Galveston Overnighter - November 13, 2004
leatha_g replied to New Hope's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'll have to drive from Plano to Grand Prairie, so I was figuring if I could leave home by 8, I'd be there by 9, then we can count at least 4 hrs driving time. So, we may make it by 2, depending on stops, traffic tickets, etc. lol. Will we be eating out that night? I've just recieved word that some other bandsters from some of the other sites will be there (in Galveston) also. It might be fun to meet up with them or invite them over to share experiences. It would be a real treat for some of you who haven't met some veteran bandsters to hear their stories. Anyway, I've passed my cell number along so that we can maybe meet up with them or have them drop by if we stay in. Leatha -
With our 'mostly protein' diet, I tend to become irregular much more often. I have resorted to taking chewable fiber as I really never get enough fiber in my diet. Jessie Ahroni says use your breakfast time for high fiber cereal, which I try to do on weekends. But yes, this is a common thread among bandsters.

Leatha - Arriving somewhere around 3pm. (unless Betty makes me get up earlier.) lol

Completely FED UP! (long whining post!)
leatha_g replied to Bright's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've been banded since May 29, 2003 and I feel exactly the same way as you many days. Having said that, even with this roller coaster of emotions, I have lost 67lbs and I feel so much better physically. My health is probably 80% better than it was the day I had surgery, if not more. I can walk without waddling too much, but yes, I wake up everyday wishing I didn't have to be concerned with what I put in my mouth. Regarding your band. Inamed's 9.75cc band will ONLY hold 4ccs all-together. That is why he scoffed at that. Normally, a physician will not put anything in the band during surgery, although some do, but never would they put in 4ccs that would close you off totally. You probably do have the Inamed band, 9cc - 9.75cc, sheesh.. lol, you were close enough, I believe. Like you, I'm sick and tired of the larger clothes too. I'm currently swinging between 16's and 18's and I just can't make myself look at the larger clothes anymore. I keep telling myself I won't need them much longer. In the meantime, I'm wearing the same 2 pairs of pants and mixing several blouses etc to work in. It's getting old and I'm lacking motivation to force myself back to the 'bandster' way of eating. Luckily, our band will still be there when we can muster the strength to take another stab at it. Maybe a rest and re-group is not such a bad thing, it forces us to look at our bad habits and weaknesses once again to remind us that without this thing we will just go right back where we came from and I, for one, do NOT want to go back there. Hugs to you, sister of the Band, just voicing the thoughts is helpful and sometimes awakens that little something that we need to move us in the right direction. Don't beat yourself up too much in the meantime. Leatha -
:eek lmaorofl (they don't call me Lethal fer nuttin..) Ginny, tell them I'm an angel. Sheesh.. lol

Some people definitely do have severe swelling post-op, but most tend to do better within a week to 10 days. Definitely keep a watch on fluids as dehydration is not something you want at this point. Can you use a straw and just sip, sip, sip constantly? Even tiny tiny sips? I'm really sorry to hear you're having a tough time, but just think, if this IS just post-op swelling, it's a good sign you'll have some restriction after the swelling subsides, which is a bonus most bandsters don't get right at first! Please keep us posted on your progress!

Umm... now I've gone and done it, the news is out. (You don't know the half of it. )

This is absolutely nothing new or unique. My brother and his wife were put off yesterday with the directive to have 1 YEAR supervised weight loss program with their doctor. Now is the time to get your ducks in a row. Do the 12 week supervision, get your appeal letters ready to go, see the psych (we all did) and anything else they want. This is very common. Your reaction to it, however, may be the clencher.

Sounds good.

My point, exactly. If they stop me in a Subaru, imagine the troubles I'd have in a real sports car. lol

Hi, Alex. I am Leatha and I am also an ice cream-a-holic.

Well, the night I got TWO (count em) 2 warnings, I was actually having a gallbladder attack and had made the mistake of driving 3 hrs to my mother's house. I was trying to make my way back home in rather severe abdominal pain (no lie), so yes, my foot was a bit heavy. I contemplated going to the ER but I waited til the following morning. That's a good excuse for that particular time.. but, I will have to say it's not the ONLY time I ever speeded. lol So, when the guy actually wrote me a ticket on the THIRD occasion, I had no qualms about it. I deserved it much more than that once. lol. (sorry about the hijack of this thread. )

Make yourself a pillow/tummy splint. Take a flat sheet and fold into a square, tape it together compactly and use it to hold over your incisions when you cough or sneeze. Flat sheet is absolutely the best 'cough pillow' ever.

LOL, actually, I just bought a Honda Accord, but I got the (most recent) tickets in the car I traded, which was a 2004 Subaru Forester. Does it make sense to you why I DON'T buy something like a Camaro or Firebird or a sports car?? lol. That's me, Lethal Leadfoot, however, I am an extremely safe and good speeder type person. Now, where are those country cd's... lol

Glad to hear your grandfather is doing better. Great news!!
-
I can vouch for that. Since February, I've gotten 3 warnings (two on the same night) and 1 speeding ticket.

no, no, no, no.. this is just a weekend thing, sort of last minute kind of thing. I think there is still talk of a larger type get-together after the New Year. Am I right? This really just started out as a 'meet for lunch/the day' kind of thing. It's not meant to take the place of a full-fledged LBT get-together. At least that was my impression. ??? That will definitely take more time to plan and plenty of time for people who aren't local to prepare.

Tell me now what type of music you like, Betty. lol.

Just remember, this liquids/soft foods period is not so much about how you tolerate what it is that you eat. It is about keeping your freshly operated on tummy as still as possible in order to allow the scar tissue to develop that 'anchors' it in. If the tummy is having to work, such as grinding and churning to digest more solid foods, then it is not being allowed to get 'seated' into the scar tissue which it needs in order to help prevent slippage later down the road. Jessie Ahroni has a thing she says, ' just because you CAN, doesn't mean you should.' We can apply this in many ways with banding. I doubt the chili was a big error, especially if you blended it. I just wanted to remind you of what the liquids phase is really about. It's more of a technical issue than a food tolerance issue at this point. It'll be no time at all before your back to everyday foods, I promise. Then, you'll be coming back here and saying you don't understand why you're not losing anymore and wondering if we've ever heard of such a thing. lol. Go slow, you have the rest of your life!!
-
Glad to hear you're doing well Denise. Welcome home and welcome to the banded side!! Keep walking, drink, drink, drink. You'll be feeling great in no time!
