went in gung ho that I wanted the band, then he started trying to sell me on the sleeve. This kinda pissed me off because he didnt go over anything about the band. He just kept selling the sleeve and saying how quick I would loose weight and with the band I would get acid reflux from throwing up etc. In the end I went home and read up on the sleeve. I read and I dont know how true this is that the sleeve is for really heavy people and it gets them down to a size where they can then get gastric or lap band. I thought to myself, but I am not that big that I would need to do this. Further more I read about the cutting and the stapling and I just wasnt comfortable with that at all. I have my next appointment next week and I am sticking to my choice of the lap band. If my doctor is still pushing the sleeve well i will just have to find a new surgeon. Just make sure you do the research and ultimately go with what feels right and you think is best for YOU. Good luck!

OMG! I have Aetna and I had my first visit to the surgeon like 2 weeks ago. While I wasnt happy with the meeting if I do decide to go with him, he did say he could do my surgery by Jan 2012. hearing how quickly you all got approved adds up with the timeline he gave so i feel better. Good luck all!
