I still have the evening hungry monster. :think I live alone - so it's easier not to have certain foods around, but it's also much more quiet and makes me worse about eating out boredom.

Congratulations Teresa!!

Each dr. is different. I've even seen some lately on the Yahoo boards that say they went straight into eating regular foods. I find that a bit scary, but I guess they'll find out. The norm I have heard is maybe 1 week Clear Liquids, 1 week full liquids (anything you can drink through a straw), then into soft/mushy foods. Variations to this might be 3 weeks liquids, 3 weeks soft/mushy. The reasoning behind this, so I've heard, is that the first 6 weeks is healing time for your stomach. Even though we only have 5-6 minor incisions on the outside - this really is major surgery. The dr. sometimes have to do some cutting away of tissues inside that we don't see outside. Maybe there are some repairs to hiatal hernias etc. Either way, the tummy has been through a major unsettling and the tummy is generally a grumpy customer. So you have swelling and general disturbance of the natural order of things which needs time to settle and return to normal. Not only this, but your band needs time to find it's place and become 'seated' , if you will. 6 weeks is considered a good time limit to allow this 'seating' or growth of scar tissue around the band so that your chances of slippage or complications later become less. It is said that the less grinding and churning of the stomach during this phase (thus, the liquids/soft foods) the better it becomes settled in it's place. I hope that makes sense.

Wow! Well, thank you so much for such eloquent words. Beautiful! I now have tears in my eyes. lol. You're right! It is a very special thing to connect with people on a different plane than the physical. Very special indeed!

Awesome news, Kimber_lilly!!!! So much will go through your mind between now and your surgery! Just keep reading the posts and asking all the questions so that you can go into this well informed and 'at-ease' with what's to come. We'll be here rooting for your success!!! :D

Please let us know what you learn today. I know it's tedious and maybe not even feasible. But if you're not satisfied with it, you might consider a second opinon. How long has your doc been doing bands? Do you know? I've got my fingers crossed for you!!

Nope, you see it, but what it is is an inset of my Before picture onto my Now picture. They did this as ObesityHelp.com. lol. It's okay, you're not seeing things. If you look real close you'll see it's my head in that horrid Before picture. Leatha -

This has to be my worst! :think -
Honestly. I'm terrible at quoting scientific data. The person or persons that I think do that best are Jessie Ahroni and another lady who calls herself Sandy RN on the Smartbandsters Yahoo Group. Jessie was banded 6 yrs ago, she has written a book and is a nurse practitioner doing fills with a Dr's group in Washington. Sandy is also a practitioner. Jessie can quote you up to the last minute data. She travels to most of the symposiums and workshops that are WLS related. She is very no-nonsense, but a wealth of good information. You can find that board at this addy: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/SmartBandsters/

Amen!! Glory hallelujah! Preach it sistah!! I'm right there with you.. well. :think I'm single.. I don't get the sex part, but I"M WILLING dangit!! We're gonna have to get together sometime, you know? There's several of us here in Texas. Hmm.. something to think about.. -
I think you've come to the right place, then! Actually, there are complications with both surgeries, however, the complications with the lapband are several times less in risk than those of the RNY and like you say - you get to keep your intestines and absorption capabilities intact! The band does not force you to lose the weight by itself. You work with it by learning to make better food choices. It helps you by restricting the volume of what you can take in at any given moment. Jessie Ahroni, who is a nurse practitioner, banded and does fills herself, calls it 'the thinking person's' WLS. I like that. RNY doesn't allow you to think, it just allows you to take in, then it dumps it for you, without benefit of nutrients. Not good in my book! I have been banded 15 months and have lost only half of what I really wanted, but I'm very happy with my loss nonetheless. I've also just been re-banded due to what we think was slippage and had a hiatal hernia repaired. I'd do it all again, if it means I get to lose my weight and gain my old self back in the end! Good luck to you on your decision!!

New here.. and so glad to have found YOU !!

Welcome Cindy!! Great to hear you're doing so well! We share a few things. I also had clots in my legs and lungs a few years back and now have a vena cava filter too! I was banded May, 2003 and have lost 60lbs with about 50 to go! Sounds like you're doing great! Keep up the good work! -

Yea. I pulled a couple of the smaller one's off. One of the one's on the left side - not the biggest, but close to it isn't really scabbed over. I just got another steri-strip and put it back on. Usually I heal faster. Seems like with my first band surgery they just came off on their own, much sooner.. Strange. Oh well. I'm sure it'll happen soon. Thanks Penni! Leatha -

It's definitely not good to be repeatedly vomiting with your band. I do know of people who's bands were compromised due to excessive vomiting from a flu/etc. Best advice is that you have something like Phenergran on hand at all times (so you may want to ask for a script for it), use it - then call to have your fill taken out until your virus is over. Hope this helps! Leatha
