This doesn't seem normal to me. I am two years out and if a person did not already know that I've been sleeved, they would not guess by watching me eat. I can eat a whole sandwich if the filling is not dense Protein, or a bowl of Soup or chili, or a slice of pan pizza. There are only a handful of foods I should avoid because they make me uncomfortable, but I have only thrown up twice in the two years. Lettuce is one of the things that I can't eat. I have no suggestions for you except to see your surgeon. Wishing you the best, and let us know how you get along.

You're in great hands! Best of luck!

How's it going two to five years out?
kyllfalcon replied to Rogofulm's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm two years out and holding steady at my desired weight. I am always mindful that regain can happen. I repeat, mindful, not worried. I weigh every day, and of course I see fluctuations of a pound or two. When that pound sticks around more than a couple of days, I make sure it goes away NOW before it turns into two pounds. I've said many times on this forum that the sleeve works if you do. Keeping the weight off comes from the desire and commitment to keep it off. There are lots of folks, like your friends, who can lose weight but will regain. There are also lots of folks who lose weight and keep it off. I intend to be one of the latter. -
About two weeks before surgery he has you go on a protein shake diet. He permits addition of solid lean protein in moderation to help keep you satisfied, such as meat at dinner. He is very reasonable in all his requirements.

Veterans: Do you follow the rules?
kyllfalcon replied to EarthyGoalie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am two years out and don't follow the rules, but like Queen of Crop, I eat sensibly. I no longer track Protein and carbs, but I remain aware of the general balance that I should maintain. I do eat sweets daily, and have a couple of alcoholic drinks on Saturday evening. I never eat a big meal, but have several small meals each day. I have never had the soda habit. If I tracked I think I would find that I eat more carbs than I think. Fortunately, I have no desire for rich fatty foods such as cheeseburgers, fries, milkshakes. I'll take a baked sweet potato, please. I have no trouble at this point maintaining my desired weight, which is a few pounds over the recommended BMI. I have a ridiculously high metabolism, and I've said here before how embarrassing that is because it means I really had to work hard to get so heavy! Unfortunately, I have yet to hit the first lick of exercise (hangs head in shame...). -
I lost weight and continue to maintain by eating all day every day. Like you, I am always hungry. I never lost hunger, even immediately after surgery. I am almost two years out, and frequent snacking is my way of life. I don't worry about it. It has worked for me so far.

Yes, I have changed between the ears, and in a good way. Like you, I smile a lot more. I am no longer preoccupied with what people see when they look at me, or what that think when they see me. I no longer find excuses to avoid people who haven't seen me in a long time. I am no longer dealing with the physical limitations that made me uncomfortable with the slightest exertion, or the embarrassment of things like getting stuck in a diner booth. Know what else? I can barely remember what it was like to be large. I've moved on. But I don't even regret having been large, because everything that I have done and everything that has happened to me make me the person I am today. And I like that person. And that is proof that I have changed between the ears.

some big changes in my life... stress and maintaining

Wow! You are one mature, grounded person! You will be just fine. -
regreting this whole thing
kyllfalcon replied to ********'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While you have lost some weight, you are still a very good distance from goal. Your body shape will change countless times between now and then. I am over a year out and mine is still changing. At first I was scrawny, now my hips and thighs are filling out a little while my tummy keeps reducing - which means I'm getting my curves back!!!! I think you're just in a funk - give it some time... -
Oh, yeah??? Well, I'm one of those you'd like to punch. But I want to punch all these people who LIKE to exercise!! Y'see, in another similar thread I just read through, they called us "skinny fat people", and that smarts, because it's true! I didn't exercise. I don't exercise. I hate exercise. I tell myself I will exercise. I don't and won't exercise. See? Even though some of lost readily without exercise, we are still tortured souls... cut us some slack!

You look freakin' awesome!!!

No, No!! That's the Hanky panky the other poster mentioned... Get your dances straight, laura-ven!!

The Tanita brand scales measure your weight, body fat, body water, lean muscle, visceral fat, etc. They are not cheap, but not crazy expensive either. This is the same brand used in my surgeon's office, but their particular model is fancier. You can set up multiple users for some of the models. I got mine from Amazon and we both really like it.

It was about 2 or 3 weeks for me.

Whether PTO will be required is a company-specific issue. The law simply states that the employer may require the employee to use accrued paid time off. You will be much better served to ask HR in your company, as they will have the answers you need. All anyone on this forum can tell you is how it was in their company, which is of no use to you.

Teeth correction needed as a VSG vet?
kyllfalcon replied to Fiddleman's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I was not taught good dental hygiene as a child, and that coupled with weak enamel, led to massive work at age 19. Since then, and I am now 60, I have taken extremely good care of my teeth and gums. Obviously I lacked in other areas, such as weight control. I say do what you must to get the smile you want and deserve. You are still young at 40, not old!! You still have a good 40-50 years left if things go as they should. Nothing is more noticeable yo me than bad or sparse teeth! Call today!! -
keep having feelings of regrets
kyllfalcon replied to toy27's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The breakouts can be caused by a high protein diet. I experienced breakouts during the first few months, and I am old and dried up! Until then I had not had a zit in decades! It will pass. Just like all the other maladies you are experiencing. -
Forget tall and handsome!! Focus on character and nature!! My former husband was tall and handsome, well-educated, made lots of money, had "presidential" hair. But he was controlling and cold-hearted, could not give praise, affection, support, and was a lousy lover and withheld his lousy lovemaking as punishment for any perceived infraction. Current husband and soul mate is short, built like a roll of sausage, not much hair, weak chin, very intellectual and intelligent, was a philosophy major but due to financial and family challenges did not obtain a college degree. Doesn't make a lot of money either. BUT he is the kindest, most gentle man I've ever met. He is always supportive, no matter what, and treats me like a goddess/queen. And that little man knows how to curl your toes and doesn't know when to stop... if you know what I mean... I couldn't be happier with my short stubby little fellow, who is the smartest person I know but doesn't have the paper to prove it.

thinning and loss of hair
kyllfalcon replied to kelkel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair was very thick, and in spite of crazy Protein intake and Biotin supplements, I experienced thinning hair. However, it finally stopped and it has grown back. At the time it was a major crisis - It's just a fuzzy memory now. Just give it time, it will right itself. -
Do I really need to go to my 3 month post-op Dr. appointment.
kyllfalcon replied to Joe I's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Are you sure your PCP did ALL the bloodwork the surgeon's office would do? My surgeon's office performs very detailed blood work for vitamins, iron, etc. that my normal blood work does not include. Given that we are prone to B12, D and K deficiencies I wouldn't skip my follow-ups for anything! I intend to keep mine through at least two years, if not longer.
