I had my lap band surgery in February of 2011. I have been overweight my entire life. When I saw that the surgery was now being done in my area, I went to a seminar. It was encouraging for many reasons, but the fact that the surgeon had a lap band himself, was definately a plus. My weight was at an all time high, and I knew something had to be done. My Mother had a gastric bypass in the late 70's and was about 50 percent successful. Seeing her life changes over the years, and current medical problems deferred me from desiring the bypass. I am glad I made this decision to work towards successful weight loss, and it was time to invest in me. My doctor reminds me monthly that this is not a race to lose weight, I did not gain it overnight and won't lose it that way either. This is a refreshing time in my life when I am losing weight and not gaining it back.
