    Still trying to decide...

Jonathan.. I really do not envy you, but I understand your not knowing what to do next, but most of all NOT wanting to go backwards and regain what you've fought so hard to lose. I know you're a man of God and all I can offer is to lift you up to God and pray that His will be done. I pray for you strength and understanding and peace in whatever you decide to do. God bless..

Unfill before going out of town?

I travel extensively in the US and yes, I have experienced tightening of my bands due to elevations in altitude. I'm not sure, however, that I would get an unfill due to that temporary circumstance.

    Ovarian Cysts?

Well, well... that's very good information. Thank you for taking the time to confirm some of what I've already considered. However, after having had a hyst in '96, I haven't thought that the metabolic issues would be worth having investigated. It very well could be that this was PART of my problem. Course, those burgers, fries, ice cream and pizza had nothing to do with it....:biggrin1:

    Any brain surgeons around?

I'll vote for the brain transplant, also. God knows, the heart is willing, but the brain trips me up every single time. :couch2: FYI - even after restriction. The AVERAGE weight loss for a banded patient is 5-10 lbs per month. Again, I repeat, AVERAGE. Meaning at the end of your 1st year, you may have lost from 50-100 lbs depending on your adherence to band rules, your exercise, your body's metabolism/metabolic functionality. I'd say 8lbs is pretty much right on track.. Keep up the good work!!

    Ovarian Cysts?

What's interesting about this to me, is this. Mine were Polycystic, or what they used to call Endometrial cysts, which come and go every month, basically rupturing and blowing your tubes to pieces, scarring etc. So, okay, I guess I'm OLD, since it now has a name - Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. So, if I had my hyst to remove the faulty tubes and ovaries, is it possible that I still have the metabolic issues that go along with this disorder? If this is the case, could this have been an issue with why I gained 76 lbs in less than one year back when I was 19 years old? Could it have been a factor in all my weight issues ever since and why I've been a slow loser even with the band? OR, would having the hysterectomy/ovary removal have basically cured the metabolic issues associated?? Hmm.... :couch2:

    A Couple of Questions...

For me, I am certainly always aware that I have a lapband, but I really do not always worry that every twinge or discomfort is associated with my band. I think that because with restriction, we often get to actually take in very little food. Because of that, once something moves into the lower stomach, you are much more 'aware' of it, than you would have been pre-band. I think this is simply because you're stomach actually DOES get empty. I know mine does. So my sensations of my lower stomach being full or empty seems heightened sometimes. If I overeat soft foods, it's very obvious, from the lower stomach sensations. I'm thinking MAYBE it's because my lower stomach has actually shrunk, as we've always been told. Neato.. :couch2: Some people say they forget that they have a band. I don't think I have really ever forgotten. But, I sure can't worry about it constantly or I'd be a basket-case. I think it's perfectly normal, being newly banded, however, to worry about it. This too shall pass. (Have I been clear as mud?)

    Ovarian Cysts?

I had cysts, one the size of a grapefruit, the other the size of an orange. That's how they described them anyway. I had a hysterectomy in 96. But not AFTER being banded.

    Gross me out, please!

I have a friend who has a quote: 'There are two kinds of people. Those who HAVE and those who WILL.' I think we belong in that group.. Ever see a wild dog salivate? Welcome to the canine family...

    DO NOT DRINK WHILE EATING...Why?

Because drinking DURING eating will flush your food on through, which allows for eating MORE at a sitting and defeats the purpose of the band. Also, IF you have eaten good hard Proteins (as recommended) you could dump the liquids on top and wind up having it come back up due to restriction. It's a tough habit to break for most all of us, but it makes sense that you want the food to stay above the band as long as possible to create that sense of not needing to eat more. :welldone2: And yes, it's here on out..

    Weird feelings in my throat......

My band has been known to tighten on it's own at times and feel like I have something around the lower part of my throat. I'd certainly be aware of any nighttime reflux or inability to swallow or foods not moving through in a reasonable amount of time.
