Primary Md is against lap band surgery

Just an idea, maybe your doctor doesn't want you to cure you weight/food disease because he will longer need to over medicate you. My surgeon mentioned this at his seminar, many doctors see patients will high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, obese with my medical conditions and decide to treat with medication. He says that the medical world needs to start treating certain patients with surgery, because it works and with weight loss from the surgeries most problems become resolved. NOW if your conditions become resolved, there is no need to see you pcp on a regular basis. You are not just a customer you are a person that deserves a great and healthy life. Find a surgeon from a center of excellence nea you and if you don't need a pcp referral make the appointment and move forward. They will tell you what you need in order to get the surgery.
  2. How about * not feeling ashamed to go to the gym! I feel like I am doing the walk of shame when I am going through the gym especially now that I gained my weight back. * being able to buy nice workout clothes. I never understood why store only carry up to XL, big people workout too. * not having to adjust our shirt or pants every time we get up

    Feeling Crappy

GoBanana, sorry I totally took over. Anyways I want to say that I plan on going to the gym! Baby steps but I will make it there. I hoping after Halloween cause I have too much going on. I have a goal to lose 19 lbs before the surgery. I intend on completing it on my own. I know I can do it and it will give me a head start to the rest of my life. So my recommendation is baby steps....as we start losing we will feel better mentally. Let's start our journey now and ot wait for the lap band, that will be our bonus.

    Feeling Crappy

GoBanana, I am waiting eagerly for my band and lately food has been hard to control. Maybe cause I know soon I will be limited. I feel very uncomfortable as this is the highest weight I have been. Yesterday though I got the urge to go to the gym and start eating better because I am ready. I want to go to parties and go shopping. I miss shopping for clotes and feeling sexy, so I think I am headed back to the gym this week. My only issue is that I am scare to go back because I am 50 lbs heavier and I do want the instructors to see me! It sucks that I have to feel shame as a fat person when I go to the gym.

    Band isn't working for me

Your thread is titled,"the band isn't working for me" it should be " I am not working for my band.". The band is doing it's part because without the band you probably would be well over 306lbs by now. Its time you put in you honest effort. You may want to visit your doctor get a fill, see the nutrionist and work on your mind. You are what you think, right now (according to your post) you think you have been defeated and your actions are proving your thoughts. You need to think are going to succeed and follow it up with action. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Primary Md is against lap band surgery

Where in NY? Mine is on Long Island...I went to the Bariatric surgeon first. I never discussed with my regular doctor. All I needed was records with my weights from the last 3 years and I got it from my OB-GYN just because I was there in September. Then I made my own chart with my attempts at weight loss for the last 6 months. That has to be stamp by a doctor. I still have to discuss that on my next appointment. I was hoping they could help me with that but if not I will go to my doctor, I am sure it won't be too much of a doctor. BTW you need to express to your doctor that you have unsuccessful and you already are in the process. For him to not allow you to move forward you may have to move forward with a different doctor. You maybe able to change his mind.
  7. Try to keep focused on your reasons you had the surgery. Slow is better than a gain any day. Know that you WILL get there!
  8. * I want to wear WHITE again and look good in it!! * I want to throw away all the ugly printed shirts I own! * DITTO on the boots! I want to buy, fit and wear a pair of sexy knee high boots. * Of course I will be saving $$$ on food to afford the new clothes lol

    Constipation

what about adding benefiber? Tasteless non gritting and you wouldn't even know its in your juice, water, milk, coffee etc., They even make splenda that has it in there.
  11. (1) How long did it take you to lose that weight? (2) Did you find it difficult to lose or easier than your past attempts? (3) Would you do it all over again? (4) Before surgery, did you fear failure? Or what was your biggest fear about the surgery and now that is done how do you feel about the fear you had? Basically what would your 2011 self tell your 2009 self right before the surgery?

I like this sooo much I add a topic thread on it, in the pre-operation forum! Thanks for the idea, I bet 100 will be easy and we will probably reach closer to 1,000! 100+ Positive Reasons to get the Lapband and outcomes

    December Bandsters!

Roe Roe LOL!!! What about - a bigger sex drive - taking a full length picture of yourself -Not hiding behind others in a group picture (my two kids are always in front of my body and my lean down so all you see is my head in between their two little heads...pathetic) -Being called a Skinny B*itch

    What do you do?

GOOD LUCK to you and your Father lol This will bring great things to you and your Father in the near future. My mother is worried of the unknown and skeptical that this will work since she has seen me try so many things before and go up and down. BUT as I told my mother, I want to hear her say (in the next year or 2) "This was the best thing that you ever did for yourself."

    What do you do?

Well your body is your temple and right now being obese you are not treating it as such. Also its not like you committing a sin. Maybe it was God you led you to the decision to get the Lapband in the first place. It's not like your removing or rearranging anything. It's a reversible procedure. If you had to have a stint in your artery to your heart would you not put it in and risk a heart attack? If you had to have a knee replacement would not have that either? For me overeating is an addiction and a disease and I am sure God would want me to rid of disease and live happy and healthy. If I am going against God then I will ask him for forgiveness. In the meantime I am not going to mix religion with medicine. Just me
  17. This is terrific!!!! I hope to do the same when I reach my goal. I am still in the process but hopefully will be banded in December. Here are my questions: (1) How long did it take you to lose 135lbs? (2) Do you regret having it? (3) What was the hardest thing to get use to? (4) What was the easiest thing about the surgery? (5) Before the surgery, did you have doubts? How do you feel about that now? I think I am most afraid of my mental attachment to food. I just quit Diet Soda on Monday and today I actually was sad about. Like as if I almost lost a friend. I am also afraid of not succeeding after taking such a drastic measure to lose weight.
  18. LOL Thins on the mind... BTW congrats on your decision...keeps us posted on how you do afterwards. I curious to see what your feeling about the Lapband is afterwards...You can help some of us Unbanded Newbies out
  19. Needamulligan-- Thanks!!! That brought a tear to my eye :) When I decided to do this, I decided all in! LOL even my screen name "SinnyMiniMe". I am only dwelling on the great outcome, because that is what I want. Also these forums and people like you help me be positive and strong during this journey. I am hoping that in a year I (and you) will do the same for some newbies. Good Luck & KIT

  20. Well I LOVE seltzer but we can't have carbonation at all so it has to be done. I was having serious withdrawls today! But I had gatorade instead. I did go out and buy Mio (at Target) sweet tea flavor...SOOOOOOOO good. You squirt it into water and it takes like sweetened brewed sweet tea. As for your surgery. I had the same issue with moving it to January, mainy because of financial reasons. Right now my date is tentatively for 12/19 but I am going with the flow, if it happens sooner or later I am not going to get upset. as far as the money I will make it happen. That is why I paced my appointments. FYI I was told that since I work behind a desk (weekends only) I would be able to go back to work 4-5 days. Maybe you can do the surgery on a Friday or something. Just an idea.
  21. After 14 hours of fasting, 6 vials for blood work, 2 Sonograms, 1 stress test and 1 ekg....I am drained!

    December Bandsters!

Here is a few more: -living longer -being able to tie my shoes easily -getting more career opportunities (unfortunately there is lots of weight discrimination) -freely eating in public without being judged -taking control back from food and ending the constant struggle
  23. OMG I am so proud of myself almost 48 hours no soda, no carbonation!!! It's crazy! I never thought possible! It's taking some adjustment to break the habit. I have to say I was sad yesterday. Just like a broke up with a bad boyfriend lol. When I quit smoking I remember always reaching for the lighter, then it would hit me that I no longer smoked. Last night I went to sit down for dinner, my first instinct was to reach for the two liter, then I realized those days are over! So ice tea it is. If I ever change my mind I guess I could have some flat soda but so far so good. I think no drinking with meals will be hard to break. Good luck to you!!!
  24. Just an idea, if your long term insurance is not good with WLS coverage, you may want to consider taking it out or getting the sleeve According to my surgeon the sleeve does not require appointments like the Lapband. So you will not have to worry about all the fill appointments or lapband issues, if any, in the future. Of course you have to be comfortable with having 80% of your stomach cut out of your body forever. Also you may want to ask your surgeon if your problems with the band may have been problem with the actual band or maybe the type of band he used. I am not sure if that could be an issue or not but you may want to ask.
  25. A Miracle has happened!!!! I have been Diet Soda free for over 24 hours :)
