44 year old male, father of two, 21 year old and a 13 month old. I gained weight after being diagnosed and treated for colon cancer at the ripe old age of 23. I trained 5 days a week, was 180lbs and was at the top of my game. After my cancer surgery, I had chemo for one year, I was told, "We don't know if you will be alive in a year, or five years, if you live 7 years, you are considered cured."
WOW, talk about a kick to the soul. SO, after chemo, I decided to do what I want, when I want and consequences be damned. No more running 3-5 miles a day and living in the gym for 2 hours, it was all about eating what I wanted and doing everything I wanted. I lived a life that people only dream of, by day I was a professional in the law enforcement field, by night I was a man flirting with the razors edge of sanity and behavior that showed it.
Fast forward 7 years, "Congratulation, you are considered cured." Okayyyyyy, what the hell do I do now? I'm 120 pounds heavier and I am going to live. Instead of being thrilled, I felt like someone just ripped the mask off of Batman.
7 years became 10 and I still couldnt drop weight. My metabolism was screwed up about as bad as my knees and back. One divorce and a remarriage later, I have a BEAUTIFUL 13 month old baby boy and I made a promise to him, my wife and myself, "I promise to lose this weight, so I can spend as much time with you as humanly possible."
Attended the Diabetic classes and "Lighten Up" classes required by Blue Cross and FINALLY got approved despite the incompetence of my primary care doctor.
So, now I have a surgical date of 04OCT11, that's right, next week and boy am I scared, LOL!
That's my story, everybody has one and this one is mine.
Take care,
Bob
