August 2011 Gastric Sleevers!
BroadwayBaby replied to meggspeggs's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved Aug 15th and have lost 41 lbs since surgery so you are about the same as me and you were sleeved after me. Don't despair - I have been stalled for 2 weeks but am determined to lose 100% of my excess - no matter what the statistics say! -
I had my sleeve done on August 15th and then I turned 40 at the end of August - what a way to enter the next decade! I'm looking forward to many years of good health. I like the post about the body being 40 but the mind not feeling that way. I think of that all of the time. My husband is a high school teacher and when I am in visiting him I talk to the students and I SWEAR I am the same age as them...

I agree Forensikchick - I'm glad to see that everyone is about the same. That gives me hope that we'll soon be like the others that had earlier surgery and are in the 80-90 lb weight loss category. I have similar stats to you - I have lost just under 50 lbs and I have 50 to go & my surgery was on August 15th. Hoping we all have a great month and meet our goals!

Hey August All Stars! Let's keep the updates going! It is great to see how everyone is doing and kind of gives me a gauge as to whether I am on track or not. This week was flat for me - no loss. It was funny though because everyone seemed to start noticing my weight loss this week - people I work with, parents of my children's friends, people at church. Everyone is asking me about it... maybe I lost some inches this week. I finally had to break down and buy some new pants. All of mine, even the ones that were tight at the beginning are hanging off of me. I could still wear them with a belt or safety pin but decided to treat myself. Fashion Bug had a huge after Thanksgiving sale so I bought some nice yoga style pants that have an elastic waist but still will look decent enough with a nice shirt to wear to work. I hope everyone had a great week! Here's to meeting our Christmas Challenges!!

Great job everyone! Me - I am so glad you are finally home. Here's to smoother sailing from now on!!

How Much Have You Lost after Gastric Sleeve Surgery?
BroadwayBaby replied to peacequeen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on August 15th and I weighed 241. I have lost just about 50lbs in 3.5 months and now weigh 191.2. Good luck! -
November 26th Check In :)
BroadwayBaby replied to wondering1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am down 2.4 lbs this week to 191.8 - just 2 ounces shy of my Thanksgiving goal. I hope to get into the 180's by next week - haven't been there in about 13 years! I had a great NSV yesterday. I am a singer and do a lot of gigs every Nov/December with people that I only really see during that time of year. I sang with one of the women last night and she asked me if I had lost some weight. I told her that I had lost 50 lbs and she said that when had I arrived at the gig she didn't even recognize me. That made me feel great! -
Post Gastric Sleeve Surgery: Your Experience With Improvement Of Obesity Related Conditions?
BroadwayBaby replied to LoserMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have PCOS and was taking 2000 mg metformin daily and both my endocrinologist and my surgeon said that I should stop taking it after surgery. I just had all of my blood work done and everything is normal! I do notice a slight decrease in hair growth on my face and haven't noticed a huge loss of hair on my head ( I was already very thin on top from the PCOS). I also snored but had never taken a sleep study and my husband told me I do not snore anymore. I am three months out and down 50lbs - 1/2 way to my goal. -
Thanksgiving Challenge....
BroadwayBaby replied to wondering1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so excited! I woke up this morning and am now 2 ounces away from my goal for the Thanksgiving challenge. I had stalled for a few weeks and was feeling like I wasn't going to get close to goal and then in the past few days I've dropped over 3 lbs. I am so happy & I love my sleeve Happy Thanksgiving everyone! -
Hair loss with PCOS before the sleeve?
BroadwayBaby replied to Missnurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thankfully I still have not had any hair loss. I got a cut today to give it some body and I do notice that it seems a bit fuller than before - maybe because of all of the vitamins. It seems inevitable that some is going to fall out in the future but I am really hoping that I might be one of those few that don't lose more. I'll be bald on top for sure if I do! -
I finally broke my stall this week and lost 3 lbs - I am down to 194.2! I'm still 2.8 lbs away from my Thanksgiving goal - I'm going to try really hard to get there but weight loss has been crawling along. If I have another 3 lb week I can do it! I've kicked up my exercise and have been doing protein shakes for snacks instead of cheese, etc. Maybe that will make a difference. I want to enjoy the day on Thanksgiving but I want to hit my goal first. Good luck to everyone this week!

Can you eat more during your period?
BroadwayBaby replied to sunnyd's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes! I had this problem this month - I was hungry all of the time during TOM which is somewhat unusual. Glad the hunger has subsided a little but hope it won't happen every month! -
Trixie - I am so sorry to read about your Mom and the tough year you have had with everything going on at the same time. You are doing the right thing - taking care of your health and hopefully avoiding diabetes and other problems. I hope that the surgery will go well and that you will have positive changes over the next few months that will make you feel healthier. We are all here for you!

Thanksgiving Challenge....
BroadwayBaby replied to wondering1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That's great Wondering! I'm so happy for you making your goal. I am 3.6 lbs away from my 12 lb goal. I didn't lose anything for almost 3 weeks but this week I have gone down 3 lbs so hopefully I can get close to or hit my goal by Thanksgiving. I was fairly optimistic when I picked my goal and then with the stall saw my hopes of hitting it float away. This week has given me new hope that I might just do it! -
Strategies for surviving Thanksgiving??
BroadwayBaby replied to Becca's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks for all of the helpful tips! I am 3 months out and my husband and I always host Thanksgiving. Usually I am running around getting everything ready so I don't eat too much during the meal but afterward - well that's a different story! I have always loved the desserts and the late evening turkey & stuffing sandwiches. I plan to work out in the morning this year, concentrate on eating at the actual meal meal - eat my protein first and then try a few other things I'll like and then have something small for dessert if I have room. If at all possible I will also work out in the afternoon - go for a walk with my family or something like that. It will be interesting to see how things go! -
Am I the only who fears screwing up and gaining it all back?
BroadwayBaby replied to Amanda131's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I too have the same fear. I have been stalled a few times and no matter how many times I read about stalls and keep on doing what I need to do I get afraid that this is it, I will fail and not even be close to my goal weight. I am already battling negativity with my surgeon and endo who have told me that I am being unrealistic to think I can lose and maintain 100 lbs so when the mood strikes me I lapse back into those negative thoughts. I am determined to work my sleeve and eat the foods I am supposed to but I do have creeping fears of failing either during or after the process. -
I didn't lose anything this week. I have been going up and down the same one pound. I didn't exercise as much (one day walking and one at the gym doing treadmill, rowing machine & weights) as I have in the past and had a day or two when I wasn't great with my eating - one was my daughter's birthday and we went out to Chilis. I had part of a sirloin and some garlic shrimp but I also had some chips & queso and cake (very small portions but I was definitely over my calorie goal for that day). I am happy with my total weight loss but frustrated with the slow pace in the last few weeks. I was 199.8 on October 29th and I am 197.2 as of today - super slow! Hopefully things will speed up soon. Hope everyone has a great week going forward!

STALL!! STALL STALL STALLLLLL
BroadwayBaby replied to LUCYCAT's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am almost at 12 weeks and I have also hit a stall that has lasted almost 2 weeks. I was the same as you - right at 200 and SO excited that I hit 199.8. Now I have been up and down a lb and a half either over and under 200 for the past 2 weeks. I haven't been exercising as much as I did previously but have had other stalls as well where I was working out almost every day. I want to be down another 6 lbs by Thanksgiving but am getting discouraged that I won't be able to do it! -
The Stall From Hell!
BroadwayBaby replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just about 3 months out and I have been stalled for almost 2 weeks. I had been going up and down around 200lbs and could not wait to get into the 100's and I got to 199.8 on October 26th. Since then I've been fluctuating up and down a pound or two - it is frustrating! My goal is still to lose about 6 more lbs before Thanksgiving and towards the end of Oct. I thought I might be able to get there... now I am not so sure.... -
I have stalled a few times - at 2 1/2 weeks I stalled for 2 weeks and right now I am 11 weeks and I've been stalled for a week and a half. I wish I had measured because I'm hoping I'm losing inches but I want to see movement on the scale!!! Good luck - it will pass.

BroadwayBaby replied to Candace2314's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Congratulations on both the arrival of your adorable nephew and reaching beyond your weight loss goal! You said it best - now you will have the energy to keep up with him and have fun running around after him! -
That must have felt good! Good motivation to keep working your sleeve
