I've had both and to me, I'd rather have flouro anyday. I love that the flouro reassures both me and the doc that the band is in the correct position, first of all. It shows the shape and size of my pouch, which is a big concern over a long period of time AND he can judge how restricted I am both before and after the fill. I really hate 'blind' fills. For me, personally, I just feel so much more in control if I can see my band, KNOW the pouch looks good and KNOW that there is Fluid running through when I leave. True, what looks good on film this morning can become tighter. I've experienced that as well, but I am a big advocate of flouro.

Are there any STRONG MEDICAL reasons for choosing the lap-band?
leatha_g replied to Randi's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
In MY case, it was the only choice. As my doctor explained it, if I were in Australia or other parts of the world. It would be the 'gold' standard'. otherwise, I take blood thinners and his point was that were I to break loose and bleed (with an RNY) I'd hemorrhage to death before it could be fixed. Also, the fact that you don't deal with the malabsorptive properties of the other surgeries could be medically important to you as well. Totally reversible, if need be. FAR less opportunity for having a lengthy post-op stay due to complications in surgery or post op for RNY. There will be others with much more detailed, scientific answers. Overall, it should be a personal choice about what you, yourself can tolerate and are willing to subject your body to. I wish you luck in getting it all straightened out! -
Yup. This is a thread on LBT as well. Welcome!

Good luck with that spinning class!! That surely oughta help!

You go girl!! Good luck to you! This is what it's all about - gaining a new YOU!

In 3 years, I have never received a nasty PM. Thank goodness. Alternatively, I have never, or would never send one either. Honestly, I think if someone 'attacked' me in PM, I'd be compelled to post it publicly. I do, however, see where PMing and having an adult discussion about a difference of opinion or misunderstanding could be beneficial.

YMMV, however, I bought some of the lower rise - thinking it wouldn't push on the port. BUT, what I got was that the band actually pushed UPWARD under the port ..... edited, sorry folks...

Here! Here! Thank you all SO much for all that you do!
-
Good luck Karen. I'm sure hoping you don't need back surgery either.
-
Good luck, Elizabeth! Usually they start out with 1cc, so as not to over-do it. Hopefully, you won't swell too much, but it'll give you the gentle nudge that's needed to stop you when it should. Everyone is different. I think I had 3 fills my first year.

Bless your heart! Don't feel like you are alone. Being at home with children is not always easy. Even full time moms need a break now and again.

Awesome!! Thank you for updating us!

I'm going to pray for you, I8. For the record, my reference to feeding the trolls is very simple. Anytime there is this type of behavior going on. Reacting is what fuels the fire. I was imploring all to NOT fuel the fire. I'm sorry you didn't get the message, but if the shoe fits...

Very well put, Wheetsin. Thank you. I doubt any one of us would allow what has gone on here in our own home, ever.

Glad to hear you got a good report and are doing so well!! Keep it up and keep healthy!

Honestly, for at least the first year, I became pretty sore when wearing jeans or anything with a fairly tight waistband. Especially if I sat bent for very long. Unfortunately, my port was located right at my waistband, but it has migrated over some over the period of 3 years.

Thank you Telly. I'll take that under consideration. Is there anything else you'd like to share with me?

Alex, Penni, please lock the thread. We tried to remove ourselves from the disruption but were provoked over and over. It's plain to see. You guys can have it.

Amazing. Ladies, we came to this thread in order to not taint yours and it appears you couldn't help yourselves but to follow and instigate? WHY?? As I stated, unless you consider yourself Old, Disgruntled or a Failure, there is simply no reason for you to feel obligated to post here.

3Loves, I noticed your big day is coming on the 26th!!! I am so excited for you as well!! We'll almost have the same Bandiversary, mine is the 27th! Rest up girl, get yourself a pedicure and enjoy your time!!

I use Fitday on occasion and what I've found most useful is to click on the 'Custom Food's drop down box and enter my foods from the packaging. That way I have my own foods that I may regularly eat. Their existing database is a bit generic, so it's hard to know you're getting in the correct counts.

((((((MICHELLE!!!))))) I was missing you girl! Glad to see you here! I hope you're doing well!

LOL. I'd love to see that, Sue! It did cross my mind to just 'go for it'. Then, I have this ambivalence about believing much on the net. After what I've been through here (on the net), I'm more inclined to think it's some hateful person pulling my strings. I'm jaded  Unfortunately, people keep proving to me that I'm naive to think that people are basically good and honest. It sucks to have that innocence taken from you. So I hesitate.. .

LOL Paula.. It's true. I didn't know whether to be flattered or hurt. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I don't smoke anymore, and they want someone who smokes. lol I certainly KNOW HOW, and I did have to give it some thought for about 2 minutes (I could use $7500). But, I have not replied. Otherwise, I think I could fit the part very well. Here's the email. I got it on myspace.com and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Pretty amusing... but it did make me stop and think. I guess I have arrived.. sigh. "Do you smoke pretty lady? How old are you? Would you like to be in my music video for cmt&gac? The director wants me to find mature older ladies mid 30s to late 50s to play a cowgirl all shapes and sizes, NOT models and no exp required to basically sit in a bar smoke a cigarette and hold a drink like evryday moms and wives at their local bar after a long week of work having a goodtime with their sposue and friends type deal here. Not a snoop dog video so NOT looking for younegr mdoels for this certain shot so pelase dont put yourself down because of your age and say to me why me? i'm not a model I've got wrinkles lol.. Don't wanna hear it. Pay is $7500 and before you ask me if i'm for real and are you serious? Read my profile and look at my pics and if still not convinced I can call you on the phone and sing you my song from my profile called Lets get Loose which is the one im doing for my video to prove its me. Airfare will be paid, hotels meals and you can bring a friend along. I saw your pic and think youve got the perfect eyes for the part. We've been getting lots of replies from people who wanna be in it but they don't smoke or meet the age criteria for this shot. Do you know how to make a short video clip or dvd? We'll need an audition over the net of you smoking like video clip or dvd. Do you know how to make wmv or mpg files to email or do you have access to a video camcorder? from 2 seperate cam angles but must inhale and must be adleast 35 or older. Also looking to hire a midget for a funny dance scene if ya know any. Let me know. " LMAO - that's me. or maybe I could qualify for the midget part as well?? :biggrin1:

Good point, Paul and I do think it begins in the mind, for some of us. Like Poodles, I had severe pain in the beginning. Shin splints from just trying to walk around my apartment parameter. So far, I've found the most helpful thing was to have shoes that help alleviate pain. Honestly, immediately following my surgery, I simply walked several times a day in order to help the port pain, gas pain, etc from the surgery. It really was my saving grace! 3-4 times a day, I would just go out and walk - not fast, just walk for at least 10-15 minutes. Gradually, I turned that into longer periods. By the 5th day I was feeling like a new person and just continued to progress at my own pace. I still have limitations due to damage to my lung capacity (pulmonary embolism). I still have damage to my legs due circulation issues, so I don't think I'll ever be a triathalon participant, but for ME, I have made great strides in incorporating more activity in my life. Today, I take the stairs - not EVERY time, but often times. Today, I can dance without pain. Today, I can do an hour of water-aerobics and it is hard work with much resistance. I come out feeling ALIVE and rejuvenated instead of in pain and I praise God for that! I can honestly say this band and the perserverance and incorporation of more activity has literally saved my life. I also understand that each person has their own pace and limitations. As I'm writing this, I'm remembering a young lady from Smartbandsters who motivated me so much in my early days. This young lady got her band around the same time as me. I think her starting weight was somewhere near 400lbs and I'll never forget her posts and excitement about going to Curves and exercising with an exercise ball. She literally posted daily about how much exercise she was doing, in spite of her weight and her limitations and I could just envision the smile on her face, at her pride in herself. I could see her blossoming into something very beautiful and so fresh and wonderful. I told myself more than once, if this young lady can face this with so much vigor and joy, even at her weight, then I MUST get up and move too. I have no choice. I'm grateful to her to this day.
