    Time Off From Work

I had surgery 1/9/12 and I worked from home today and will go in tomorrow. I have a desk job so I don't have to fear anything strenuous - my only fear is the banquet of sugar/fat/salt that is just outside my door in the office. I was also in touch with work all last week, even the day of my surgery (darned iphone is the worst ball and chain ever!). I could have gone in today too as a matter of fact, I could have probably gone in on Friday- I felt that good.

    Root Canal Before Vsg?

Not that it's exactly comparable, but I ended up with a double ear infection 10 days out and ended a round of antibiotics the day before surgery. I was totally fine. The NSAID pain relievers are the ones they want us to avoid because they thin the blood I think. If you could get something other than a NSAID for the pain it might be ok. I'd call and ask the surgeon's office. They might even be able to suggest something.
  4. I think surgeons might not be too surprised at the weight gain over the holidays. Have you called them to ask about it? You might call and express your concern about the weight gain and ask if that's going to slow you down to surgery. Why worry about something you don't even know is an issue? Let me tell you something crazy. I went in for my pre-op appointment on Thursday and my weight was up a pound and a few ounces from my first appt in September (it was 267.4). I had to do liquids only on Sunday and when I arrive to weigh in at the hospital I weighed 254.6. WTH in four days? The only thing I can think is the liquids helped all the solids pass through my system and then the fasting the night before had me a little low on fluids. When I got home from the hospital I was 268 on my scale which is always a bit lighter than the Dr it seems. This morning I was 250 on my scale... =)

So Sick Of Clear Liquids Already!

oh wow, I had one week clear and am in a week of full liquids (no milk) and next week I get soft foods. I think week four is pretty broad and close to full foods except for bread, pasta and rice. It's amazing how different each surgical group approaches post- op eating. I also only had ond day of liquids prior to surgery and no pre-diet.
  7. I started feeling hungry on Saturday and it's definitely worse when I'm around food. I'm taking in lots of liquids I think it's just the 300 calorie a day max that was taking its tole. It could be cravings too, who knows? I'll be happy to get some Greek yogurt next week. This week I'm supposed to be able to eat thinned cream of wheat or instant oatmeal and I don't even want to bother because of the straight carb calories.
  8. Oh an egg sounds divine! I just started full liquids week two (minus milk) and I've been thinking about deviled eggs, thinking that might be a decent first egg dish. I've been a little surprised at how easily any fluids move through. In the hospital the nurses were irritated at how little I was drinking, but all I'd heard was sip, sip, sip and not to take in more than a third of a cup at a time. They were bringing me two cups at least at a time. Good luck with the solids!
  9. Good luck with your surgery! I hope it goes great!
  10. I'm on full liquids today and let me tell you, butternut squash soup has NEVER tasted so good!!

    Happy To Be Here

Hi Brian, I had surgery a week ago today. I think my experience could be textbook perfect. I didn't have any drains, and have had no incision trouble. I did experience some nausea for the first 18 hours after I woke up but that was controlled well with meds and I haven't experienced any vomiting at all. I hope your experience is excellent too! Good luck!

    My Vsg Journey Has Begun!

Welcome Courtney! My insurance didn't require a pre-op diet but at 40, I'd been dieting since I was 9 years old. I'm just starting week two post-op but I'm very pleased do far. I think I had a darned near perfect surgery experience too. I hope yours goes as well! Good luck!
  14. I agree! I'd be THRILLED to go down that much in two months!! Great job!
  15. Dr Kelvin Higa at Fresno Heart & Surgical Hospital, Fresno, CA. Dr Higa- fantastic. I couldn't have asked for an easier experience. my potassium was low and the four bags they gave me weren't fun but that wasn't his fault! Mostly cardiac and WLS it seems at this hospital so there aren't sick people around. private rooms with a fold out chair if you have someone stay with you.
  16. Me too! I'm new to my sleeve but I'd like to shoot for 220- I'm 255 on my home scale just now. 30 pounds seems so unreal...

  19. I was really lucky this week (post-op week) that my mom took care of feeding my son. I just prepared his first meal entirely myself since surgery Monday. My son has been pretty good about being careful with my tummy. he lifts up my shirt and says "oh, my poor momma". It's pretty funny. I've only felt hungry in the last two days but it's been a huge help to have someone else deal with the food.

    Craving Badly

I had a birthday party today and as I'm only 6 days post-op, I couldn't have anything- not even iced tea because it wasn't decaf! Having my darling son kiss me with his little frosting and cake coated lips was torture. Yesterday the smell that had me crazy was popcorn. Tomorrow I get to add some foods but still another week of liquids. I'm not going to complain much though because I'm loosing well and might even make it to 20lbs when I see the surgeon on Thursday.
  21. royboy said it for me- I have so much time on my hands now that I can't eat! I think I was pretty informed. My mom had GBS when I was young and my aunt and cousin have more recently had GBS so I feel like I knew what I was getting myself into. I'm a pretty recent surgery and have just begun to feel hungry. I'll be happy to add some more foods next week - even pureed things! They have greek yogurt popsicles at Costco... need to check that out! Hopefully they aren't full of sugar!
  22. me too. my sleeve is very new but I've noticed I have a harder time falling asleep and wake more in the night. this morning I was up at about 4am.
  23. good to hear! do glad things have turned around for you!!
