5 Months Out, 103 Lbs Down!

That's so great! Congratulations on all your hard work!
  5. I'm so, so, so glad I had this done. I'm 40, 5'7" and started at 268 (Dr. has my start at 266). I'm on 88mcg Levothyroxine and have been on thyroid meds for about 5 years. I've been dieting since I was 9 years old. I bought a bunch of stuff too and have most of a flat of vitawater zero I'll probably never drink, a box of sugarfree popsicles that will only get used if I cave in and give my son artifically sweetened junk. I might go through the popsicles when it gets hot, but for now they're taking up space in my small freezer. The things that I loved best were strained progresso Soups, progresso makes a chicken broth that has rosemary, thyme and basil- it's pretty "herby" tasting but I really liked it mixed with the progresso soups. Same for vegetable broth from Trader Joes. These liquids aren't always totally clear but they're what my surgeon's group suggested. You will do great! You've got a gorgeous little baby (profile pic?) you want to chase around - trust me I know - my son is 3 and I'm so tired of trying to run after him and have tons of excess flab bounce around! I plan to swim with him this summer!
  6. Congratulations on your new sleeve! There are many new sleeves posting so you'll have many to share the journey with! Welcome!

    Three Weeks Post-Op

I'm sorry you're hurting. I'm pain free unless my toddler manages to get an accidental jab or kick into one of my incision sites. Hope you feel better soon! I've been using my treadmill at home too and it's been great. Good luck!

    Bougie? (Mispelled)

I don't know either. All I know is he took 85%. When he said he was taking 85% my friend who drove me about fell off her chair!
  11. Can you call your surgeon's office? My surgeon doesn't recommend protein shakes at all. His philosophy is that they just slow weight loss and if one is heavy enough for this surgery they have enough reserves to last them for some time. Each surgeon or group seems to have their own method.
  12. I too had some pretty bad nausea the first 18 hours. I just wanted to sleep and the nurses are trained to get you up and walking. I was also confused about the volume of fluids I could take in at once do the nurses were also not happy about what I was taking in and weren't happy with the amount of urin I produced. It will get better! I joe it gets better soon for you!
  13. I just had the most substantial food I've had so far- made myself some egg salad with two eggs, a little yogurt and mustard. it went down totally fine and I was thinking to myself that I might finish it but all of a sudden something clicked and I knew that was the last bite! I'm about two tablespoons shy of finishing so it probably was 1/3 cup.
  14. my surgeon doesn't want any milk for the first two weeks. I saw the PA on day 11 and she cleared me to try lactose free milk. it went fine for me 11 days out.

    Goodbye 50's, Hello 40's! (Bmi)

    Awesome!! What a fantastic accomplishment!
  17. I see many people post that their surgeons want them to loose weight ( as much as 10% of excess) prior to surgery. I'm glad my surgeon didn't have anything like that. They didn't want to see a huge jump in weight prior to surgery but didn't require me to loose. Sorry... I completely understand where you're coming from!
  18. I had a nurse tell me to thump on my chest if anything got caught and that should help dislodge it and it'll fall down. I've not had to try that yet thankfully. I hope you're feeling better!

    Birthday Tomorrow!

Happy Birthday! What a great way to start out a new year!
  20. I started week three today and I got to add: yogurt, cottage cheese, tofu, re-fried Beans, mashed potato, lactose free milk, sugar free low calorie pudding, mashed hard boiled eggs. I think there might be one or two other things but that's pretty close. I have that for the next two weeks. I made myself some pumpkin tofu custard, greek yogurt does down just fine and I made some vegetarian chili that I plan to puree. I tried last night but the yellow split peas weren't totally mushy yet. I also plan to do a little egg salad with yogurt instead of mayo.

    How Do You Do It?

I have a three year old son and fortunately, I didn't have to cook for him for almost a week after surgery. My mom was doing his food prep. Since I've gone back to cooking for him (little over a week) it's not been so bad. It's weird to not taste what I'm cooking for him but he's usually a meat, veggie, fruit kind of kid. I make mostly chicken or pork chop for him and he loves canned green beans or fresh carrots, grapes and strawberries. Once in a while he asks for noodles or mac & cheese.
  22. and I'm down 16+ lbs! They want to see me in two weeks again. it seems they follow sleevers a little closer than GBS. At least I got an afternoon appointment so I can work half day.

    January 2012 Sleevers!

I had some tightness at a couple of the incision sites and it took a couple nights before I could sleep comfortably on my left side. I'm not sure which incision they took my stomach out of. the nurse told me one thing but that can't be right because that spot is one of the smaller lines. The two closest to my belly button are healing slower.
  24. 5 feet 7+ inches 268 start weight size 2X and 22s were getting tight I'm 3 weeks out tomorrow and down 20lbs to 248. My clothes are feeling much nicer and the rolls, especially around my bra are getting smaller. I think I'll need to get down closer to 235 or less to change sizes.

    Liquid Diet

I was very confused about this post-op in the hospital. All I'd heard was sip and no more than an ounce but my nurses kept getting on my case about not drinking all they were putting in front of me. My first meal was a little cup of apple juice, a Popsicle, a jello and about 1 cup of broth. What on earth was I supposed to do with all that? I didn't tolerate sweet at all but they finally told me that I needed to sip but that liquids go right through so I should take in as much liquid as was comfortable. So my approach was take it slow but I stick with the 64-100oz of liquids per day.
