I'm counting net carbs. As a matter of fact I just found my Atkins book and decided to use that to guide me in order to speed up my weight loss which is very slow. I am going to do induction for the next two weeks (under 20 grams) and then move to OWL (under 40 grams) ...that's the plan (for now).

Spicy Foods<<<I Miss U!
Katie713 replied to beautifuldiva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 2 months out and able to enjoy my chili! I make a great homemade jalapeno salsa and it doesn't bother me at all, tabasco sauce on eggs, Thai flavors, etc. A raw chili did kick my A** over the weekend though so I'll wait a little while to try that again! -
Starting Class Tomorrow
Katie713 replied to babyblues4all2c's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
He is a wonderful doctor his nurses said he is one of the best there....my surgery on 4/6 went great and I healed fast and no problems. Went home after 1 night in the hospital, and back to work, working out, on solids and feeling great! -
I have the same cravings being Mexican, during pureed stage refried beans with melted cheese, a little salsa and FF sour cream hit the spot and my sleeve loved it. Now I enjoy a small soft taco or a little taco salad made with ground turkey, lettuce, tomato, grated cheese and salsa, or a chile relleno omelette, just sautee a little onion and canned chopped green chiles, add one egg to make the omelette and top with low fat shredded mexican cheese. Totally low carb and high protein.

Also at 8 weeks. Loving salads again, and I tolerate chicken, fish and meat pretty well. Tuna is a YES and I enjoy some of the Lean Cuisines that are soft and flavorful without too many carbs. Soups are great, a little soft taco now and then, avocado, cottage cheese with fruit, omelettes. How about you?

If you have fast food Mexican restaurants nearby refried beans with cheese is a good option for protein and fiber. A single serving is about a buck in Los Angeles. Great for your pureed food stage and later add a scoop of ground beef for extra protein.

2 Weeks Out And Still Have Abdominal Pain
Katie713 replied to twistedkitten25's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That happened to me too. I turned over in bed and I must have pulled something and was in alot of pain for a few days. I had my post op appt with the surgeon and he told me the same thing. I immediately pulled back on my activity and rested for a few days and took my pain meds, and the pain subsided. After that I was just really careful and not doing anything too strenuous because I realized I had internal stitches where they penetrate the muscles to do the surgery on our stomachs. Rest and let it heal. -
You have my vote. I was planning to go to trader joes this week! Sounds great!

I meant to say 2 net carbs on the Atkins bar.
-
I really like the Atkins breakfast bar with cranberries and almonds...most of their products are amazingly good. There's 150 calories, 10 g protein, no sugar, and w net carbs and it fills you up. The website" world according to eggface" has some good recipes including ricotta pancakes. Good Luck!

Is It Normal To B Hungry Every 2-3 Hrs?
Katie713 replied to CHELL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's absolutely normal. This is a perfect time for a high protein snack between meals to get you through and keep up your energy levels. Try having a protein shake between breakfast and lunch, and then again in the later afternoon. Or have a SF pudding made with FF milk or perhaps some cottage cheese with canned fruit like crushed pineapple. At this stage of the game, you are not eating much, so of course the body is hungry. No need to starve! Eat healthy and you'll be fine. -
Let Them Eat Cake
Katie713 commented on tmorgan813's blog entry in A funny thing happend while I was loosing weight
I went through a similar experience over the Memorial weekend, my niece's 21st birthday BBQ with the family, hamburgers, hot dogs, cake and ice cream..... I served myself a hamburger patty with cheese, a few slices of pickle, a tablespoon of potato salad, but strangely, it filled up that paper plate, and as I sat down, I realized there was no way I could finish that plate. I ate half the burger and the pickles, and tasted the potato salad, and I was FULL. I could see those around me with their loaded plates, and I was remembering days gone by, with a hot dog and a burger, salads, chips, drinks...then dessert later, and I would never be really full. My old tummy needed volume to quell the hunger...and even then, I think my gherlin was always in overdrive. I had a taste of cake and it didn't do a thing for me...I felt elated that it had lost it's hold on me. I am lovin my sleeve. It has given me the gift of control. True, I don't get the subtle high of what my old meals brought me, but it has given me the choice to find other ways to feel good, not just by eating myself into a never ending cycle of feeling good and then feeling guilty. -

18 Months And Counting...photo Update
Katie713 replied to M2G's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
You really look fantastic and I bet you feel great too. I am still a newbie on this journey but your photos really give me hope! -
Same with In N Out and Carls Jr here in California...order it protein style however you like it, comes wrapped in lettuce. Still too much for my baby sleeve (7 weeks old) but later this summer maybe.

I'm 7 weeks out and doing well. I feel like myself, but the first 4 weeks the meal plans were out of the ordinary, I found I hardly had any hunger but I made sure to meet my requirements for liquid intake and protein. I'm on regular food now and although I can't eat much, I can eat about 1/2 to 1 cup of food which allows a piece of meat, fish or chicken, salad, fruit, veggies, maybe a little low carb treat, a few whole wheat crackers with tuna or chicken salad, cheeses, lunchmeat, yogurt...and I feel so much better over 60 lbs lighter including pre-op weight loss! You can so do this!
-
Try the potatoes with a little chicken gravy, very low in calories. Then later add canned chicken its so soft when you are on mushies.
-
Catrate makes the mini tablets...so easy to get down, at 7 weeks out I am off chewables, hallelujah!

Last week I made a lasagna dinner and caesar sald for my family to celebrate my sons 30th birthday. I had an idea from eggface to make a ricotta bake on the side for myself using a little ramekin, I put 1/4 c meat sauce on the bottom and a nice dollop of ricotta (mixed with egg and parm) then more sauce, then a nice shake of grated parm and topped with 1T motzarella and let that bake until bubbly and brown just like we love our lasagna. I could only eat 1/2 of the 1 cup ramekin with my itty bitty caesar salad with lite dressing but it was so good and I had leftovers!

9 Weeks Post Op, What Is Your Calorie Intake?
Katie713 replied to kimmr's topic in Food and Nutrition
Perhaps you can shift to healthier carbs (whole grains), and eat your solid protein first then veg, then a tablespoon or so of a starch. If I need a sweet crunch as a snack I'll have an Atkins daybreak bar like cranberry almond...2 net carbs and 10 g protein. Just think about your alternatives. Get creative. Trader Joes has so many fantastic foods, do you have one near you? -
I just found Blue Bunny sweet freedom treats as well....raspberry swirl dipped on dark chocolate. 4 net carbs, 70 calories, 2 g protein, no sugar added. The size is perfect too and they taste fantastic.
-
I'm also 7 weeks out and started salads last week and no problems whatsoever. Of course its the teeniest salad in order to have the greater part of my meal as protein. But I can't wait to enjoy my salads this summer!

How To Find Peace With Your Sleeve When Over 50!
Katie713 replied to SandSandles's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I found your post very illuminating and appreciate your frankness as I navigate these dame waters. I'll be 57 this summer and the weight is coming off very slowly...at times I am not as diligent as I should be, but I feel your post has sparked something in me and I will use that spark to pull in the reigns and be stricter with myself...less carbs, more focus. Thanks.
