  3. Here is a good quote no matter what you choose to tell or not tell: "What people think about us, is none of our business"- Paolo Coelho
  4. Even my doctor mentioned that he could write a note just saying abdominal surgery. That could be so many things. I am choosing not to tell many right now. Definitely not work and i am hoping to not need a note anyway. I know someone who has had the gastric bypass at work and I know because of a big mouth employee who told me not the actual person. I may decide later to tell some other close people in my life but I just don't want to hear stuff like, should you be eating that, or that is the easy route, or you could have done it on your own or worse people keeping track of your weightloss. The reason why I am on here so much is because I find much support here. I also intend on going to oval support groups and hopefully finding a buddy.
  5. Well maybe that is more of a defense thing she does because she can't lose weight. I bet once she sees you she will say something about the surgery but I bet secretly she will wish she had it too.
  6. Really? even worse competing with you? My husband and I are both doing it together. I am a bit more obessed with it than me. I am always on here and talking to him about it. I am grateful that I have resources and support. I think that including her you may find it great to have a close supportive person to share this journey with you. Don't think of it as competition but more as support. That goes both ways because you can be the same for her.

    Post Surgery "Must haves"??

I have looking to get the fitbit. It's cheaper than the bodybugg but still $100...glad to hear you love it. It's going to be my Christmas present and I may get one from my husband too. Since we are both getting banded in December. Thanks!
  8. When I first mentioned the surgery to my mother (who btw I value her opinion) she really didn't have the raction I thought she would. She always was concerned about my weight so I thought she would instantly approve of my decision. She told me about some negative things about people she knows who has had WLS and were unsuccessful. Then she said you can do it, you've done it before by going to the gym. I explain the procedure to her in detail so she would understand exactly how the Lapband works and I explain that yes I have lost the weight but I keep gaining it back and more. I explained that I am going to workout just as hard but I need to control what I put in my mouth to be successful. If I could do it then it would have already been done. I told her that I almost 40 and I want to enjoy my body and be healthy. Lastly I said to her, next year I want you to look at me and tell me that it was the best decision I made. She knows I am not backing out so now she is on board. Mabe you should just tell your dad you made your mind up. Everytime you tell him you are just going to get information, he thinks there is a glimmer of hope that you will change your mind. If it is your decision he will just have to accept it or move on. My entire life I look for my parents approval but this time I have to do this for myself. Once I made my mind I am decided I wasn't turning back. I thought about getting the lapband last year and tried dieting...here I am 60lbs heavier and getting the surgery. I wasted a year but no longer. Get excited about a new you & Good Luck!!!

I failed my band and Dr recommended the sleeve.

Well I am pre-op so this is just an opinion.... You lost 80lbs!!! congrats that is HUGE! I feel that you decided you already failed. I think that you can still use your band to loose but you need to put your part of the work in and keep up with your fills. But if you really want to revise your lapband surgery... I am most likely going to do the Lapband with plication. Which is sewing your stomach to mimic the sleeve with the lapband so its adjustable which should help with long-term plateau issues. Upon researching this procedure, I saw one surgeon say that it can easily be done on someone who already has the lapband. They could go into and perform plication on your stomach. Less invasive with similar results as the sleeve and less chance of slippage. Talk to you surgeon there are other alternatives. Good Luck!
  10. Use this forum as a positive tool. I read bad stuff too but I focus on the positive and I try to learn from other's mistakes. Please let us know how you do...I can't wait to hear. You can be my inspiration for my surgery in December! Good Luck!

  11. Brian I wish you luck, follow your doctors orders and focus on the positive. That is what I plan to do. I like reading the threads and having inspriational friends! Let us know how you do and good luck!

  13. AWWW so sweet!!! Well with much research on here and I found a great explanation on you tube to be exact I want it now!!! Makes sense to me. I her also that it is reversible worst case scenario. I am going to my surgeon's on wednesday and I am talking it over with him. He said he would be ready in December to start the procedure and that is when I am scheduled. THANKS for the encouragement and CONGRATS on your weight loss!!!
  14. My surgeon appointments include the nutrrionist. She really didn't say anything she just asked me a few questions and took my weight but she was free. I only have to pay for the psych that goes there to the office and he is $175. That is it. The endoscopy was covered by my insurance. The other stuff all I paid was $20 co-pays. My surgeon is out of network though so I am just responsible for $300 deductible and that is it he takes whatever my insurance pays as payment. I was told that I pay nothing for the first 3 months post op everything is included with the surgery. So I won't be responsible for next years deductible until April and he will take payments.
  15. How have you been??? long time no see...Any news on a surgery date? I will be finished with all my pre-op stuff by Wednesday. So close! Hope all is well!!!!

    Exercise and hair coloring

Well can you dye your hair before hitting the gym. It should only take you 30 minutes and then wash it again after the gym. But I have dyed my hair before with washed hair It is really not a big deal. Still works. If you are trying to cover resistant gray hair I would suggest getting an additive called "no gray" (any pharmacy carries it) or "gray magic" (usually beauty supply store). Its great, your haircolor stays fresher longer. I have been dying my own hair for years and I get compliments all the time...lol....and I use the cheap stuff :Banane41:

    Lap Band-buddies

this is very interesting to me. So on Facebook you can start a group in your personal profile? Are you sure no else will see it? I would love that without everyone knowing my business. How do I go about doing that?
  21. Feeling really sad that my pre-op weight is the biggest I have ever been. Damn shoes were hard to put on this morning...good thing that this will be temporary :)

    iLAP (Imbricated Lap Band)

I think the worry I have is ....I am not sure if is it reversible? I have to speak to my surgeon on wednesday about it but from what I see on the internet it is reversible. Since its investigational and not all the data is out I would like to know if complications do arise if it is fixable. It seems that my doctor will be ready to do the procedure in December because I spoke to the office manager yesterday and she new that we were considering this "new procedure". In fact my husband and I will probably be his first. I am just hoping that he knows what he is doing. I have to ask him if he has done plications in the past. He is in a Center of Execellence and I hear excellent things about him. In fact he is extremely cautious about starting new procedure without all the information etc., I think that is why he hasn't started yet. I know with the band I am required a 23 hour stay in the hospital but I am not sure if this changes when we add the plication. I know the sleeve is a 2 day stay. Also I am not sure if my insurance will cover that or he will just do it for the price of the band. I guess I will know more Wednesday.
