    A Tiny Step...

Ditto what everyone else said! I think it is the pictures that keep everyone motivated and excited. I know they do me and my husband! By the way, you were perhaps one of the CUTEST babies I have ever laid eyes on! Tami

    medical alert bracelet

I have a good friend who is banded (as well as hubby being banded in a couple of weeks) and she always wears a medical alert bracelet. If I was banded, I would for sure wear one all of the time. If I was to get into a car accident, for example, and was rushed to the hospital unconscious, I would want the medical personnel to know that I was banded. I will definetely ask my husband to wear one after he gets his band on November 21st. Tami

    A Matter of Perspective

My husband gets banded later this month. I hope he does as well as you! You look absolutely fabulous. And let me congratulate you on the 50 lb mark. You are an inspiration to us and everyone else on the board. Tami H.

    Dr. Li in Burlingame, CA???

Yes, we are from the north bay - Santa Rosa. Thankfully, HealthNet is picking up the tab for the surgery. That is good that you had a good experience with that office!
  5. Anyone have any experience with Dr. Li in Burlingame, CA? My husband will be banded in November. I would love to hear of any experiences good or bad. Good luck to everyone in reaching your goals!

    Doc Consult Yesterday!

My husband and I went down to Burlingame, CA yesterday (about 65 miles from our home in Santa Rosa, CA) and met with Dr. Li for his initial consult. My hubby has been going back and forth between rny and lapband for a couple of months. Dr. Li laid all of the info out on both operations. I was sure Andrew (my husband) was going to choose the rny, but after a day to think everything over, he just called to tell me he has chosen to go the lapband route. I am so pleased. He knew I would support him either way, but deep-down I really wanted him to get the band. We have a friend who got a band a couple of years ago and has done a fantastic job of both losing the weight and keeping if off. I know that if she can do it, my husband can do it. Now, on to all of the insurance nightmare. I am crossing my fingers for a good outcome. I wanted to thank the people who have posted here and on spotlight - You are a continued inspiration to us. Andrew cited your progress as part of his decision to get the band. Bravo to you all!

    Those darn newspapers!

What an irresponsible article! Seriously, would anyone here really blend up a twinkie into a milkshake? Give me a break! Babs, I am so glad you wrote that letter. Thank you. Tami

    Help Re: Psych Eval

My husband is going through this right now as well, too, and the surgeon is the one requiring the psych eval (as well as nutritionist eval). His doctor gave us a handout detailing exactly what needed to be addressed in the evaluation. Give your doc a call. I am sure he has a list of questions that need to be addressed. Tami;)
  10. Anyone have the same insurance? Email me! My hubby's first consult is 8-12-03. So far we have had to pay for the nutritionist eval and psych eval out of pocket. Bummer. I will update all insurance information as we get it.

    decision making

My husband and I are both considering the band. He has 175+ pounds to lose and I have about 75. He has his first consult with Dr. Li in Burlingame, CA in a couple of weeks and is really excited. I, on the other hand, am trying to get pregnant right now and don't think it is the right time for WLS. After I am done with having babies, I will be more open to having surgery. By the way, if anyone here has had infertility issues related to PCOS on this board, I would love to talk to you in particular. My husband's main concern right now is whether or not to go with the band or RNY. Of course, insurance is more likely to cover the RNY, a story many of you have heard a million times. I am willing to private pay for the band, even if that means going out of the country. He has a "wait and see what the insurance says" attitude. I am very supportive of his endeavors to lose weight and will be there every step of the way. After having read a few posts on the friends and caregivers section of Spotlight Health, I am a little nervous about the psychological toll of weight loss on both partners in a marriage, but we are committed to working it out together.

    Hello ..

Julie, you said you no longer have symptoms of PCOS. Can you give me more info on this? What symptoms did you have, and what symptoms have gone away? I am trying to get pregnant and my doc says I am a PCOS variant and if I lose weight, it will help my symptoms as well. You can email me privately at andrewandtami@yahoo.com if you want. Tami:)
  14. This looks like it will shape up to be a great way to learn about the band, give support, and receive support. My husband and I are both considering the band.
