How To Find Peace With Your Sleeve When Over 50!
mamasez replied to SandSandles's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'll hit the big 5-0 next month, and man oh man, is it different losing weight now than in my past! I am exercising but not at the intensity level I did in the past. The years of doing heavy aerobics, running with weight on me, wearing cheapo high heels and such have caused aching knees & feet so the exercise changed due to those factors as well as my age. I am sure the losing & regaining large amounts of weight has messed up my metabolism as well. I am just over 7 mo's post sleeve op, have lost 84 lbs and slowed to what feels like a crawl. But, truth be told, I have not been as strict w/ low carbing, sweets, etc as of late. Reading ur post helps motivate me! Thanks for posting & hang in there. If we eat right (protein first!) and move our bodies, we WILL be successful! -
Finally! Stall Is Broken.
mamasez replied to Lissa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yay!!! What a relief to see those scale #s going down again. We try to be reasonable, celebrating the NSVs as they come, but we honestly do love it when that scale shows a lower #. It's sooo energizing! Congrats! -
Milk Intolerance
mamasez replied to ValerieSJackson's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 months out, can eat regular cheeses and cottage cheese, but milk based protein shakes make me very sick to this day. I don't love the taste but supplement my protein intake with Isopure Zero Carb ready to drink "clear" drinks. They are pricey, but cut my hunger big time. Good luck! Leah -

8 Mos Out And Gaining Weight
mamasez replied to Rebel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hope things are looking up for you. I am almost 7 months out & the past few weeks I haven't lost, teally. Actually, I have lost & gained .5 of a lb the past few weeks. Haven't been as careful about what I have eaten, but still tracking calories and carbs, trying to continue the Protein first rule. I have kicked up the exercise (I do much better when I exercise first thing in the morning) so am hoping that will get my pound #s down. I have continued to go down in clothes suze, but not dropping poundage. Just wanted to let you knowvy ou are not alone in the ongoing struggle. We must continually remind ourselves that eating right and exercising is something we must continue to do because we are worth the effort. So sorry about your brother. Forgive my typing... on my phone. Leah. P.S. NEVER GIVE UP ON YOURSELF! You are stronger than you know. -
Surgery Today...please Pray For Me!
mamasez replied to beautifulnewme2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Praying for u! -
Yes, one day at a time is what can help keep u sane. My hubby was deployed (navy) for 7 months when we'd only been married for 3 months. Then there were several other short and long trips out to sea after that as well. He also had many trips away for special ops that weren't sea related. It was hard and I was lonely, even with support from my military friends. I found thst working out helped with my stress and the feelings of depression and the unknown when he was gone to the persian gulf in desert storm. Find something to keep yourself busy and maybe journal your feelings. I will keep you in my prayers. Leah

I never had motion sickness pre-op, but I do now. After my surgery last Oct, it was really bad. It has gotten better but it is still there, especially when riding in my hubby's pickup truck. It isn't as bad if I sit in the back seat. I can't even watch people on rides at the fair or six flags theme park.... makes me feel woozy! I think it will get better as time goes forward.

Anxiety! This Is Madness....
mamasez replied to NisaletOAM's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The best thing abt the sleeve is that you WILL be able to eat those things in the future, just much less of them. You will go thru a period of months post op where you won't be able to (or want to for that matter) but eventually you will. So don't let your mind fool you. I would replace at least one meal a day with a hi protein, lo carb shake, eat mostly lean protein and veggies in reasonable portions for dinner and start drinking tons and tons of water. Start getting used to finding something to do with yourself when the cravings hit bc they can return post op. Good luck! -
On Way To Surgery... Please Pray For Me!
mamasez replied to Felicity549's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This will pass. Hopefully soon. You can sip water & spit it out if it is making you sick when you swallow. Hang in there! -
Good luck getting it sorted out. Sending a prayer up for you. Hang in there, hon.

May I please add one final comment? Until yesterday, I have tried to keep any negative thoughts about particular posts to myself, trying to ignore the negative speak that can sometimes be found on forums. However, yesterday I allowed myself to flap my jaws and defend "men" since I find it unfair to lump groups of people together as one "type." IMO, one post in this thread was particularly harsh and uncalled for, but it is the poster's right to voice that opinion, afterall. We all want support and understanding here and everyone should get it here. I apologize if my initial comment may have caused anyone to feel otherwise. Why is it ok to go from supporting a sleeve sister here to all out man bashing? All men are NOT "notoriously lazy" stupid, unable to expess themselves, evil a-holes! Wow! I'm sorry your feelings are hurt, thinoneday, but some of the nasty responses about "men" here have been ugly and harsh. None of us knows what your husband really meant or why he made that comment. But to condemn "men" is NOT fair. All men are not the same.

6 Months Post Op, 68 Lbs Lost, And A New Hole Between My Legs!
mamasez replied to Queen of Crop's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
"it is so hard to not be in control" Is any one of us really in control? I don't bellieve so. If we were, we wouldn't be overweight. I think you are smart for thinkiing this thru carefully. You don't sound like you are ready to change your life. Don't get me wrong, I am thrilled with my sleeve. I am down 79 lbs in 6 months. It just sounds like you would rather stay the same with the weight induced issues you have now than to take an educated chance on a life changing opportunity. I don't mean to sound harsh, just honest. I do have a few new issues since the sleeve. I don't like taking pills and I must. I have had to figure out how to better manage my reflux (and I have). I do now want to exercise because my feet and knees and back don't hurt so badly now. And then theres all the new clothes I have to buy (what a shame, JK), not being ashamed to go out or travel and so forth. Queen of Crop, sorry, didn't mean to hijack your thread. And congrats on your fabulous progress! I love following your success especially since our surgery dates are so close (I was sleeved Oct 17, 2011) . I just had to respond that we humans perceiving it is US who are in control..... I don't think so. That's precisely why the sleeve is such a heavenly tool for us! Leah -
I can't use the powders (no matter what they are mixed with) post-op. The milky RTD drinks also make me physically ill. The Isopure Zero Carb is the only non food protein source that my sleeve tolerates. Is it yummy? Hell to the no! Does it help me get closer to my healthy me goal? YES! Clean protein + zero carbs + liquid EQUALS success!
