Possible Clothing Swap for Texas LBTs...
leatha_g replied to banded_for_life's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'll have a few bigger things, possibly 2x, 3x very casual stuff mostly. Then I'll have a few smaller things too, some brand new business casual. Anything else I need to bring?? -
you can still go to fitday.com without it being downloaded.

Do ask your doctor about backdating information in support of your hope to have weight loss surgery. My brother and sister in law had the same problem with BCBS, so they had to go back to their PCP and ask him to document each time they discussed their obesity and any attempts they had made to lose weight, either with success or without. They did have to wait about 8 mos, but the PCP was helpful in getting it moved along. To this date, my sis-in-law has won her appeal and been banded, my brother is still waiting for his appeal to be reviewed. Good luck!

I was dying when I was banded too. However, the odds of me having very serious complications of being overweight, far outweighed the odds of me having serious complications with being banded and losing weight. I knew I could not lose on my own, so I was dying - plain and simple, OR I could take the risk involved, try to make changes in my life and regain some semblance of living again. The choice was not too hard for me... yep. I've had slippage. Minor bump in the road. No signs of erosion as of Jan. 6th. Will it happen? It could... but so could I have died by now of a blood clot, or a heart attack or a I could have developed diabetes on top of my already terrible health. Instead, I'm far more healthy. I can pass a stress test. I can ride a bike. I can dance. I weigh 172lbs instead of 250, so my quality of life far surpasses what it would have, if I had retreated due to possibilities of complications with the band... I wish you luck in your decision...

Something just hit me!!!! Will I be able to..

I take 5 pills every single day. Only once, when I was far too restricted did I have any problems with it. You'll just have trial and error, but I just make it clear to everyone that I must take my medications on a daily basis. -
Way to go Alex!!!! NOW THAT IS SUCCESS!! I'm so proud of you and for you!!

I sincerely hope your fears are laid to rest. I will certainly keep you and your daughter in my prayers. God bless you..

Saw Surgeon Today, Feeling Anxious & Hernia Questions
leatha_g replied to NeenBand's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You won't notice a thing different. I had mine done, with my second banding. The pain from the diaphragm may last just a tad longer, otherwise, you'll never know the difference. -
Have you been checked for slippage? How late are you eating before bed? Often, if you are too restricted, slipped or have pouch dilation, the food will not move on through the stoma and you can have this nighttime reflux. Please see your doctor and ask for a barium swallow to check the position of your band and the status of your pouch and amount of fluid getting through. Nighttime reflux can cause aspiration pneumonia which is very hard to get over. Please take care of yourself and your band! Good luck!

call local radiology places. sometimes you will find a radiologist who will do fills. of course, they'd need to be familiar with which band you have.

Please do a search for all the numerous threads concerning erosion. Simply put, there is no definitive answer as to WHY or WHAT causes it. It just IS a possible complication that happens to a certain percentage of banded people. I would say that in the case of several of our previously banded friends who were banded by the same doctor, there MIGHT be some situation at the local level which might have set the stage for erosion. But there is really nothing a bandster can or cannot do to prevent it or cause it such as eating certain foods etc. Erosion normally happens from outside the stomach, where the band erodes away at the exterior wall of the stomach until it reaches the inner lining of the stomach, not the reverse. I'm really sorry to hear your news, but I still believe banding is far more safe than bypass and even this unfortunate complication is minor compared to some of the more invasive surgeries.

K, the heat is ON! I went and joined LA Fitness this evening. I have NO excuse not to work my BUTT OFF!! I have absolutely nothing to do with my evenings, so I am about to become a gym rat!

I'm like Jax. There's been times I swear my band is around my esophagus too! Xrays clearly show there is a bit of stomach above the band, as it should be. Anyway, I sure hope you get your questions answered soon!

Nutritionist/Support group in Dallas area?

Well, most of the other groups just get together at some restaurant somewhere about once a month. The one I visited really didn't even do anything too formal, it was more a get-together for banded folks to fellowship with other like themselves. I know there are some folks mostly from ObesityHelp.com who meet in Carrollton. I know some from the Yahoo Group DFWBandsters have several dinners in different areas of the metroplex at different times each month. I'm afraid I'm not great at being the organizer of such things and with my work, I can't commit to being there all the time, either, but I'd be happy to meet up when I could if we could establish a time and place. I'll see what I can find about groups that are already getting together in Yahoo Groups. -
The one piece of clothing every plus size girl needs?
leatha_g replied to HunnyBun's topic in The Lounge
absolutely, a decent bra.. the wrong one can add pounds and unsightly globules.. the right one can take off pounds, add shape to your body and make you look much more decent in your clothing, no matter the size. i've worn a custom fitted bra since the late 80's and although, expensive, they last for years and years and can make or break how i look in my clothes.
