  1. My doc seems wayyy too chilled, so I would love to get opinions from people who have actually had surgery and can tell me how long it took for them to be able to get active/go into the Water Thanks everyone! BTW, surgery is scheduled for 8/17! can't wait! Oh, and BTW, how to I edit my ticker to reflect a 2 lb weight loss? I keep pressing the "edit" button but it prompts me to make a whole new one THANKS!
  2. Thanks guys, I'm pretty good on the ski so I'm not worried about falling out, and i wear a life jacket so i'm guessing my incisions won't get too wet but i'm still gonna wait at least two weeks Thanks everyone

    Failed My Band

see your doc and get a fill Plan meals in advance (protein filled so you'll actually be full) so that when your grandkids ask you to dig in you will be able to control yourself better I know your in a lot of pain and plantar fascitis sucks big time, but what about weight lifting, even just lifting 2-4 pound weights while watching tv? There are exercises that do not involve legs that will be beneficial to you

    August Roll Call

plication=folding, so in this context the surgeon literally "folds" your stomach (using stitches) reducing it's volume

How Do You Get In 1000 Calories

I'm assuming that with this chart we're only supposed to be eating one row for breakfast, right? (otherwise that seems like quite a lot...)

Now i'm even more annoyed that my doc won't do plication for me I kept asking him about it but he said no. Also, my insurance won't cover it (Wellmark) Seems i'm reading more and more about the miracles of plication and i'm bummed that its not in the cards for me

    Bad Situation! :(

Hello Personally I would NEVER tell someone just because I don't want them to be pissed that I'm not eating chinese food at their party. This is a medical issue and a lifechanging operation that you should keep to yourself if you so choose. If your already so sure she's gonna spill your secret then is she really such a good friend? Tell her your really not feeling well and your sorry but your too sick to eat chinese or drink alcohol. If she's not mature enough to be understanding of your pain/health/feelings then she's probably not mature enough to be going to university Just my two cents Good luck with whatever u choose !
  9. don't let her get to you she's obviously threatened by you. Rise above it by being kind to her and ignoring her insults/jabs. Your kindness will drive her MAD lol!!
  10. my preop diet seems like a walk in the park compared to the 2 week liquid diets everyone talks about My doc just said i should be on atkins for 2 weeks before surgery, does that make sense? (is it possible he made a mistake? or that i misunderstood his orders?!)

    It's None Of Your Business!

Wow I'm so glad I stumbled into this thread. I have been debating telling anyone about this decision. Truthfully, most people I know do not understand WLS surgery. They do not understand that it's JUST A TOOL. They think it's magic, and i'm scared that when I don't lose weight fast they will look at me as a complete failure. I understand the work that comes with losing weight with the band. I understand that the weight comes off (sometimes painfully) slowly. I understand that it's not a miracle cure for obesity. My friends/family unfortunately do not understand. Case in point: My mom went with me to my final doc appointment before surgery and he explained that in the beginning i probably won't lose much weight until i heal and am properly adjusted. As we left the office my mom whispered "he's just trying to downplay the weight loss. I know you're gonna lose 50 lbs before october" WTF!!! My dad is the same way. He keeps saying I will loose 100 lbs in 8 months. These people are dreaming. For this reason I know that no matter what I accomplish I will look like a failure in their eyes because i'm (fairly) certain that I will never live up to their expectations. That's why the less people that know the better. I can't be a failure to my friends too yes it's very sad that I won't be getting proper support from my parents but I guess i'll just have to be strong and never feel like a complete failure

lookin good! keep up the great work
  14. Wondering the same thing! My doc is also over an hour away and I wonder how many times/how often I will need to go I guess it varies so there's no hard answer ??
  15. I have been hearing very conflicting things. I do realize that the green zone feeling can vary from person to person, but can you please post what it feels like FOR YOU? Also, did I hear somewhere (maybe it was here?) that when you get to the green zone the nerve that makes us crave food is effected, helping subside cravings?
  16. When you get that full feeling after a few bites, is it very difficult being at a table full of food and surrounded by people eating tons? That's basically my problem, when i'm at a table full of awesome food i overeat
  17. wow toddy and marfar thats really amazing! @toddy: may I ask, what were your eating habits before the band? did you eat big huge meals? and now even if your sitting at a table with your whole family "digging in" you won't have interest?
  18. Oh, here's where i saw it http://www.lapbandtalk.com/topic/136997-im-wondering-about-the-full-feeling-after-surgery-what-does-it-really-feel-like/ "The band stimulates a nerve and sends a signal to your brain, telling your brain that you are full, and you don't - can't eat anymore. But in reality you have not eaten anything all day! So physically you're not full, but you brain keeps telling you are. Have you ever eaten so much that you say something like "I'm so full I can't even look at another slice of cake!" Well, that's kind of what it is."
  19. I just got insurance approval for the lap bad yesterday (WHOOOOO HOOOOO!!) But i'm just wondering, did I make the right choice in deciding on the Lap Band over the other weight loss surgeries? I mainly chose LB because -It's adjustable -It's (supposedly) reversible/removable (If need be) -Seems to be the least invasive -The thought of rerouting/removing my stomach freaks the $h!t out of me! What are your thoughts? Thanks in advance
  20. The surgeons office just called me to tell me that on august 16th they can do the surgery!! i'm legit FLIPPING OUT!!! (In a good way ) I DO NOT want to go into this unprepared. I realize that it's impossible to fully be prepared, and I will be treading in unknown waters for the first while, but for now I want to to the best i can in terms of prep. Does anyone have any links to good articles/blogs/sites with good prep info? Anyone have any tips/advice for a newbie? Anything would be extremely helpful Thanks!!!

    Feel Like A Faulure

Your patience is mind boggling. And very amazing. So you live your life dieting with the band and barely see and fruits of your labor? OMG!

    Feel Like A Faulure

First of all, CONGRATS on losing 14 pounds!! Secondly, I'm so sorry to hear that your not satisfied with the rate of weight loss. maybe get your thyroid checked for hypothyroidism. I know people who have hypothyroid's and it majorly slows down their metabolism and causes them to gain weight (or not lose any) through no fault of their own Good Luck,
  23. Thanks, Glad to hear And BTW congrats on being more that halfway towards your goal!! and in only like 2 months?!! whoohooo!!
  24. Thanks everyone for the responses Just wondering, when you googled "lap band" and saw all the horror stories, were you at all deterred? This morning I started to freak out when I read a story of someone who got the band and gained everything back after one year. Then she said that the real statistics show that long term lap band success is only hovering at around ~10% :o OMG!
