    June 2007 Bandsters

I'm new to the June group. I got banded Tuesday. I'm feeling OK w/ little pain and no nausea but I am struggling with gas. I am trying to walk as much as possible which helps. Rx antacid and OTC anti-gas meds help some but not alot. I'm not a bit hungry. I have to make myself eat broth and drink water. I feel like I just swallowed a Thanksgiving turkey most of the time. I'm looking forward to getting over the bloated feeling. Did others deal with that too? How long did it last? Any suggestions on how to get over it? By the way...I am a man...but I can change...if I have to...I guess. Adventure-Rider

    Very bad shoulder pain

My doc told me I could expect some shoulder pain associated with gas. I've had plenty of gas but little or no shoulder pain. I'm going on my 4th day post-op and I am not a bit hingry. In fact I feel like I've just eaten an entire Thanksgiving turkey all my myself. I'm looking forward to getting rid of this bloated stuffed feeling. If I could I'd feel pretty good as I'm having very little pain otherwise. Others have advised me to walk-walk-walk and that definitely seems to help. The broth mixed with the mashed spuds sounds good. Good luck!
  3. I got banded yesterday and I'm home today. The procedure went well. The surgeon discovered and repaired a hiatal hernia which should take care of the reflux I've had. Like almost everyone following surgery, I'm having some gas pain but it's not unbearable. I also have some soreness around the port and the inisions but I am tolerating that OK too. I appreciate all the advice about walking to releive the gas pain. My wife and I are going to walk to the drugstore to pick up my meds. Good luck to everyone that has been recently banded and continued success to those that have been at it awhile. I have a 350 lb. uncle that I hope to be an inspiration to. Adventure-Rider
  4. I was a relatively low BMI patient at just under 40. The main reasons I chose the band is that I wanted to permanently lower my BP and cholesterol enough to get off of my meds. I also have sleep apnea and have used a CPAP every night for over 5 years and I would like to lose enough weight to be able to sleep without it. Does anyone have experience with being able to accomplish these goals? Adventure-Riser

    I need some friends!!!

I got banded yesterday and I just got home. Everything went well with no complications. They discovered a hiatal hernia while they were installing the band so the repaired that as well. I have some discomfort with gas pains and some soreness around the incisions but so far so good.

    Optimistic

I am considering Lap Band surgery and going through the pre-surgery qualification process. I am optimistic about the prospect of substantial long-term weight loss. I know quite a few people that have had gastric by-pass with mixed results and significant and even fatal complications. I don't think I would ever consider that option but I like the less invasive aspects of the Lap Band. Any advise anyone could offer a "seeker" would be welcome.
