I am going to be shuned
leatha_g replied to prettyone's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I doubt that you'll be shunned. Just for the record there are others here who are satisfied with their experience with him also. Welcome to the board! -
Welcome to the other side! It definitely gets better or you wouldn't have quite as many bandsters out there!

Sorry to hear about your mom! I hope she recovers soon!

I had a catheter and it was removed the following morning. This is not the case for everyone. Ask your doctor about his preference.

I have had two bands and I can tell you the second definitely tolerates more than the first. In over a year, I have not had ONE PB. I do not really get soft stops anymore, or hard stops.. strange. Luckily, I was already in the mode of eating off dessert plates or out of cups, but I am definitely guilty of taking advantage of the lack of restriction/stop signs - and it shows..

Please see a medical professional. It is hard for anyone to have the right answer. Many people truly do have endogenous/internal chemical imbalance that requires the additional help from anti-depressants. There is also situational depression which may pass, as referred to above. Cognitive behavior modification may be necessary to move yourself out of the lethargy/ lack of motivation mode. This takes much determination and honesty with yourself. But, none of us can really give you that answer, you need bloodwork, possible consultations/therapy, etc in order to diagnose and treat and I'm sorry to inform you that this too takes time. Either way, if you attack it head on with the determination to move out of it, it CAN be done!

Here's a few of my favs. My son Jeremy (the Buddha baby) at 3 mos. Then, more recently at 18. Then we have one of the most beautiful babies I've ever laid eyes on, my daughter, MiMi at 6 months and again at 3 yrs. Then, me and my brothers - way back in the early 60s, just to prove I really WAS a born blonde.

1st fill, it just doesn't feel right...worried
leatha_g replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I've noticed the same jaw/head/ear pain with my fills, especially if overfilled. It might be a safe thing to get at least a tiny bit taken out. Reason being, the fills actually get tighter later down the road. If you can't chew hard proteins and swallow them without pb'ing, you could do some real damage by keeping the fill. -
I do know a lady with Crohn's in Cali. I believe Dr Cirangle did her surgery. Dr Wetter did my initial surgery, also. He was one of the reasons I moved to Ca for 15 months, specifically to get banded.

"beeping" through security checks????
leatha_g replied to TraumaNurse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
try don.mills@inamed.com, sorry. -
Good luck Vera! I'm really sorry you're having to endure yet another surgery, but the hysterectomy was probably the best thing I've ever done, besides the band, of course. I truly hope all goes smoothly and you can get back to the adventure of living without problems again. Hugs!

"beeping" through security checks????
leatha_g replied to TraumaNurse's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I travel on a weekly basis and I have never once set off the security machines. If you have an Inamed band, you could probably ask Don Mills to send you a card or two. donmills@inamed.com -
Kathy, You certainly have my prayers. Regardless of how harmless this can be, it is still certainly a frightening thing to go through. I truly hope that everything turns out well. Keep us updated!

Sounds like depression to me. Have you had your meds evaluated lately? Could it just be residual effects from the surgery? Are you exercising and drinking your water and working on the protein? How about taking a multi-vitamin? the exercise really does help with depression/lack of motivation. Hope some of this maybe serves to at least remind you of something that could help. I too suffer from depression and the more I stay in and am not involved in something, the more susceptible I am to falling into depression. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Sounds like you may need an EGD BEFORE being banded to see what is going on in your esophagus. Sometimes, people have motility problems and are not good candidates for the band. I would certainly request this before I was banded. Once banded, this is exactly how the band works. You esophagus is narrowed to the point very little food can go through at a time. If you already have this phenomena and you narrow it even more, will you be pleased or will you be in distress due to the stoppage of food high in your throat?? Something to consider...
