Did you all get your books??

Keith Terry E-mail Address(es): kctt1@cox.net This is who sent me the blurb about having an electronic version until they can get the books shipped.
  2. Roll call, ladies. Where are you and how are you doing??

    food problem

People often fall off the wagon. The trick to success with your band is that you are determined enough to get back on the wagon. So you messed up one day. OK. Next day starts back 'doing the right thing'. If you totally shuck your doctors orders, you may surely pay for that in lack of weight loss or band complications. If you are really serious about wanting to lose weight, you will have to make the changes necessary to allow the band to work for you. This includes a 6 week healing phase to allow you stomach NOT to grind and churn to digest harder foods. A gradual return to solids including hard Proteins, not soft foods that allow more calories to slide by your band, exercise at least 30 minutes 3/5 days a week and Water, water, water. Please be kind to yourself and your band. The stomach 'growlies' are inevitable, but don't necessarily mean you are starving. Pretty soon, they subside and you can get your mind on other things, like riding a bike or shopping for hours because you've lost enough that you can walk for hours. Getting your head in the right place is tough, we can all agree with that, but it will come, if you meet it halfway! Good luck to you!

Did you all get your books??

I sent them an email and told them either send my book or credit my account. They sent me an email on 11/29 with this url blocked::http://www.mwpmedia, which i could not use to an 'electronic copy - until they could get the books out. well, as you see, it is 'blocked' so this never worked for me.
  5. I've heard Kaiser doesn't pay anything for any weight loss surgery. This may not be written in stone, but your starting place would be to contact them and ask. From what I've heard, Dr. Cirangle is probably the best Dr and lowest rate in the bay area, with the best follow up. His patients gush over him all the time. Can't beat that kind of admiration. Good luck to you!

    Help!

This is an excerpt from this person's website, who says she is very lucky with fills for her midband. Maybe she can point you in the right direction. "Patients banded out of the USA may have a hard time finding a fill doctor. This could be made even more difficult if they do not have an FDA-approved band, and currently the only band that IS approved is the Inamed Lap-band. Bandsters are very lucky in my local area, because we have many options for after-care - radiologists who will do fills, surgeons who will see patients banded out of the country, etc. But you may not be so lucky, so do your research FIRST before flying anywhere for surgery! http://www.sarinaonline.net/page6.html ""

    Help!

Sorry to hear this. I'm also sorry to tell you that finding aftercare/fill Dr.s is a necessity BEFORE being banded. So many will not touch you without an FDA approved band or if they did not do your surgery. It sounds as if Inamed won't be able to help you either. This is a sad, sad situation. You might find some help on Yahoo Groups by searching for Midband. I'm sure there is someone who will see you, but you put yourself at risk by not knowing how experienced or qualified they may be. I have heard these guys in Paris, Texas are excellent. There is SOO much more to banding than just getting a fill on occasion. I sincerely hope you are able to locate someone whom you can trust.

    Help!

Actually, some radiologists will fill the bands that are not yet FDA approved. How you would find them, I'm not sure. There are also supposed to be some 'fill center's opening up to cater to Mexican Dr's patients. Is it Dr Ortiz who can help find them?? Someone help me here. I know that Red River Radiology in Paris, Texas does do this.
  10. Teresa!! 75.8 lbs OMG!! You should be SO proud of yourself! Way to go girlfriend!!

Great news, Jen!! Glad to hear all went well. Good thing you got the gallbladder at the same time. For me it was 6 weeks AFTER my SECOND banding.

    Holidays And Fills

Yep. I'm still sitting on 183. I do think I will see my Dr. this coming week as well. I SO wanted to be in the 170's before Christmas. Thank goodness I've maintained this weight, AT LEAST. Goodness knows I've done everything possible to sabotage it.
  14. I've heard this about having a problem with meat post-op too. Personally, I've only had some issues with certain types of meat. I don't tackle steak often, because no matter how much you chew, it just don't break down to mush. I don't handle lobster, scallops and some types of 'rubbery' texture fishes. Other than that, I handle chicken breast just fine, but I hear others say they have a problem with it. Tuna works great! As do flaky, white fish. I do alot of chili and crabcakes. There are lots of choices. I think the most important thing is to realize and admit that pre-band we really DID NOT chew and swallow as well as we thought. Now, you're forced to learn that or you suffer. Good luck!

    Please Explain why no pills

I take Prilosec - capsule, larger than some every night. I also take Pamelor, larger than that, every night. I take zocor which is a tablet, sorta triangular. no problems. And Coumadin - tablet, extremely important. As long as I take them with food, I'm okay. I have never been able to just take them with liquids at all. I did, however, have a problem with them when I became overfilled once. The pamelor was the worst, but I worked it out. Remember, with weight loss, you may even be able to discontinue some of your blood pressure meds. Now wouldn't that be nice. Good luck!

I have a stack of clothes in the trunk of my car that I need to find a home for. I think most of them are size 18/20 Petite lengths mostly in pants. If there is anyone in the North Dallas/Plano/Frisco area who could use them, please let me know. Maybe we can meet up somewhere or do dinner, etc.

    Speaking of disappointments..

Well. This bill is only $180, but the fact remains that I called these people BEFORE I made the appointment. I was told they accepted my insurance. It was a very big issue at the time. I had to have my PCP refer me etc etc. They copied my insurance card, they took my copay, so where was the disconnect? And why, if this was refused by my insurance company am I only now being advised of this? That was in JUNE for Chrissakes! I called my insurance company today and they tell me that he was not on my plan ever. So who's fault is it that I wound up in that office at all? Something isn't just right here.

Sounds like she has a pretty bad problem herself... Poor thing. I wonder how truly miserable she is in her own skin?
