Sick And Tired Of People Being Rude/discouraging

Thanks everyone! BTW, i knew this would happen so before surgery I explained to her that 1) weight loss is very slow, and a 1 lb/week loss is considered very successful 2) no one expects weight loss for the first few months until proper restriction is achieved. I hoped that this would help set her expectations down but it just "went in one ear and out the other" as they say. She responded "yeah yeah I know they all say how little you lose, but i KNOW you'll lose much more/faster" i guess from now on I will NOT share any weight loss with her. No matter how much she begs/screams/yells at me. I'm so done with this

    Undecided

I agree with the above posters. BUT beware of sleazy doctors!! Many doctors will push you to do the sleeve because they can bill insurance 2.5x more than the lapband and also they don't have to "waste their time" with aftercare/fills. They can spend most of their time in the operating room where the real $$$ is made. (I don't think I would believe this but my doctor himself told me this) That being said, the sleeve may be a good choice for you so have an open mind. Just beware

    First Fill

My fill took about 5 mins. My doc didn't use any numbing meds and I barely felt a thing. It feels less painful than getting blood drawn. He put the needle in my port, filled the band and then had me drink water till I felt in the back of my throat. Then he slowly removed some saline until I made a small burp and that's how much he filled the band. This was on friday. I still dont have full restriction but i sure do feel a difference!

    Things I Have Gained..

Slightly off topic, but i'm so so agitated from my family. Whenever I tell them I lost some weight I get very hurtful responses "that's ALL you lost"? or "You only lost 24 lbs??!! I thought you would have lost 30 by now" It's mainly my mother and i'm really beginning to resent this  I'm working my @$$ off to make this surgery work and she's so discouraging.

Why Are Shady Lap Band Doctors Doing This ???

My doctor didn't offer the information but he told me when I asked him. And honestly I forgot what he said anyways But bottom line: I think as a paying patient I deserve transparency from my doctor. It is my body after all

    ? On Foods To Avoid

AS everyone else has said, you need to try what works for YOU Your doctor is giving you a list of common ptoblem foods but many people find no problems eating them, so it's different for everyone -when eating meat make sure it's cooked well and tender. Also make sure it's not too dry. Gravy rules! Meat can be tough and problematic but it doesn't have to be -Try the foods on the list by eating tiny bites and chewing well. See how you fare and then make your own rulebook Good luck

    October Spooktacular Challenge

Just weighed in today at 222.6 so i'm down around 2.5 lbs since october 1st and 22 lbs total
  18. I have no restriction yet, so sometimes its really hard but i try: -1000 cals or less a day -100 Grams of Protein - less than 100 grams of carbs (preferable around 50 but that barely ever happens) I have not yet seen a nutritionist, but this is what i've read on these forums and I try to stick with it myfitnesspal.com gives you a good idea of how many cals/carbs u need based on your goals

What Difference Does Band Size Make?

I have a 14 cc band (i think? I know it's the bigger of the two) Anyhow, I asked my doc about this and he said not to worry about it because it just depends on the circumference of the esophagus. They make the decision during surgery. The size really doesn't effect weight loss pace. Restriction does As far as the 4cc band, from what I understand they were too small and are not widely used anymore

    Weiging???

Personally, I weigh myself daily but I do NOT recommend it. It gets discouraging to not see the scale move, or sometimes fluctuate Gotta get outta this habit... I think many people say weighing once a week is good
  21. Everyone has different experiences with the green zone, and I have read some interesting things on this site. Some barely feel any physical hunger, others get full after a few bites of food, and others hear their stomach gurgling after they ate enough. I have also heard hunger/feeling stuffed causes some to get left arm pain. So since I am post-op with no fill yet i'm just wondering what your experiences in the green zone are. It can vary, i know, but what does the green zone mean to you?

    Unfill For Convience????

This is an interesting topic. I am traveling to Europe for vacation in January and have thought about getting a small unfill for the trip. I'm afraid that the altitude from flying will make me feel too tight (this I have read is a fairly common occurrence) while i'm too far from my doctor to get any help. This is not for "convenience" it's for safety, and for my own feeling of well being. I cannot imagine a long awaited and planned vacation that I have to spend the whole time being uncomfortable from my band. Seems more like a curse a vacation Dunno how my surgeon would react to that, but its a few months away so I didn't really think about it. i don't think getting a slight unfill for a vacation in another country is any sign of being emotionally unable to control my food intake

    Learn From My $16,000 Mistake

What a tragic story I'm sorry to hear this. You did not write if you followed up with your doctor or not. A good doctor is not just someone who knows how to insert a lapband. A good doctor listens and guides the patient even YEARS after the surgery. If you didn't get proper aftercare then that may have been part of the problem. I don't understand why you couldn't eat out with friends- could you not even keep down soup/mushy things like soft pastas in small bites? (If that was the case then the LB should've been removed IMMEDIATELY imho) As someone else has said- for most of us we're doing WLS because we've tried EVERYTHING ELSE and were not fruitful. WLS is not for someone who has any other options. Seems like you have other options that work (holistic nutrition) Hope you do well with whichever other weight loss tactics you pursue

    Plantar Fasciitis

So glad I stumbled onto this thread. In the past yeAr or so I have had worsening arch painbin my left leg. The pain was excruciating and the doc who made my orthotics was a moron and gave me inserts that are way too big to fit into my shoe. Now when I call him he refuses to return my calls Anyhow, I'm gonna try the frozen waterbortle idea, but I think it will hurt too much Working put has become such a disaster because I'm wincing I'm pain 99% of the time
