  1. God bless your heart, Jodie. :bananapartyhat: Please don't give up. YOU can do this! Do this for yourself. It's apparent your mom isn't capable of giving you what you need, so you will have to take this in your own hands. Take yourself shopping, get yourself some tuna lunch kits, breakstones cottage cheese snack size, boil yourself some eggs, they have chicken breasts you just throw in the oven for 30 minutes. This is up to you girl! and you have come this far! If you need those antidepressants, please see your doctor. Are you exercising?? Get yourself a LARGE water container, 64 oz and don't stop drinking until you've finished it. Prove to everyone you WILL SUCCEED!

    What's endoscopy like?

Had one in January. I was aware of them beginning to introduce the scope into my throat but don't remember a thing after. I did have a sore throat with both endoscopies I've had. My uvula was extremely swollen for a couple of days, then all was well.

1 week post op and liquid diet a problem.

Glad to hear you're getting regular checkups with the coumadin therapy it's imperative to re-regulate the coumadin and due to the change in dietary habits, monitor that level closely. Things will be different than pre-surgery on a regular diet. Good luck!!

    Hiccups

This is your diaphragm making it's agitation known. Most often, it's a sign of needing to slow down or closing in on that 'stop' sign because you're becoming full. To me, it's a definite 'YIELD' sign.. You'll find lots of references to 'hiccups' if you do a search.
  5. I'm really sorry to hear you're having problems. :bananapartyhat: Is there anyone else who can take you to the ER? You may need some tests, including xrays. You really should not be experiencing ongoing, searing pain. It may or may not be band related. Please let us know what you find out.

    Breakstone's Cottage Cheese

I have had the doubles, which is handy, but I didn't find them as good as the snack size 2% without the fruit. Seemed like the cottage cheese is more watery in the doubles and I can't stand watery cottage cheese.

    Vacation, Lap Band and Flying

Good luck with that! lol, I was with a woman awhile back who'd returned from a cruise having gained 22 lbs because she was unfilled. Yikes.. I'd hate to have to back and re-do that weight loss again..

    Vacation, Lap Band and Flying

I think the theory there is that while lying down, your blood doesn't pool as much as it would while sitting bent at the hip (think kinked Water hose). As a person who developed their first clot on their very first plane ride, I tend to think there are other factors at play as well. Such as compression/decompression, close proximity, not being able to move much, hydration/dehydration. I suspect if you get enough of the factors going all at once you can cause a clot anywhere. I think I've posted an article stating that sitting at your puter for too long is also conducive to clotting and cautioned just as much as 'economy class syndrome'. Unfortunately, my second DVT and later PE DID develop from sitting at the computer for too many hours. See link http://www.lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=2988&highlight=blood+clot

Photo's of my sons Air Force BMT Graduation

Sorry it took me so long to open this thread. I'm sitting here with alligator tears rolling down my face. Like the others, I know a mother's heart wants to protect their son, but you must surely be proud of him. My son has made mention recently of joining the service and while it scares me to death to think of him in harm's way, I know that my heart would surely burst with pride in seeing him become the man that the service can make of him. God bless your son in his journey. I applaud him for his courage and I pray that he will be safe in God's hands as long as he chooses to stay.

    I'm an anomaly

Sounds like a terrible start. I truly hope it all clears up and you do well quickly. How long has your doc been doing bands?

    Another semi NSV

Funny how those closest to us turn out to be our greatest critics, sabatouers, etc. I guess my greatest NSV was when I told the lady at Curves how much I weighed BEFORE she put me on the scale and she said 'there is no way you can way that much!'. Strangers have a much more objective view and those who know us or live in close proximity to us seem to have a need to 'keep us in our place', so to speak. Sad.. Not sure how big or small she is, but take heart in thinking in your own mind, maybe you can offer her your own clothes as you no longer need them. If your stats are up to date, you've lost over 90 lbs!! There is NO WAY one could not notice.. what a witch! Great job!!!

    Band slippage, acid reflux complication

You said - Are you going to perservere with the band or are you looking at alternatives? My situation is a bit more complicated. Because I have issues with a blood clotting problem, I have to take Coumadin/Warfarin which is a blood thinner. My original band doctor told me he WOULD NOT do GB on me due to the possibility of hemorrhage, were there to be a bleeding event during surgery or post op. So, in my mind, I don't have the option of a more invasive surgery. I don't know if this is definitive answer, it's just my own fear based on what one doctor has said. On the other hand, I have now lost 75lbs, I am in much better health, physically and able to move much more than when I was at 250lbs and really physically ill, SO, I still think I probably COULD manage a bypass (I know I can't be the only person on blood thinners who would have ever asked for it.) Finding the doctor with the experience in handling that sort of situation would be the hard part, I presume. So, to answer. I guess I'm in lapband limbo purgatory at this moment. I have gone to get fills, immediately the nighttime reflux begins and I'm totally closed up even with the smallest amounts, so I wind up going back the next day and unfilling. This has been the case with my last 3-4 attempts. :faint: I have had the EGD, which showed no erosion and no severe esophagitis, that was in January. I know that because of the way my esophagus 'feels', it is bound to have gone lax/mushy on me and is not doing what it is meant to do in an optimal fashion. I have systemic lupus, this could be a contributing factor, but there was never any indication of this before banding and even then, not until my second banding. I am pretty sure my next step is esophageal manometry and I guess, honestly, I'm holding off on doing that out of fear that they will tell me I need to have yet another surgery to remove my band. I have been through 3 surgeries since the day I was banded 3 years ago. Including gallbladder and rebanding/hernia repairs. Each time, I have to discontinue my blood thinning medications for several days, then take injections, then bring my blood thinners back to a therapeutic level post op. This is a pain in the butt, not to mention very hard on the body to go through so many surgeries in such a short amount of time. So, I wait and I watch the scales and I TRY to keep my head where it belongs, food-wise, but it's definitely not as easy as when you have that 'governor' working for you. Dr C, if you read this... what would you suggest my next step be?

Anyone Feel Sick After a Fill?

Every single fill I have ever gotten effected my ears (it's all connected, ya know). At least the first few days I notice what feels like an earache/stopped up head flu-like thing. Then once the fill settles in it seems to go away. But I have never experienced any stomach flu symptoms. My sister in law got her feel last week and experienced extreme vertigo for the first few days as well.

    Band slippage, acid reflux complication

I think it's some of both. Yes. In my case, I sincerely no longer get the 'stop' signs I used to. My band no longer just shuts down and there are no signs of any sort of 'pain' 'golfball' 'hard stop' 'soft stop', none of that. I never get in the situation of sliming or PBing, ever. But yes, in addition, I have learned that I can once again eat things that I avoided early on and in effect 'eat around the band'. I really hope they can reposition your band. They wanted to do that with mine, but when they got in there, it broke, so they had to replace it completely.

    Band slippage, acid reflux complication

So sorry to hear of your slip, Curley. I recall you did so very well with your band. I truly hope you can save your existing band, because as you said, the second time around/new band has never been the same for me. Good luck to you and please keep us posted!
  24. I prefer the band - IF it were all as uncomplicated as it was first touted to be. However, knowing what I know now and having been through subsequent surgeries, etc, I often wonder if the bypass would have turned out more effective and less complicated for me.

    Feeling full with the band

Not satisfying in that 'Thanksgiving' warm fuzzy feeling you get pre-band. Not for me. However, if properly restricted, you can be 'full' and satiated as in not being interested in eating anymore. Satisfied in that you no longer go to bed in the evening wishing you 'hadn't eaten all that' or feel like a bloated whale when you lay down in a food induced coma or guilt ridden because no human alive should ever inhale 'all that' food. lol. So I guess my point is 'satisfied' is relative. In my perspective, the relief of no longer gorging myself for whatever reason was immense and even more satisfying than feeling 'stuffed'.
