Almost 10 Years!
Lapbandster replied to Nette Fosters's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! 10 years! Thats incredible! Welcome and thanks for sharing your story! -
oh wow! That sounds freaky! Now i'm so afraid to get my fill! Up until now (post-op but no fill) I have been able to eat practically everything and sometimes if i eat too fast i'll feel icky but it eventually passes (I get a watery mouth, my eyes water also, and i feel a gross pressure in my chest. but it always goes away in a few minutes) and i'll continue eating much slower thanks for posting this Have you got stuck since?

I sometimes take rice cake thins with thin slices of turkey and put on some veggies like red onions/pickles/peppers/cucumbers etc. I measure out 8 ounces of that and have that for a meal. It's got a lot of protein and minimal carbs (especially in comparison to putting it in a roll/pita/bun/bagel etc.)

Got the lapband. Supposedly they have less issues with leakage. But honestly the bands are all so similar that the differences are only tiny nuances

Today Is 4 Months Post Op
Lapbandster replied to jeani81's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thats a lot of weight loss! Congrats! Any tips for us newbies? -
It's tough but here are some tips; 1) dont work out alone- go to a gym. Being around other people working out will motivate you 2) Dont go on machines that bore you! I happen to hate the treadmill- which is why I go on the elliptical and the arc machine + I do tons of strength training 3) If all machines are tough for you/bore you then only do 10 mins at a time and then take a break and do another machine (IE- 10 mins elliptical, 10 mins of the arc machine, 10 mins of treadmill. Before u know it you will have done 30 mins of cardio) Good luck!! When the weight/inches come off you will be much more motivated!

Down to 226.8! Just over a pound to go until I reach my goal!
-
@firebellydancer Your not a freak of nature that you can tolerate soda. Many people can! And lots of surgeons don't have issues with carbonation either. Everyone reacts to the band in different ways
-
Personally if I were yu I wouldn't even buy small cans for son. Having it completetly out of your house will help. "Out of site = out of mind" as they say. Even though its technically hidden in his room, c'mon its practically just as accessible as it being in your fridge. Good luck

So glad i read this!!! Everyone seems to be losing so much more weight than me, and its frustrating for me to see the scale barely move. But now I feel a new sense of hope Ant thank god the scale keeps moving in the right direction (albeit slowly)
-
Same thing with me! I'll go 10+ days and the scale won't move (sometimes even go up) but then one morning i'll be down 2 lbs. Like magic Its so weird, but enjoy the feeling!

How Long Did It Take To Get Back To No Pain??
Lapbandster replied to luvmeru's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Did your doc give you prescription pain meds? Your only two days out so your not supposed to be feeling great! (trust me- been there done that) Use this time to get used to the new feelings of hunger/fullness/gas etc. and just take it easy for another few days. Drink water and keep yourself hydrated -
Ashamed To Meet Husband Co-Workers
Lapbandster replied to Beachgirl11's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wow I can totally relate. But it's more than just co-workers. This feeling creeps up whenever I meet cousins, old friends, or anyone new for that matter. It's horrible, and i can certainly empathize. Remember your on your way to a thinner life. Use the memory of these awkward times to keep you motivated to lose the weight! -
143Lbs Gone And 62.5 Inches
Lapbandster replied to s0utherndivadoll's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Love this! since your a lapband pro at this point, can u share with us your top 5 tips? Would love to hear from someone who has mastered the lapband -
Glad I stumbled onto this thread about 3-4 weeks after surgery I started feeling constipate and when I did poop (which was a rare) the cramping was unbearable. I was literally doubled over in pain. It was a nightmare. I called my surgeon and PCP and they both think it was the new birth control I started which was causing these side effects. Anyhow, i'm trying to lower my calcium intake and so far for the past day or two have been much better. The cramping was the worst pain I have ever felt in my life omggggg

Psychologist Appointment
Lapbandster replied to AbbieL's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
For me they had me fill out a questionnaire, and he asked me a few questions mainly regarding my support system. They just wanted to make sure I had the proper support after surgery etc. Yes they can recommend that you not have the surgery, but if they deem you mentally stable with proper support you should be fine -
Am I reading your ticker correctly that you lost 49 pounds in 6 weeks??!
-
Sounds crazy, but after 2-3 days of not going to the gym I find I lose some weight. I think it has to do with the muscles retaining water/swelling after exercise.
-
I'm in the same boat! My family thinks that after surgery my appetite cravings just magically go away! They buy pizza, chips, cookies etc etc. LOL I guess I can't blame them because why should they have to be on a diet just because I'm on one? But anyhow, after a while you eventually stop desiring this sh!tty food and it gets easier.

Bad Breath Anyone?
Lapbandster replied to VegasMommaof1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have also heard it may be from ketosis if your eating high protein/low carb foods constantly. Keep breath mints/tic tacs in your purse, car, nightstand etc. so you'll have then when needed -
I Might Be The Only 1 Who Feels This Way
Lapbandster replied to ChristinaAshley's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree with everyone who has said you might be too tight. It can be slow and frustrating to getting to the green zone but 1) concentrate on your accomplishments! You really did go far (I'm referring to how much u lost according to your ticker) 2) Try being patient and communicating with your doc. Ideally the band should limit the AMOUNT we eat (and maybe SOME foods) but for the most part you shouldn't be having such drastic issues with eating 3) I know this sounds nuts but i learn a LOT from eating meals with skinny people. I notice that they naturally take smaller bites/chew longer/smaller portions etc etc. Eating around morbidly obese people is very discouraging for a bansdter because they have the ability to literally scarf food down or gulp it like liquids. Just picture yourself as a thin person and then try eating like one -
"stuck Episode" Best Thing To Do Is....
Lapbandster replied to A New New Dawn's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't know if I was ever truly "stuck", but once I had a small bite of a croissant with eggs and started such an intense pressure above the band and felt so AWFUL! It made my mouth water like crazy and drinking didn't help (don't think it hurt though). Supremely uncomfortable feeling, but I just had to wait it out for like 10 mins until it went away. -
As you can see, my ticker hasn't moved in a very long time. I truly am dieting and trying to stick to a plan/go to the gym but I have not been seeing any results How truly frustrating! Now i'm realizing that I MUST be doing things wrong Here's a typical day for me (bear in mind that I have no restriction yet) Breakfast: 2 low fat string cheese's or some eggs and cheese with whole grain rice cakes Snack: 10 almonds Lunch: 4 oz of turkey breast (honey smoked) with a few more ounces of a veggie (pickle) and a few rice cakes or whole wheat crackers, not totaling more than 8 ounces Dinner: (my hardest meal) Something Protein based (chicken or something) but usually with brown rice with some veggies not totaling more than 8 ounces So here are my questions: 1) should I be eating less than 8 ounce per meal? 2) I am measuring on a digital food scale until it reaches 8 ounces- is this wrong (and should I be only eating what I can literally stuff into an 8 ounce cup?) As you can see, my meals are basically protein based and very low carbs are included. I also just joined a gym and go 4 times a week and spend 30 mins on the eliptical doing cardio and 30 mins doing strength training. Some people say the "you are not losing weight because your building muscle" or your weighing yourself t night when your filled with liquids" I just don't believe them
