I prefer doing it under flouroscope/xray, but it isn't required. I just feel better being able to check the position of my band and the state of my esophagus etc. Makes alot more sense than filling blindly when you could miss some other important signs.

I guess we all have our crosses to bear. I was a smoker for 22 yrs and thoroughly enjoyed it. I wished I could still do it, honestly. Healthwise, I was forced to look at how I could continue to rationalize doing it. Blood clots in the legs and lungs, a family history of dying of clots and heart attacks really didn't leave me much to stand on. The cost became pretty laughable and then you have those people who feel the need to control everyone else's behavior. I think empathy is a really good characteristic for anyone. I loved smoking. It helped me to maintain my weight. It kept my hands busy. It seemed to help me be a calmer person. Even my grandmother was encouraged to smoke by her doctor for her nerves. Of course this was in a simpler time. I miss it. Of course, now, nearly 5 yrs later, I'm glad I'm no longer encumbered by that habit:ban: . I am glad that my suitcase doesn't smell like smoke when I open it in a hotel. It makes me rather sick to get into a hotel room which smells like a stale bar:yuck: . I can't even tell you the last time I stepped inside a convenience store because I no longer have to go hunting my drug of choice. Heck, I even feel alien in a liquor store these days. I think, in general, most people understand that most of society doesn't like smokers these days. They've already been exiled to the outside. In some cases, they're not even allowed to practice their habit on the parameters of their workplace, so they're forced to wait or hide out in their car - off campus. Some places, their own home is the only place they're safe in and you even those controlling folks trying to say they'll prosecute you if you smoke around your own children, etc. So when will those people be happy? When cigarettes are prohibited and we have yet another group of people seeking their drug of choice through illegal means and hiding behind the corner to get their 'fix'? I'm just not so sure that's fair. I walk down the aisles of grocery stores, drug stores etc and I get severe headaches immediately when I go down the aisle for laundry soaps and cleaners. Should I throw a tantrum and demand they be removed? I can become completely nauseated from this or being forced on an elevator with some wench who feels me and the world need to know what perfume she has spent her money on. Should I turn to her and curse her for smelling up my space or giving me a sick headache? I think not. I think at some point, we graciously sidestep something we find unattractive (ever see a skinny person meet an obese person on a sidewalk?) and we consider our own inventories instead of focusing on who else we can blame for our own discontent. Expectations is the quickest way I know of to be disappointed. Think about it.

May 11, 2007 The Mother Every Child Needs 1 Samuel 1:19-28 No perfect model of motherhood exists. Children have different temperaments and personalities, and it takes all kinds of mothers to raise them well. But as different as kids are, they do have some common needs. Every child needs a mother who wants her children. Nothing is more devastating to a youngster than to grow up feeling unwanted or unloved. A broken connection with mother can haunt a child throughout life. This may hinder relationships with Jesus Christ, friends, and spouses. As a future adult, that child may struggle with a suspicion that he or she is unlovable. Every child needs a mother who cares for her children. To be healthy and stable adults, kids need a mom who invests in their body, mind, and spirit. Busy parents too often substitute material things for emotional and spiritual support. Buying the latest fashionable clothes may meet a desire. But talking and listening to understand a child's feelings meets the needs of the heart. Every child needs a mother who'll surrender her children to God. From an early age, boys and girls should understand they belong to the Lord. Whatever God calls them to do, Mom needs to support His plan with love for them and faith in Him. First Samuel 1:28 indicates that children are a gift that parents should return to the Giver's service, just as Hannah did with her son Samuel. Mothers aren't perfect. But God is. Through Him, a mom can fulfill her calling to want, protect, and surrender her children, no matter how old they are.

A newborn's conversation with God... A baby asked God, "They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?" God said, "Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you." The child further inquired, "But tell me, here in heaven I don't have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy." God said, "Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel's love and be very happy." Again the child asked, "And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don't know the language?" God said, "Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, an d with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak." "And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?" God said, "Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray." "Who will protect me?" God said, "Your angel will defend you even if it means risking its life." "But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore." God said, "Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you." At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, "God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel's name." God said, "You will simply call her, "Mom."

I had my first one removed due to slippage and a new one re-installed. I have had some esophageal issues due to restriction, but if I had to make a choice. I'd rather have the band than not. It has definitely been a help to me, to at least maintain my initial loss - that, and some change in my eating habits.

Most of the time, a surgery patient will get heparin in the OR, through their IV. Often, you'll come out of surgery with the piggy-back still attached until it is completely empty. Then they may or may not give you anymore depending on mobility and Dr's orders.

I agree, everyone should have the choice of what they wish to see or not. -
Congrats! It sounds like you're doing well! Keep walking! You're headed in the right direction. Good luck on your journey!

So then you agree that the ignore/hide feature would be acceptable? -
WFAA Botched Band Surgeries not reported.
leatha_g replied to leatha_g's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I think perhaps it's because LapBand is SO popular right now AND that it is being sold as so safe, less-invasive with such a small percentage of problems. I agree that there are many complications not reported or tracked, which scews the numbers when a person is researching their options. It's basically misleading, but part of the problem is that people are not reporting these issues to the authorities, such as their local Medical Board who investigate doctors and report their problems and/or lawsuit outcomes. Out of desperation, overweight people put themselves at risk and want to believe, but the truth is, there are much more complications than are being reported and tracked. I find that information helpful and hopefully beneficial to those who want to know the truth. -
I can eat cookies all day long, but give me a chicken breast and I can be stuffed for hours.

WFAA Botched Band Surgeries not reported.

This lady said she was ashamed to report the problem, because it was an elective surgery and she felt it was her responsibility. I agree that the percentages of complications are much higher than anyone is reporting. This is unfortunate. -
lol. nope. but the poll was moved to The Lounge, wasn't it?

I have also unsubscribed to many threads recently, which causes them to NOT come up on my subscribed list just because someone else has posted on it. I do, however, still see it in the New Posts, which unfortunately (because I'm human) still piques my curiousity. Call it addiction, call it compulsion, but human nature is to click on it. Then, once you're there, sometimes it's just very very hard not to defend your beliefs when someone is trashing them in public. I know I am not the only person who is guilty of this (on either side). I'd be willing to bet many of us go to bed at night professing to just walk away, yet wake up the next day or get home from work the next evening having had someone thrash you, your posts or your beliefs all over again. I think the poll is a very good way to get the overall preference of the board members, not just the vocal ones. -
Never fear. It sounds like you have the larger band. It often takes several fills to find your 'sweet spot'. I hate to do it, but it's been said ' just because you can, doesn't mean you should'. lol Patience my dear, you'll get there.

I am here daily posting on various threads which interest me. I also find myself here daily defending my personal beliefs and that of others who believe like me as it seems to fashionable to berate said beliefs on this board these days. If I walked by a faction who was beating up on homosexuals or fat people or Jewish people (insert most any group you like), I'm likely to defend them as well. But, I will make a deal with you. If you put me on ignore, I won't be a thorn in your side anymore and I'll do the same for you if you like.

Nope. I'm not referring to that bunch of folks, but there were many who were great support in that exodus as well. I'm talking about since. However, this thread is a poll thread, for everyone who wishes to have some input into whether they would like to see some functionality to sift the posts to suit them or not. It really shouldn't be a concern to have this function. It doesn't stop anyone from posting. It doesn't censor anything you want to see for yourself. It just allows others to sort how they wish to see their threads. The only reason I could think it would be a bad thing is if it tends to take the attention away from the potentially offensive posts and there are less responses to them. I don't see that as a problem, except that the one who is ranting may eventually find themselves talking to themselves or only to those who agree with them. Is this a bad thing?

The Lovenox shots are not really painful at all. The needle is very tiny and it is precautionary. Just so you know, even if you are ambulatory, you can still get clots. Sitting at the puter too long after surgery, sitting at a desk too long, flying.. all of these can be contributors. Better safe than sorry. Everyone's FIRST clot is a surprise.

You won't. You'll have it on your list, we won't. It's simple. Unless your recruiting for new supporters. -

I like the idea of being able to sort and sift threads. I don't think hiding the whole forum is necessary, but a 'hide'/'ignore thread' function shouldn't be such an issue. What can it hurt to have this option? -

3 day post op and PAIN!!
leatha_g replied to Susan3343's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Remember, your diaphragm was stretched in this surgery. It is not ONLY gas. Your doctor did quite a bit of digging around in the area and it will take time for some things to heal. Think of your diaphragm as a stretched out T-shirt. It doesn't just snap right back. It will take time. Are you using the incentive spirometer to breathe into? Are you walking every single time you think of it? The shoulder pain could come and go for weeks after your surgery. Some of us even had instant pain in the shoulder or lower rib area while eating too quickly or getting to that 'stop' sign time of eating. Your body will be talking a whole new language to you, but I promise, this too will pass. Keep walking! -

Weird. It says 11 voters, but has 15 votes. How does this happen?
