    Muscle Loss Sucks

Jdub.......not sure what everyone else is getting.....but I now average about 1600-1700 cals on days I lift weights and around 1400 cals when I don't lift....which is basically on Sundays and maybe every other Wednesday.

    Embarrassingly clueless to working out!

My approach / view to exercise is........that as long as you're not hurting yourself, or someone else.........there really is no wrong exercise. So at that point, any movement or activity is a good thing. First starting out with walking /hiking is a good way to gradually ease into exercise. Typically you'll not want to dive head first, as a gradual buildup is usually best for avoiding injury or being so sore after the first session or two that you want to quit. Then just find something that is fun or you really enjoy and / or find what motivates you and go with it. Wish you the best and you'll feel so much better once you're into a exercise routine and being active!

    abdominal work out ideas?

Lots of good ideas there! I'm a sleever, so I can't speak much about the port/band thing. I would also add in some kettle bell work, maybe some light deadlifts and captains chairs as well. Wish you the best and good luck!

    Muscle Loss Sucks

Tim, that's a pretty good calorie intake....not too bad. Once your weight loss plateaus, you should be able to build muscle a little easier with those cals. Sure, send your workout plan and I'm sure some of us will chime in. Don't forget to let us know what your goals are.......get stronger, lift for performance, physique, etc.

    Muscle Loss Sucks

Curvy.....I found that most of the protein bars are sliders for me as well. I can eat about 3 at a time if I wanted to.

    Bypass or Sleeve?

All I can say is I got the sleeve 2 years ago and I am trilled about having it done. Could I feel the same way with the bypass or band? Maybe, but I know the sleeve has been great to me. For me and my fitness requirements and goals, I needed absorption and sleeve has been great!

    HELP! PreWorkout Meal

Ally, it seems we all differ some. If you want to keep trying the resistance training on an empty stomach, I say give it a couple of weeks before you drop that approach and see if your body adjusts more and has more energy after a week or two. When I first started it, I probably only had 20-30 mins in me before I hit the wall, now I can work out for an hour and a half on an empty stomach and with great intensity due to complete focus that I get in that state. Again, exercising this way may not be for everyone, but perhaps worth a try.

    HELP! PreWorkout Meal

I think everyone's body has a different way of responding depending on their meal, how long before workout, etc. For me, I try not to eat 2-4 hours before my workout. I like to exercise on an empty stomach myself. I've tried a small meal right before a workout, a regular meal and hour or two before and I've tried a workout on a completely empty stomach. For me, I have better exercise sessions on an empty stomach and my focus is also much better. But everyone's body seems to have their own optimal point. I certainly would not have a large meal right before a workout. Maybe try a small meal, whey Protein and half a banana about an hour before and adjust from there? Wish you the best!

I'm a long way from Seattle, WA (NC here), but pulling for the Seahawks! They have some local guys (NC State players) playing for them and one that I work out with at the gym during the winter through summer.....JR Sweezy. Go Seahawks!

    Anyone in north carolina

Good for you. Frye was highly recommend and was one of my top choices. How have you done with your sleeve? I've done pretty well, though I haven't lost as much as the typical sleever. But I was a rather low BMI to start with (37). That along with many many other factors determine weight loss. I'm very happy with being sleeved!

Smokin guns!! 235 look great on you! Thanks and I'd probably be ok around 235 if I couldn't drop back into 220's. But I certainly do not want to put on more. You are too nice....thanks.

    December2013

Hello John! Other than what the typical sleever uses.....I use creatine and fish oil. For my protein I'll stick with whey if I have a protein shake the first 2/3 of the day and if I have one in the evening it will be cassein protein.

    Gym Rats: Daily supplement list?

I'll second that about eating clean Fiddleman. If that's not inline, the rest really doesn't matter. I did not eat all that clean during the holidays and I'm trying to fix the damage now.

    Gym Rats: Daily supplement list?

I'll take whey and cassein Protein, creatine and fish oil in addition to what my Dr/Nut requires me to take and what most other sleevers take. The creatine, I'll take it for about 2-3 months, then come off of it for a month or two before taking it again.

I Want To See Before & After Pics!

2+ years (26 months) post op here. Got to my lowest weight this past summer, but now starting to put some back on. I know some is muscle since I've been working out a lot, but I'm thinking not all of the weight gain is lean mass....which worries me a little. So I'm going to have to pay a little more attention to my cal intake and be careful. I'm up to around 235 now and I need to get back to mid-upper 220's and learn to maintain there. #1 is before....around 320 #2 is after majority of weight loss (220's) #3 is current (235)

    January-February 2014 pullup challenge

I'm getting in a little late with this topic, but I've been wanting to hit 20 pull ups in one set for the past few months, but stuck at around 15-17 a set. I do them at least twice a week, but I'm mostly not reaching my goal due to putting back on a few pounds AND needing help with my technique/form. Fiddleman..thanks for the video links and I'm going to study them to see if I can hit my 20 rep set of pull ups as well as some of the other pull up challenges.
