  1. How awesome is it to hit a goal, an impressive one at that in just six months? You look amazing, keep on doing whatever it is that you are doing because it is working! Congrats! ....I can't imagine being in clothing that is defined by a single digit...you now have me thinking why the heck not? Thanks!
  2. What a perfect baby bump! I have read your story, what an inspiration! Thanks so much for sharing Good luck!
  3. Wowza! You look amazing...you look soo much younger! What a bonus to look forward to, losing the weight to add years to our lives and looking younger too. I am so excited by the possibilities!
  4. hello there! Yes the sip sip sip can be a challenge, your body is used to auto pilot and being able to gulp down a mouthful of anything. My tummy gives me grumbles usually the first sip or two and then if am full. As annoying as it may be at times I look at it this way; I can't go back and redo this if I screw it up. Patience is not my strong suit at all LOL, but in this I will be patience personified. If I am told to sip, sip it will be! The soreness will pass in a few days; my surgeon told me that they insert a lot of air on top of the stomach and it stretches the muscles quite a bit. He says that it feels like doing sit ups for three days straight. I am 6 days post op now and last night was the first time that i was able to sleep on my side for a bit, whoo hoo! Continue to take your pain meds if you need them, keeping on top of the pain is better than waiting until you are miserable. Rest and relax until you see your surgeon two weeks out. Good luck!

    Vomiting=leakage??

I was really worried about the upper GI that they scheduled for the morning after surgery. I just couldn't imagine that the first "food" so to speak, in my new tummy was going to be barium! They gave me a Water soluble Isopure drink first while doing a live screen shot to check for leaks. Then they had me take a small swallow of barium, looked again at the screen, had me turn a different direction and take another small swallow. A few minutes later it was a hard copy x-ray and I was done! I have been fortunate that i do not have nausea and vomiting so maybe I have a tougher tummy than some or I am just one of the lucky ones, I know that I feel blessed. Good luck!
  6. Happy Birthday to you too, my sleeve date was the 27th as well! Like you I am doing so well, no complications, no nausea and vomiting. Learning to listen to new tummy noises and signals is interesting LOL! Good Luck to you and welcome to the losers bench!

    Looking for Feedback

Today is post -surgery day #4; I would do this all over without hesitation! I have/had the same co-morbidities as you...add in hypothyroidism, arthritis in lower spine and a host of other issues. A good WLS has a wonderful, informed staff that will be able to answer any/all of your questions both pre an post surgery and this forum and others will be a great feedback support system. I was in the hospital for 2+ days instead of overnight due to my nurse not paying attention to my doctors orders for my first round of Clear liquids. My doctors team was not comfortable releasing me until they saw how i tolerated processing clear liquids. For most people, the biggest side effect from surgery is usually nausea and vomiting so they want to make sure they send you home tolerating clear liquids. Two things I didn't expect...having to really pay attention to my daytime nurse as she seemed to have a focusing/staying on task issue; my night nurse was an angel sent straight from God so it made up for it LOL. The other thing was how sore my stomach muscles were. My doctor said that a lot of his patients say it feels like they did three days of continuous sit ups and I felt that was so true! I still can't sleep on my side, but movement (getting in and out of chairs, bed) is getting easier. Good luck!

    Vitamin question

My physicians team told me the same; do not bring in any of your meds. I started my Celebrate Complete Multivitamin after I got home. I was told not to take anything other supplements (Vitamin C, etc) until after I see my Dr for the 15 day post-surgery appointment. Good luck!
  9. I was weighed right before surgery on Tuesday at 251 lbs and just twelve hours later my nurse had me step on the scale during a walk around the ward...259 lbs! Yikes! All fluids from IV's and surgery. This morning, three days post op? Back down to 251 lbs. Whew! Like the others have said, it will come off soon!
  10. Hi there, I am only three days out, but I am not hungry at all. I get pains in my belly that i am associating more with gas than anything else. I wasn't released until 3pm yesterday so my first attempt at Protein was last night, I got about 10 grams in. Today I have already gotten 48 grams with my unjury chicken soup and a Chilke strawberry Protein powder shake. I pour each ounce in one of the ounce size plastic cups I got in the hospital and sip, slooowwly LOL. I start getting a bit of a burpy feeling and know that I need to slow down or take a break. My body told me pretty quickly what it would be ok with. Hope taht this helps!
  11. Wow, time flies when you are having fun...not so much when you are in the hospital LOL. Surgery Tuesday morning went great, Dr. Ali was really pleased. It took most of the afternoon to get into a room, but I was settled in by 2:30 or 3:00. Moving about was difficult, so hard just to push yourself up in bed. My doctor told me that the way that they push air into the abdominal cavity to do the surgery actually stretches all the muscles and makes you feel like you have been doing sit ups for three days straight; so true! Gas pains were horrible, but not unexpected. I was able to get up and walk a bit the first night and was doing laps yesterday morning after they took the catheter out (isn"t that such a relief?). Got some broth and Jello for Breakfast and was able to eat most of it. I m learning that if my pain is under control, I am able to eat without getting nauseous. They kept me an additional night because my white blood cell count was up a bit and they wanted a re-test to make sure I didn't have a UTI or something worse. Everything looked good yesterday so I got to come home! I have been very fortunate, no nausea or vomiting, passing gas before I even left the hospital, able to get around and get my liquids in. I feel so blessed. thank you all for your support, it was felt!

    I took before pics...

I know how you feel! I took my before pic and took my measurements today...surgery is scheduled for Tuesday, the 27th and it can't come fast enough! Good luck!
  14. Good for you, I am going to be sleeved on the 27th as well! I am looking forward to paying with my 4 month old grandson...right now getting up off of the floor without crawling over to a piece of furniture for leverage in getting up is almost impossible. I can't wait to walk like a regular person and not feel like I am shuffling along. I can't imagine what it will be like for my body to react as quickly as my mind wants it too LOL! Good luck Tuesday!

    Liquid Diet

Hi there, I am a fellow 9/27 sleever too! My doctor only requires a 2 day clear liquid diet before surgery so today is my first day. I have been drinking Isopure Protein in Passion Fruit, Sobe lite drinks, unjury chicken Soup and my favorite lime green Jello is a staple. I am a bit surprised that i am not flipping out as it is a Football Sunday with cool temps out (finally!) and the normal chips and salsa, chili in the crockpot are absent today. Maybe I am really ready...we'll see if this attitude prevails for me by Tuesday morning LOL! Good Luck Tuesday!
  16. I have a surgeon that will not even send a patients info in for insurance approval until he has a sleep study in hand. If the study comes up positive he will not proceed until after a CPAP is being used and a second sleep study done. Some surgeons have very strict guidelines that they follow and others are more lenient it seems. I can tell you that being diagnosed with Sleep Apnea was one of my biggest fears; I have a huge phobia of having ANYTHING near my nose or mouth! I was really sweating out the results...thank goodness the test was negative. I wish you the best!
  17. Hi everyone! I am sitting here in shocked surprise that I have a surgery date on Sept 27th. My initial consultation with my surgeon was on August 26th and I had my appointments with both the NUT and the Psychologist within 10 days. Everyone kept pointing out that I was being "fast tracked" but I had no idea it would be 30 days from start to finish! Talk about whirlwind LOL! It's funny, I looked into WLS two years ago and decided that having Gastric Bypass was just not for me. I could not get past the malabsorption, long list of potential complications and giving up the NSAIDS that save my sanity in dealing with the arthritis in my lower back. Since then my co-morbidities have multiplied to include diabetes, and I have put on an additional 35 pounds; walking is no longer just a normal thing to do. I have more aches and pains than my 81 year old mother and I am only 49! I was surfing the net one day and found this forum, decided to ask for another referral from my primary for a bariatric consult...that was the end of July. Dr. Ali (UC Davis Center of Excellence) agreed that a bypass was out of the question because of the NSAID use and also having IBS; he said VSG was just what the doctor ordered LOL. I had the group meeting the second week of August and everything has fallen into place easily, almost too easily. I keep telling myself that it is because it was meant to be this time, that right now was my time to take charge and make the decision that will not only save my life but give me the quality of life I so desperately want. I don't care about being a size 7 again, I just want to get down on the floor with my grandson and not have to crawl over to a piece of furniture to pull my 260 lbs off the dang floor! There are so many brave souls here...thanks for sharing, you are making me braver for all the positive support that you give each other. Smiles!
