Does anyone in Tucson want to have a LapBandTalk meeting or anything? Also, does anyone know when and/or where some support groups are? Thanks!!

Started Exercising And Stopped Loosing Weight?
nontradguy replied to aliciab's topic in Fitness & Exercise
While this is true, because she wasn't working out beforehand, the likeliest cause for the lack of any weight lost is due to muscular Water retention. It's pretty amazing what a few sessions with good 'ole Tony can do . -
How Many Multivitamins Do You Take Per Day?
nontradguy replied to Meduseld's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
There's no amount of "multvitamins", in general. Just take one dose, as directed, of the multivitamin you bought. If you take too much, it could cause problems. Be careful and follow the directions on the bottle!! -
This is most definitely a "loaded" question. haha. But I will answer it like this: My wife is having the same problem. There are lots of different reasons why the scale could be not moving. As I'm sure you know, muscle weighs more than fat, so it is POSSIBLE that you're building muscle faster than you're losing fat. Note I said possible, not probable. Having said that, though, I have zero idea what your training routine, cardio routine, and diet are, so I couldn't even venture to guess how likely that is. Four things we need to know: a) how many calories do you eat, per day? what does your diet consist of? c) what is your normal workout? d) how often do you work out?

I would love to meet you guys and we could have our own little support group and/or walk. What are your schedules like?

I used to drink soda most or two most days, but since I stopped, I can't do it anymore. It's almost painful and it makes me feel bloated, like another person said. I would steer clear, honestly. Plus it's bad for your teeth, if nothing else..:
-
I did it for the first two weeks...and then I wussed out. It was really cool and I loved how I felt afterwards, but it was a little tough on my knees. I'll try it again after I get down to 215-220 or so.

Dr Said Nothing And Not Requiring Multi-Vitamin
nontradguy replied to donna12's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Honestly, think it's better to take a multi-Vitamin that not to for the majority of the population. All of the water-soluable Vitamins will get excreted out with urine, so there's no realistic chance of overdosing. Obviously, overdoing the fat-soluable vitamins is a small risk, but multi-vitamins that would cause something like that are few and far between, especially in the popular OTC brands. Also, there is a grain of truth about the Iron in multi-vitamins. That's why men's multi-vitamins don't have as much iron. It's a good supplement for women, though, because of the menstrual cycle. Now, there have been some legitimate studies recently about Calcium supplement dosing in women and how around 800mg/day is okay, but around 1100mg/day increases risk of cardiac events as much as 30%, I think it was. I'll see if I can find that study and I'll put it up here if I can track it down. I actually start losing a little hair when I first started with the band, but I was going a little crazy with the small portion idea. After I fell off that train and started eating a little more, I was fine. -
I just found this networking thing on bodybuilding.com called "bodyspace". It's free and all that. A less intense version of myspace, perhaps? haha. Anyway, I signed up and started a group called "weight loss surgery" for those of us who have lap-bands and such. There weren't any ones like that on there that I could find, so I figured I'd start one. Banders unite!! I'm not trying to make this one of those "if U want 2 become da ripped-est person eva, come here!" types of things, by the way. haha. This is for all of us, not just those that want to try to get lean. I just discovered bodybuilding.com about a week-ish ago while I was trying to get some Protein and Multivitamins for the wife and I. I was poking around there and they have a TON of great workouts to try to mix up the regular routine, great articles to read about almost anything related to health, and more than you'd ever want to know about supplements. Mostly, though, it's just nice to have people around that lost a ton of weight and be able to read about their whole experience. At any rate, I like it, thus far. This is by no means an ad for them, by any stretch. I have ZERO affiliation with bodybuilding.com, nor am I looking to. I just found this and it's a great resource that I wanted to share with my fellow banders. To avoid mods thinking I'm a salesman, I'll not post a link, but if you want to find it, just go to bodybuilding.com and look for the tab that says bodyspace. Once you sign up, look for a group called "weight loss surgery". That's mi casa. There's actually a forum on there, too, that I set up. You can post questions, comments, or whatever on there. If you have questions, let me know!

To Those Of You Who Say You Don't Have Time For Exercise...
nontradguy replied to Violet953's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Let it be known, I've been known to lecture. Yes, I'm that kind of guy, so I understand you're frustration. Let it also be known that I respect your motivation. It takes a lot to get through injuries. I get it. I had a traumatic brain injury that had doctors telling me that I would never work out again...but I didn't let that stop me. Now, the gist of what you were trying to get at is fully legitimate, and I tend to agree. "If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen." However, remember who it is that you're talking to and the goal of this whole forum. The goal here is to encourage people to lose weight. It's not so much of a "tough love" environment. Also remember that everybody reacts differently to "tough love". Some more positively than others. All that said, while I understand and agree with what you're trying to say, I would recommend toning the "enthusiasm" down a little. haha. (Oh, and on a side note, until my account got messed up, I had a few hundred posts.) -
Hey there! I'm John and I've had my band for 3 years. I've definitely had my ups and downs, but I'd love to find someone to talk to and/or hang out with. I lost 100lbs and since I got all skinny and met my wife, I've gained a lot of happy weight back. haha. If you're interested, PM me and we'll exchange numbers!

scale test before trying something full scale. lol. Care to take a crack at it?
-
I'm kind of with Jacqui. You could be over-training, but you could also be not having enough calories. How many calories are you eating in an average day? Also, how many grams of protein do you think you're consuming per day?
-
Before I met my wife at my lowest banded weight, I was incredibly happy with my sex life. It was NOT hard to meet a girl and have...relations. lol. Luckily for me, though, I met that lovely lady and, as expected, the frequency has decreased. haha.
-
I'm with Jenn on this one. As long as it doesn't affect other aspects of your life in a negative way, you've picked a pretty awesome thing to get addicted to. haha. I'm the one who is jealous now! hahaha.
-
Jen, I haven't done it myself, but I've heard from friends that it was a bit easier and more geared towards MOST people. I, personally, started with P90X and let me tell you, I got a stiff a** whipping the first day, but I stuck with it and it felt awesome after I finished. I would actually like to try Power 90, too, so I really look forward to what people have to say. What have you heard about it? EDIT: So, I just did a little research and here's what I found out: - P90X is harder and some people say that Power 90 is a good lead-in. - Power 90 has crappy music and a bland stage, so it's tough to maintain interest, unlike P90X, they say. - P90X gives you more of a "diet plan", not that it's all that important to us, most of the time. I'm gonna be honest. After doing this research, I'm happy I didn't buy Power 90. I'm a really visual person, so if I felt like I was doing an 80's aerobic video on steroids, I would have checked out early. haha. The other thing that I like about P90X is the dialogue. There's a lot of really entertaining lines in there that kept me interested and entertained. I think the toughest part about P90X for me was that it was tough to keep up at first. I felt like a certifiable weakling for the first couple of weeks. He tells you, too, to take breaks if you need them, and you bet I did. lol. I probably did 60-70% of what they did, as far as quantity goes, but I'm slowly improving. It was tough. All things considered, I would just go with P90X, but that's me. Sorry for the long post. haha.

Those are some great workout ideas and all of them would help. I think it's the frequency of your workouts that's your issue. Try 5-6 times a week, even if it's not the same thing. Jacqui's idea was fantastic! As a guy, that's also the only way that I can do a nice cleaning of the house. haha. I know you have a young kid, but I suppose you might be able to find 30min most days. The biggest thing here is remembering what we're trying to do. We're trying to lose weight as fast and efficiently as possible, so we need to keep our eyes on the prize!!

I'm unable to log into my original account for some reason. My username and password in the login were the same, though. I'm just curious what happened. Thanks!!
-
I'm curious about getting it for PS3, but nobody has any reviews. It looks pretty cool.
-
I shall call it..."da-bump". haha.
-
I'm totally in!!
-
There's a huge bit of truth in your title. haha. The more often you get sore from the lactic acid, the better shape you'll get in, and better yet, the faster you'll lose weight.

It says I can't PM you. Try PMing me.

Let's clarify this. I've had my band for 3 years and I'd be lying bold-faced if I didn't say I've gone through phases of enjoying a martini or three every now and again. haha. The claim that alcohol affects bandsters more than non-banded people is purely circumstantial. It has mostly to do with how often you drink, how much you eat, and if you're a man or a woman. The band, in and of itself, makes no change in anatomy, so the physiology of alcohol metabolism doesn't change. HOWEVER, in someone with a gastric bypass, the anatomy is modified. The little pouch that they have dumps right into the small intestine, bypasses where the stomach would begin metabolizing the alcohol, so when the alcohol hits the small intestine, it soaks it right in, which increases blood alcohol level MUCH quicker.
