    Goal!!! 1/16/12...

yahoo!!!!! we love to hear such great news. good for you.
  8. I also weigh and measure everything I eat. I eat protein 1st, I try to try some new items so as not to get bored. some months the weight loss is small but I have lost many inches. I am happy with this. I keep reminding myself that I didn't gain all the weight and all these inches overnight - I'm not going to lose them overnight either. I try not to compare myself to others. If I know that I am doing what my doc and nutritionist has told me to do - trust that it will work. people lose at different rates of speed. m doc told me this was not going to happen as fast as a bypass - I did not want that surgery. this is going to work, it is working and I feel success. you have not told us what you eat and how you exercise. they definitely work together & they are not magically happening without daily work.
  9. down another pant size - can't believe it size 14!!!!

    Let's be honest about exercise

I love to go exercise!!! it took me awhile to get into the routine but now I hate to miss and feel guilty when I don't go. I finally took a chance and went to a Zumba lass on Saturday, it was fun but I was soooo lost. sweated like crazy... I'll go again & again. I am convinced it has made a BIG change in my body changes. even more change than the weight!
  14. I took a zumba class today, holy cow what a workout!

  18. I have a friend who started exercising this month. she is going to a club, trying to go everyday. by the 2 week mark she hadn't noticed any weight loss, she became discouraged. thankfully she commented on FB & this is why I am starting the topic. One of her friends sent this message to her. Melissa wrote: "Jackie, stay with it. food Journal is a great idea, it's just simple math; Calories in-calories out=calories deficit. Livestrong.comhas a place to keep track of the food and the workouts, giving you an approximate idea of how many calories you've burned. What you're doing so far is great, adding some strength training in there will help a lot. When you have more muscle you burn more calories, even just sleeping. Strength training can be lifting weights, pilates, yoga, boot camp...something where you are taxing the muscles. Weight yourself once a week about the same day/same time...you will go up and down everyday a bit. But don't be so concerned about the weight, think about how your clothes are fitting you, even better take measurements of your waist, hips, thighs, and upper arms, monitor those. 1 pound of muscle and 1 pound of fat are the same weight...but muscle is much more dense, hence you may lose fat and gain muscle, but your clothes get looser. The best way to lose weight is 2 pounds per week, it's been proven that's the best way to keep it off. It didn't take you 1 month to put the weight on, it will not take you 1 month to take it off. And like I said have fun, don't get obsessive, just enjoy the day for what it is and the goal will come, you just have to keep working. It's fantastic that you feel better after only two weeks, enjoy that! Be Proud! You're doing great! Ask questions when you need to. Sounds like you have lots of support, that's huge...we are all routing for you! You've got this ROCK STAR! http://www.livestrong.com/" Do you have support? Do you accept support? Can you listen to that support, even when you don't want to? I love the support I get from this site. I don't know any of you but I feel encouraged and accountable. I feel that it is important to support each other, as most of us have only had criticism. I feel that it is important to enjoy each day for all the minutes I am given. I hope that I never forget the weight and inches I lose and forget who I am. Paying it forward is our responsibility. Can we really do this?
  19. hope you won't mind if I pray for you. thank you for working so hard!

    ?????

I was told to start 1200 calories on the seminar date. they also told me I had to lose 5% of my weight before the surgery. I stayed on the 1200 calories because so much of the info said we would probably not lose the 100 lbs we all wanted to lose. my insurance had me meet with a nutritionist 5X before surgery also( kind of informational and shrink work). I thought if I got a head start I would begin to eat in a more respectful manner. I certainly was not respectful b4 that! It helped me to stop and think if I really wanted to eat that danish. I started to look at the nutritional info for all the food we ate and was shocked!!! I knew better but always ignored the truth. For the 1st time in many years I felt I needed to be accountable!!?? I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised how well I did and how committed to this new lifestyle I became b4 the surgery. I had decided I really had to succeed and I was nervous. my BMI was high so I sure didn't worry they would not let me continue on.
  21. good for you girl!!! keep up the great attitiude, it's how you win! it sure scares me when a plateau stops all weight loss.
  22. ok, first thank you for all that honesty! it is a really big step. don't worry about what the doc says. start to put you 1st, do what you want to do for yourself. I am sure they have had other patients have similar stories. I hope you can trust them again, their job is to support you. make the appointment and go no matter what you weigh, bring someone with you. try to post comments everyday with the same honesty you started with today! you will be able to do this ONE DAY & ONE STEP AT A TIME. there are a lot of people here who want to see you succeed - join them!!!

You Say The Band Didn't Work

It's interesting how this subject keeps going!!! when I 1st found this site, I read & read; lurking in the shadows trying to figure it all out. I trust my doc (University of Minnesota) best ever! I understand that having surgery there is always a risk. bad things do happen and I am sorry for that but, we cannot be controlled by negativity. not in any part of our life!!! we say what we think & what we have experienced, that's great but it is what WE think and experience. we are not doctors or professionals. I never took the negative comments too seriously & if i did I asked the professionals about the comment! the part I appreciate the most here is the positive reinforcement! we have to remember where we came from. I was overweight for a very long time. I didn't talk about it, I didn't ask for help, I didn't have comfort from fellow struggling people. I do now, we have not personally met but we know what it's like to be heavy. we know what it feels like to be fat and to be on the way down from fat. we cannot let some negative people have that much power. I thank every positive person on this site.
