Lapbandster replied to Wisteria75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just added you all i'm hannar1989 -
sounds to me like you're ready to get on track again which is excellent. As Mis73 has said, i think you should re-educate yourself on the tecnique/mechanism of the band. When you go to your doctor make it clear that you know you screwed up and would rather not be chastised. Also, explain to him that you were very dissatisfied with the NP's treatment. He needs to know that, as he should be responsible for the care his nurses distribute. (and even if she was fired, the new one may still need to be spoken to about this issue with the fills. In fact, my post-op nurse was TERRIBLE. she screamed and yelled at me because i couldn't wake up from the anesthesia right away and needed a few extra mins. I told this to my doc and he was very grateful that I informed him of this)

Did anyone ever feel that since your overweight it sort of "excuses" you from accomplishing things/being the best you can be? Like for example "the reason i don't have a boyfriend is because i'm obese" or "i have a sucky job but can't switch because i'm obese and who else will hire me?" The list goes on and on. I truly think that so many people "fail" WLS, and/or can't keep the weight off because they hide behind their obesity and use it as one big excuse, because if they were thin they would actually have to face the facts. For example, I just graduated (degree in Biology) but am stalling applying for grad school because I think "well i'm too obese to be a success anyways and everyone will hate me" also, I am avoiding dating even though at least two guys like me and want to date me because I keep telling myself "just wait, when your thin you'll be a better date". So it's almost like losing weight will strip me of my excuses to be a 'nobody". Obviously this is all denial and it's tough to battle Sometimes facing the facts are tough and "hiding behind" our weight in the shadows gives an "excuse to not try. When I feel like I might want to cheat I have to tell myself (sometimes loudly) "stop being afraid to be successful" I don't know, maybe this makes no sense, but in my head it sort of did

First Stressful Event Without Food As My Bff.
Lapbandster replied to neece1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try to train yourself to relieve stress by working out. I used to also get satisfaction by eating food. Food calmed me down too. But i'm trying to get to a place where I can feel EVEN BETTER by doing exercise and releasing those endorphins! There are many things you ca do to help yourselfr in stressful situations you just gotta find a healthy outlet! -
Weight Loss Is Nonexistent, Need Nutritional Advice (About Weighing/choosing Food Etc). Any Help Is Appreciated!
Lapbandster replied to Lapbandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you for your response! Yes I did do the pre-op diet (wasn't liquid though) and I lost about 7 lbs in a week, so it actually makes a lot of sense to me that the "honeymoon" fast and easy part of the diet is over, which is why the weight slowed. I actually emailed my doc my entries of myfitnesspal.com and will see what he says about my diet/where i am making mistakes/where i can improve etc. -
New Here, Looking To Get Banded In Jan. '13
Lapbandster replied to Butterflybaby's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
If your family won't support you then maybe don't tell them? There is nothing worse than an unsupportive/uninformed family. My family is supportive but very "spaced out" they expect the weight to magically fall off. they think that my (relatively small) weight loss isn't good enough. they're nice to me, but i can sense the disappointment they're feeling. If they are uninformed/unsupportive then PLEASE get support from somewhere else. If you do choose to tell them, maybe sit them down and explain to them that this isn't magic -

Of course it occurred to me. Which is exactly why I included an eye-rolling icon. I thought that was made very obvious/understood.... As far as my other post about members trying to play doctor, I am simply saying that when I ask about eating an 8 ounce meal/measuring those 8 ounces it is frustrating to hear other members stray from topic and compare my surgeons post-op orders to theirs. It only adds to my chagrin hearing that my doctors orders are "quite unusual". Nevertheless I am aware that everyone only means well and I appreciate that Anyhow, if anyone took offense, please accept my apologies. I certainly never intended to upset anyone -
Fear Of Losing Weight And Denial
Lapbandster replied to Lapbandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thanks everyone for the responses I truly feel less and less alone when I hear people are going through similar things as me. I know losing weight won't solve all my probs but I am hoping that being lighter will give me the confidence I need to tackle them -

Wow thats VERY little. Most people post that they're on a 1000 calorie diet and cutting carbs down to 50-100 grams per day. Kudos that you're ok on so little cals/carbs -
Recovery Time???
Lapbandster replied to Harrier's Woman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery on friday morning and felt so good by staurday night. I didn't need the prescription painkillers my doc gave me, and really had not much pain altogether. I was back driving/resuming most of my daily activities by monday But, you know your body better than anyone so only you can really know when your 100% better. I have also heard some people need a full 10 days to feel 100% (no gas pains etc). So just take it slow and listen to your body -

Lapbandster replied to Lapbandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes my surgeon gave me a food plan. Only liquids for the first week post-op and then after I can slowly introduce foods as I can tolerate them. Anyhow, weird thing is that I weighed myself this morning and saw I was down 2 lbs for a total of 16 lbs! The weirdest part is that it's after I kinda cheated (yesterday was a bad day for me). Thanks to all! you have offered such useful insights Thank you for your insight, but please do not try to play doctor. I am closely following my surgeons instructions and plan to continue doing so. Promise -

Dont Know If I Can Make It.
Lapbandster replied to MikeW's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it makes you feel any better, remember that this is the HARDEST part for most people, and day in and day out I am reading about many people in your precise position who feel like they can't survive this diet. Just watch some funny episodes for friends/arrested development/modern family etc. to get your mind off of this -

How Do You Move On After Messing Up???
Lapbandster replied to Lori Voss Green's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
as always Mis73's insights are awesome I too, had a very bad day today and am feeling horrible. BUT if we continue to feel sad/miserable about the fact we cheated, we will be even MORE prone to fail. Keep your head held high and remember tomorrow is another day. Be honest with yourself about why you cheated and write it down. That way you will be more aware of your pitfalls and how to avoid them. According to your ticker you ALREADY lost 24 LBS!!! THATS AMAZING!! Just remember that now you are 24 pounds lighter forever -

When Do You Start To Feel The Weight Loss?
Lapbandster replied to chrissssy's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
20 lbs doesn't feel like a lot, especially for those of us who need to lose a ton more weight, but here's what i recommend to get some perspective: Take 4 5lb bags of flour/sugar and try lifting them all. when you see how much 20lbs feels like, you will be euphoric with excitement that it's GONE!!! -
Two Weeks Post-Op And Only Lost 12Lbs Is This A Good Number?
Lapbandster replied to Nayelli's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
yes thats great! I'm 3 weeks out and only lost 14 lbs IN TOTAL!! -
yah i totally understand where you are coming from I'm very frustrated these days (lots going on) And the weight is coming off super slow (bandster hell!!), which my family constantly keeps reminding me of. Everyone expected the weight to magically melt off!

do not fret! if you listen to your doc, you will be fine!

Very well said. I'm practically speechless that this doc can post such misinformation publicly on youtube. My doctor warned me that some other docs may try to spin the information that sways you from LB (possibly for their own personal reasons) but this guy is something else. Again, not saying that sleeve is a bad choice (and i know a guy who got sleeved and is thrilled), but c'mon. Docs should at least have the decency to relay (somewhat) accurate information
