Has Anyone Ever "failed" At This?

Four days is not quite a stall. More like two weeks or more. It takes time for bodies to adjust, it takes time to lose so much weight. It is totally unrealistic to expect weight loss every single day, even with the marvelous procedure we've had. Even I, who has never experienced a true stall, and who is the most impatient person on the planet, know I cannot expect a loss every day, or even every other day, or even every week. If it happens, great! If not, it will soon.
  2. Pipula, please take no offense, and I apologize if I missed it in your referenced article, but I don't find the answer to rootman's question there. He is asking HOW the edges of the stomach heal when the raw or wounded edges are not touching. The article explains howthe raw or wounded edges might NOT heal, as far as I can tell. Or did I miss something? Yes, inquiring minds do need to know! Rootman, I thought they also used some sort of adhesive? Or did I dream that up?

Just Got My Bill From The Hospital...

I work with insurance frequently as the Director of Human Resources for my firm. I was self-pay and my single bill was around $18,000. I was told that if I had insurance coverage the health care providers would have billed the insurance company roughly $50,000. Ridiculous.
  4. Don't have a picture, but they let me see it. It kinda looked like I expected, a long slender stomach. Bigger than the colon, but not much.

    Hair Loss @ 2 Months

I didn't even start losing hair until about 6 -7 months out! I thought I would sidestep it, but no! I was eating over 100 grams of Protein and taking all the supplements and Biotin, and still it happened. My surgeon's office said it was just plain unavoidable, that everyone loses their hair, some more noticeably than others. Sigh... but a small trade off, in my opinion!

    Hairloss After Operation?

It is normal regardless of how much Protein you take in. I was taking in over 100 grams and my hair is still falling out. Contrary to what the previous poster's doctor assistant said, mine said it is so commonplace in all patients it seems to be unavoidable! Guess it's just a difference of opinions in the medical community. But I thought because I am so hairy all over with a head of really thick hair that if I ate enough protein I could avoid hair loss. Not.

    What Size Is Your Sleeve?

Didn't listen when my surgeon said what size thingy he uses. But I believe my stomach must be longer than most because I can eat more than most. And still lose weight! How awesome is THAT??

    Too Heavy For My Knees

Proudgranny, just one pound to go?? WOW! Congratulations!
  9. Absolutely. My BMI was 39-something with a long list of comorbidities. Even without the comorbidities I would have done it. Not one regret. But then, I am one of the lucky ones who had no complications and can eat almost anything, and in slightly larger quantities than most. I still enjoy food, some don't. But, yes, absolutely, I would do it.

    Women Only Question

While in ketosis in the early days, I definitely had a strong odor from the south. And I am post-menopause. That is gone now. So is the fat!!

    Im Starving..

I agree with the other poster. You probably need to take one of the mentioned medications. They really help with stomach acid, which feels just like hunger. Having said that, I've tried them all and I have experienced true hunger since the surgery. The meds help, but they don't entirely relieve the situation. Good luck!

    Im Starving..

We need more information. How far out are you? What else are you eating? How much? When? Are you taking any stomach meds?

    Thanksgiving Went Great

Yay for you! I did not do anything special such as eat lighter before or after, and I did nibble a little here and there as I cooked, and I still lost a portion of a pound! Truthfully, I used to eat half the pecans that weren't used. This time, I only ate three, that was all I wanted! I ate what I wanted during the main meal, I ate dessert, I ate leftovers. I had my dinner last Sunday, long story, so I've had almost a week to see results, good or bad, and so far so good! This sleeve thing is great, no?

    19Days Post-Op And Stalled

I don't know that I'd call just 4 days a stall. A week? maybe. Two weeks, ok, I'd call that a stall. Could it be your TOM causing some Water weight? Eating salty Soups?

    Please Help!

That's only four weeks. There have been so many posts asking the same question! You just had major surgery and your caloric intake is severly restricted. You will bounce back, it just takes time. I went back to work after three weeks, but low energy. Every week it improved until about week 6 or so when I felt better again. Now 8 months out I never tire. Truly.

    Dumping On Thanksgiving, No Bueno

Well, did some quick research. Seems it does happen with VSG, but very rare. Thank goodness!! Doesn't sound like a lot of fun!

    Dumping On Thanksgiving, No Bueno

I've never dumped. I may be ignorant, but I thought dumping was associated with the bypass, not the sleeve. I have slimed after eating too much or something too greasy, where saliva just poured out of my face. I felt sick, but not very, just a little. I only let that happen twice, learned my lesson. Truly, it sounds like a stomach bug to me. What do the rest of you think?

    Am I The Only One?

I was sleeved on March 14, 2012 at the age of 59. I am within 10 pounds of goal! I was so worried that I was too old for all this, but "all this" has made me feel at least 20 years younger, if not more! I was so slow, out of breath, hot, tired and anxious. Now I zip around, never get out of breath, haven't broken a sweat in months and smile all the time! People are always commenting about the change they see in me. I was so very lucky not to have any complications from the surgery. I was so worried that I would develop a distaste for food, that I would no longer enjoy cooking, that the lifestyle change might affect my wonderful marriage. None of that was true. I am able to eat almost anything I want, just in limited quantities of course, but those quantities are actually greater than I supposed. I only avoid very greasy foods, white soft bread, raw onions and lettuce. I just put on the biggest Thanksgiving spread ever, for 19, and enjoyed every last minute of it. And I just spent $3,700 on a complete new wardrobe, including undies, jammies, work clothes, casual clothes, coats, gloves, shoes and jewelry! That hurt the bank account but made quite a few big desposits in my self-esteem account! My husband, sons, friends and coworkers have been so supportive, I truly love each of them for it. Be aware that things could possibly go wrong, but be confident that they won't! This is the greatest thing I ever did for myself. Good luck to all!

    So, My Critical Mother.....

I am sorry that your mom isn't noticing or as supportive as you need her to be. Mine, if she were alive, would not have been either. She strongly disapproved of my cutting my nose hair, and you should have heard it when I had breast reduction! Her comment was, "Well, if it offends you, you just cut it off!" On the flip side, I recently got together with all my family due to a death. Of course they noticed the weight loss, and asked how I did it. I told them the truth, and every last one of them, some pushing 80, were supportive and inquisitive about my new life style. I was very proud of them! Take your support where you find it. We all want our mothers' approval, and most of us never get it.

    Can You Eat Red Meat?

One of the first solid foods I had was hamburger patty with melted cheese. It went down and stayed down very nicely. I ate it almost exclusively for dinner for a few weeks. Now I have filet mignon frequently. Can't eat the whole thing, but it sure tastes and feels good!! My doctor did not take any stance on any particular foods. Guidelines and timelines were suggested, and his patients can eat what they can tolerate. I'm one of the lucky ones - only lettuce, lots of grease and soft white breads give me any trouble.

    Tail Bone Pain

Same here. Used to have really big butt, now it's flatter than a flitter (whatEVER that is!). Can't even sit in a recliner very long!

    Eating Too Much?

I am about 8 1/2 months out and can eat a lot. I could actually eat more than I do. But I have a set plan and I really try to stick with it. I am getting from 1000-1200 calories per day, less than 50 carbs, and 80-100 grams of Protein. My weight loss has slowed way down, but I am about 10 pounds from goal. Still, I am losing, just a pound every week or so. I'm good with that. I do allow myself to partake naturally at luncheons, business meetings, family gatherings, special occassions. I have pizza once a week and eat all that I can - which is one piece! Rest of the time, I stick to the plan. I'm so grateful. Surgery went well. No complications. Lost lots of weight. Can tolerate most foods. How lucky is all that??
  24. This is going to be my ultimate test. I always have and always will put on the biggest Thanksgiving bash ever. The more the merrier! I not-so-modestly admit that I am one fine cook! And baking is my specialty!! That is in large part how I made my way to this forum - eating my own fare! Sooo, here we are upon my first Thanksgiving post-op. I intend to try to treat the food the same way I treated cash when I was a bank teller - just pretend it's not real. It's just monopoly money. It's just part of the "game". Probably won't work. Good think I have two strapping big sons and lots of other big eaters who will carry out a ton of leftovers. And I've already invited several coworkers over for leftovers the next day! Gotta get that stuff out of the house! Our Christmas tradition involves food, but not to the extent of Thanksgiving. That one won't be so bad.

    Chewy Vitamin Question

I take chewable gummies and all my Vitamin tests consistently come back fine. I asked last checkup how long I must or should take all these supplements, and the answer was "for as long as you want to feel as good as you do now". Nuff said.
