Why Are People So Negative Regarding The Lapband?
Lapbandster replied to lrhodes46's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, my doctor himself explained to me that many doctors try to dissuade people out of the lapband because the big money maker is in the operating room. With Gastric Bypass/ Sleeve they operate, get paid, and never have to see the patient again. With Lapband, the doctor alots a lot of time to followups and fills and that's not where the big bucks are. Not sure if i would believe this if I hadn't heard it from my doc himself THIS is where some of the lap band negativity comes from in my opinion -
whooohooo!! Good for you!

This video was uploaded to youtube in 2010, so this does not appear to be a new way of placing the band. In his videos it seems like the band is practically touching the diaphragm -

yes yes, I certainly will listen to my doc and follow his instructions to the best of my abilities, BUT, it still doesn't sit well with me that there is SO much opposing information. This isn't just a variance with, for instance, how long you should be on the pre-op diet for, or if you should be drinking carbonation or not, or if you should be on full liquids or not after a fill. This is a discrepancy with the most basic fundamentals/mechanisms of the Lap Band system! -

Cool, that's interesting. I love hearing different ideas behind the carbonation/no carbonation rules -

I'm suddenly feeling so queasy. Sort of like i'm suddenly out of the loop -
Does this taste issue have anything to do with ketosis/bad breath? Maybe your tasting your smelly breath? (kinda like how everything tastes gross in the morning before you brush your teeth and take a swig of mouthwash)

I never thought soft drinks were anything besides carbonated beverages. I thought everything else can be classified as tea, juice, water, etc. (thanks for the clarification) Of course I will keep listening to my doc exclusively, but these aren't just variances- they are completely different schools of thought (sometimes opposing and contradictory) on how the band works. The very same band we all have. To me that's sort of unsettling -

That depends on how small it actually is. This video makes it seem almost non existent. Others show it being bigger -
Sorry for being troll-ish, but I wanted to bump this thread and see if anyone else can chime in. I was just banded 6 days ago and want as much insights as possible about full signs before I start eating real foods

Interesting. So that idea of a pouch filled with a cup of food above the band is really a bad thing because we are stretching our our esophagus? (sorry to ask such an idiotic question, but I'm confused now! I thought we were SUPPOSED to have some food sitting on top of the band) -
Cant WAIT to join you in onederland!! Good for you!

I haven't heard negative (yet) about chewing gum, and have chewed a bit following surgery. but I'll ask my surgeon tomorrow when i see him

As long as you meet all your insurance's stated requirements, they cannot really deny you it's up to true results to help you achieve the requirements (cardiac clearance, upper GI, 6 month supervised diet, etc etc)

Back To Old Habits And Dont Know What To Do, Help??
Lapbandster replied to ☠carolinagirl☠'s topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
LIKE! I feel that the real reason we let ourselves stumble in the first place is because we're not honest with ourselves. Being honest with other people is easy. Being honest with ourselves is what's brutal. There is no room for white lies -

elcee, I am right there with you in your confusion. I was just banded on Friday and am kinda disturbed with the conflicting things i'm hearing! Honestly, I thought that after we eat, the food sits above the band kind of like a mushroom on top and slowly seeps through. I guess I was wrong all along Maybe the reason that some doctors, including Dr. O'brien, have no issues with soft drinks after the band is because, while carbonation was once thought to stretch the "pouch", there actually is no actual pouch (according to Dr. Obriens videos and explanations at least) -

Also, in part #3 at 6:48 he says that low calorie soft drinks are OK. Besides for hearing from my own doc, this is the only only other time I have heard this is permissible -

No, I doubt my preferences will change. Call me crazy, but I like a bigger guy. they're usually very accepting of other people and chilled (as long as they're not the uncomfortable self conscious type with low self esteem) I truly don't think I will ever feel attracted to/comfortable around a "brad pitt' or "tom cruise" kinda guy But, hey... who knows?

1) if your working out you may be gaining weight, but not fat. You may be gaining muscle weight 2) sometimes our bodies don't lose pounds, just inches (which rocks too!)
