    Newbie Here

Thanks for sharing. this is such fun. it's hard to talk alot to people who don't know how it feels to be overweight. I have told some people too (the ones I trust for support). I remember a friend who had the roux n y years ago and she did not tell any of us. when she came back to work people kept questioning her constantly. I remember how uncomfortable she was with explaining, I am going to ease into letting people know that things are changing. I don't want lots of extra attention. I am happy that my doc told me to lose weight b4 the surgery, I didn't expect to lose more than the 10lbs. he asked for. it's been a great start and people are starting to see that I am working on my weight now - b4 the surgery1

    Hunger Issues

I would say be careful about buying into everything you hear. Trust your doc and his nurses. Ask lots of questions and think positive!! God wants all of us to be happy, he gave us a brain and we need to use it as much as possible! It is easy to feel fear when someone else has had trouble. Trust those you know you can trust ( and pray for those who need the help).

    4 days post op

boy, I love to hear about all that weight!! did you feel full enough. I think my doc will use the same food formula. I wonder if the person who is having trouble is chewing well and not mixing any liquids with the meal. I have been told no liquids 30 minutes b4 or after?

    Introduction

this has already been so good for me. I am looking for support, I want to be a longterm success story. My health is the main objective for me. I have been on meds for Cholesterol for a few years and last year I got a CPAP machine for sleep. I am grateful that these things help us but - losing weight will take care of both of them! I love seeing the weight people are losing. I started at 239 at the end of July, I now weigh 222. My doc started me on a 1200 calorie diet after the first meeting. I was supposed to lose 10 lbs. b4 the surgery. Isn't it funny how we lose when we stop eating junk!! I started going to curves in Aug. and it is so good, I am down one pant size and the pain in my legs has gone away. I am having surgery on Oct 28th & am really excited. Thanks to all who visit this site!!!

    Protein Drinks Stage 1

I bought it at a Vitamin Shoppe store in Mn. I am sure the brand can be found everywhere. I paid 21.99 but as a member I had a 20% discount coupon. I've researched & found that whey protein is the best to use. I have talked to many people about the right one. The 32 grams comes because I used soymilk which has 7 grams. of protein. I use the chocolate but it also comes in vanilla & tropical deamsicle. I figure, if I need to drink this and insure I get enough protein, I will pay for it. One of the nurses told me her brother was not getting enough protein after his surgery and started to lose his hair. Talk to your Dr.,the nurses and store employees. I started with 3 small pouches of each flavor to make sure it tasted good. the tub is 12 oz. making it 11 servings if you fill the scoop to the top.I don't always fill it to the top, I occasionally add a sm. banana or other fruit.
  10. feeling glad that I finally joined an online support group.

    Psych appointment

they just want to be sure you can handle the large weight loss in such a fast pace. Not everyone is ready for such a big change. The funny thing you will do is the MMPI test, they will know who you are after that is done. Don't worry it's all part of the "getting ready" procedure.

    Protein Drinks Stage 1

I have been using Jay Robb whey protein powder. 190 calories with my soymilk; 32 mg protein, carbs 5mg. It tastes good and I feel as though I am actually getting something healthy, plus alot of protein!

why do i need a sleep study

the info I received from my insurance listed the sleep study as a part of the process. I enjoyed my sleep study very much and now I am using a CPAP. If you don't need one they will know right away. I have been told that I will probably not have to use it after I lose weight. My insurance paid for most of the study. My husband is sleeping much better now! i had my appointment with the pulmonologist yesterday and without asking me any questions or looking at my chart, she said that she automatically sends her lap band patients for a sleep study. i told her that i do not feel that i need one, i do not snore, moan, have trouble breating at night, wake up tired, smoke or any other risk factors that i see on all the sleep apnea sites. my husband of 18 years said that he has never witnessed me waking up to catch my breathe. my question is, if i am healthy enough to undergo an upper endoscopy next week with anethesia why do i need a sleep study for an hour long lap band procedure? what if i did have apnea, my endoscopy is scheduled before any lung or sleep test is scheduled. my insurance said that depending how the doctor bills the sleep study, i can be responsible fr 25% of the cost. that is unreal. i have decided to go with another doctor that feels that i am not a risk factor for apnea and will only have a chest xray and a breathing test. why do doctors put you through tests that are not necessary.
  18. I understand that the weight lose from the lap band is much less that the other surgeries. tell me what your experience has been.

  19. As a pre operative patient I am not sure what to expect immediately after the surgery. how much pain will I experience?
