Dare I?? Hmm.. I have read somewhere (in medical literature, of course) that the 'end result' is usually no more than a teaspoon volume, so it seems safe to me. Your mileage may vary.. as it were.

    Goodbye

Well. I would like to beg .. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not reduce this board to 'lapband' information only. That's the beauty of this board. We haven't been held to the rigidity of so many other boards. This board is for lapband support, which means most of us are banded, are looking to be banded, or are researching being banded. Besides being banded, we are all humans too, with human issues. We share our joys, we share our sorrows and concerns, we share tears and laughter and the whole gamut. As family, we even have a spat now and then and you're right. ..Once a point is made, it should be let go in order not to turn the board into a 'free for all' or a 'witchhunt'. Someone made a mistake, thinking they were doing the right thing. They've been called out, humiliated and burned at the stake. Not only has it made it clear that some of us don't appreciate being censored, but just because we dont' want to be censored does not absolve us from taking others into consideration. Point made. In the meantime, there are people here who are very valuable to this board as well as everyone else who have been hurt and deeply disappointed by the goings on and their leaving will sorely hurt the spirit of this board. I find that extremely sad and I hope everyone got their way and feels better now.
  6. Yes. It is possible. It's also possible it was there in the beginning as were many many others. I've spoken to many others who've had to have revisions - just like mine due to a hiatal hernia that was not repaired in the original surgery. Even Jessie Ahroni will tell you there is a correlation to existing hiatal hernias and band slippage/pouch dilation. Somehow, the docs missed it, or didn't feel it was necessary to fix it only to find out later it caused problems. Either way.. I hope Patty gets a better deal with whatever it takes to fix it.

This is a hard and sad day for me

((((((((Betty)))))))). Big hugs to you, Betty. We move on, but the loss never really gets easier. I understand.
  8. Funny how our subconscious takes over. lol. When I first began exploring the Lapband and was at my highest weight (250) thinking of nothing else BUT my weight and how miserable I was. I was also under attack from a lot of candy in my workplace. So my brain and my body were really fighting one another. I had a dream one night, where I was giving someone my website addy (can you tell I sit at the puter too much?) and I even said out loud in my sleep. www.idonteatsweets.com . I WOKE myself up saying this!!! I laughed my ass off (well, not really) when I woke myself up. And that was probably one of my turning points to decide to do something about this weight.
  9. Sorry to bring it up. But I'd question my doctor on his techniques as well. How can all this happen to one band? I understand hiatal hernia/band slippage - I had it happen as well. Hernia SHOULD have been fixed in the original surgery. Port problems, they happen. Leakage? Who's doing fills? Are they using the correct type of needle? It's been heard that some docs are using 'coring' needles which will leave a hole in the port sponge that does not close up like it will with a 'non coring' type needle (Huber needles are supposed to be used.). If the leak is in the tubing, then someone is a bad shot at putting fills in. Definitely, IF you get your band taken out - or your tubing, which can be replaced WITHOUT a new band, MAKE them let you see it - so that you and INAMED will know where the fault is. Just my 2 cents..

    Who sticks to calorie counting?

I do not count calories as a rule, however, I do find it helpful if I find myself getting off track/not losing to go to www.fitday.com and track what I put in my mouth for a few days. I think most of us know when we're eating the wrong things or too much of anything. It should be a given that we just STOP, but if it were that easy we wouldn't be here, right? So, sometimes you have to check yourself and see where you are going wrong. I love that fitday shows Protein, carbs, fat etc so it reinforces to me that even though I may be keeping my 'calories' in check, I'm still over doing the carbs or fat, which is gonna slow my weight loss down - right or wrong. Also, according to some writings a good rule of thumb that is easy to remember for me is this. If I want to maintain a 120lb body, I do not need over 1200 calories a day. If I want to maintain a 175 lb body, 1750 calories will keep me there. Simple math. How much do you WANT to weigh? If you think you want to weight 140 and you eat 1500-2000 calories a day, it's not gonna happen. Unless you are an absolute exercise fiend, (like we all are, right) there has to be a balance. Call it counting or call it behavior modification, it has to happen in order to lose the weight. The more closely you watch it, the faster you're going to see results. Maintain the calories needed for the body size you wish to have, exercise at least 30 minutes 3-5 times a week, Water, water, water. Sounds simple. Harder to keep up. And did I mention metabolism?? Some of us can't eat the calories, because we've simply shut our metabolism down, which means I have to eat fish instead of chips, cause the chips are going to be there tomorrow.. Not fair!

    Change of Life OT

Hot flashes are THE WORST!! I remember when I used to think the 'older' ladies were just hypochondriacs. OMG - I had a hysterectomy, they put me on hormone Patches, then, due to blood clots, they took me off COLD TURKEY. The year after was THE WORST year I've ever experienced. Thankfully, you live through it and it levels out, but I had no idea how terribly miserable they could really be. I do not envy you, but if anyone asked me, I'd say it's better to just adjust than to ever be taken off those hormones. good luck!
