I am 7 days post op now & got a phone call from my surgeons office today saying I should contact my pcp to let him know. Has anyone had any experience with this? The tech that called didn't know when or how they found this out. All I know so far is I remember they came every 2hours the night of my surgery to draw blood. I remember 3-4 draws between midnight & 4:00 or 5:00.

Sleeved 9/24 Going Thru It What Did I Do (Regrets)
vf59 replied to sexy_sleevegirl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hang in there. I was sleeved on Oct. 20 2011 and have lost 100lbs. I was wearing size 20 and stretching those and weighed 260. Now I wear size 8-10 and weigh 160. First time in our marriage that I have weighed less than my husband. I love the way I look in the mirror now but still feel like I am the same size until someone stops me at work and comments on how great I look. Physically I feel GREAT. Nothing hurts anymore. Little things like being able to cross my legs now when I sit down feels good. I feel sick when I look back at pictures of me in the past and see how fat I looked. I just didn't realize how I looked and how it affected how I lived and worked. I feel so much younger now. I'm 53 but was feeling much older when I was heavy. What I found easiest to use is Total Lean Meal Replacement shakes from GNC. They come in bottles ready to drink so no mixing. Tastes like chocolate milk to me. I also like their unflavored Protein powder that I add to yogurt for a snack and to my luxury item (mocha frappe's from McDonalds). I also eat the weight watcher (Smart Ones) frozen meals for lunch and then some kind of meat for dinner. I take my multi Vitamin, vit. D, B complex, vit. B12 daily. I try to drink 1-2 of the shakes per day and I also fill in when hungry with South Beach Meal Bars or Snacks. You will eventually get to the point where you can have a bite or two of what you used to love along with the above and be satisfied. Be strong and have patience. It will get better and before long you will be where you want to be. -

Liver issues after surgery anyone??
vf59 replied to decamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
May 20th will be 7 months since my vsg & down 92lbs. Started at 260. If they do an ERCP they'll probably find stones. After having my gallbladder removed, I still had problems so they did that test & found stones. After that removed & after this weight loss my liver numbers are great now. -
June of last year I weighed 260 lbs & was stretching size 20 jeans. Last weekend I went shopping for some new jeans & took several pairs of size 16 into the dressing room. They were too big!!! I now wear size 14 and weigh 192. My surgery was Oct. 20th, 2011. LOVING IT!!!

How Do You Guys Get All Your Meals In?
vf59 replied to TexasTina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eat your snacks/meals every 2 hours. I noticed you are eating 3 hours apart or longer. My surgery was oct 20th & I still have trouble getting in 70 grams of protein in a day. I'm drinking more shakes than eating food. If I can't eat solid food for some reason, I'll drink some of my shake or eat an Adkins or special K meal replacement bar. I keep getting told not to worry, that I'll eventually be able to eat more. But my PA stresses getting in all the protein somehow so thats what i concentrate on doing. -

She might be able to deny your leave based on it being elective surgery. Make sure she understands that by using the holidays, you will be minimizing your lost time. -
I also had surgery same day as you & at central baptist. I couldn't stand those shots they gave us in the hosp. I'd like to know about the sunkist also because I still have trouble getting in enough protein. How's your weight loss going? I'm down 30 since surgery. 50 total since I started process in June. Feeling great.

Should be close to 2 weeks out. You'll have to be on a preop diet for 2 weeks in order to shrink the size of your liver. Mine consisted of 2 meal replacement shakes per day and 1 regular meal of meat and all the green leafy vegetables you want. -

The 1st Day Of My Gastric Sleeve Surgery Journey
vf59 replied to GetInMyBelly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
What Protein shakes are you using? I use total lean ready to drink from GNC. Each shake has 170 calories, 6 carbs, 25 grams protein & lactose free. I could only get about 30 grams the first week. I am 19 days postop and still have hard time getting 70grams. I try to drink half a shake for Breakfast, the other half 2 hours later for break, half again for lunch, last half for 2nd break. That alone will get me 50 grams. Then there is dinner and snack later. Since they are lactose free, I don't get the gas problem. -
Thanks for your answer. I guess that is what happened and all the blood tests during the night must have been to check on that and that's how they found the allergy? I read online that an allergic response could be that instead of stopping clotting, the reverse happens. I have asked the surgeons office to fax the report to my PCP.

Liver issues after surgery anyone??
vf59 replied to decamom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had elevated liver enzymes for the past 3 years. I was on prednisone for a whole year which brought my numbers to normal. They started going back up. I was sleeved 6 days ago and my surgeon didn't seem concerned although he did do a biopsy while in there. I had another biopsy before which only showed elevated iron. They finally decided that i have fatty liver but during surgery the doc said my liver looked beautiful so no fatty liver. Just had a new blood test today to chexk lipid panel. Curious to see if they are still elevated. -
I also had a hiatal hernia repair at the same time as my surgery (3:00pm 10/20) and cannot drink enough protein. I feel full and am afraid to force too much in. Does anyone else have this problem & is this normal? The shakes i have are 27 grams protein, 170 calories & lactose free, 14 oz. How many ounces should i be drinking this soon after surgery?

The 1st Day Of My Gastric Sleeve Surgery Journey
vf59 replied to GetInMyBelly's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Go to a GNC store and ask them to let you sample their meal replacement shakes. They are ready to drink. No mixing. I buy the swiss chocolate and I think it tastes just like chocolate milk. It is lactose free if you have problems drinking milk, you want to mKe sure you are getting in alot of protein without alot of carbs. This will help with fullness & hunger not to mention weightloss. Good luck & don't buy quantity until you taste it first. -
2 days on pre-op diet STARVING
vf59 replied to kim219's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You need "meal replacement " shakes with the most Protein, least carbs & you shouldn't get too hungry. Chew gum. My surgeon office also said if hungry I can have another shake. -
2 days on pre-op diet STARVING
vf59 replied to kim219's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Slim fast doesn't have enough protein & has way too many carbs. More protein & less carbs will keep u from getting hungry & will loose more fat. Also need to take vitamins. You need to get a list from your surgeon of what vitamins he wants u to be on. -

vf59 replied to kim219's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What are you drinking for your meal replacement shakes & are you taking your vitamins? I use Celebrate vitamins (designed for gastric surgery patients) & drinking Total Lean ready to drink shakes from GNC store. I don't usually get hungry but, if I do, they said I could have another shake (i usually drink half of one if hungry). I do 2 shakes per day & one meal (grilled or baked meat & all the green leafy vegetables I want. -

How do feel about the lapband now that you have had yours removed?
vf59 replied to Becca's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
When I told my Primary Care Physician that I was thinking about wls, he was all for it but did not recommend the band. He had previously worked with a bariatric clinic as their referral doc for their patients. So he had alot experience with the procedures and complications. I still thought about getting the band, but when I attended a seminar & learned about the sleeve, that's what I decided to do. My surgery is scheduled for Oct. 20. I am a 52 year old female, 5 foot 6 inches now (used to be 5' 7"), worked in automotive factory for 23 years, and had just reached 260lbs when I started the process.
