Dr. Elli-Uic Hospital Chicago
mantusmom replied to lalaj's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hi, I'm from chicago. I had my band done at Mercy back in Sept, of 2011. -
I ordered some a few weeks ago, just to try and see if I liked them. They were pretty good. I was expecting an aftertaste due the consistancy. I loved that they had so much protien, very few net carbs and sugar. I keep them in my purse for when I get hungry and cant eat properly. Hope you have a good experience with them.

Can You Tell Me Your Favorite Meals!!!
mantusmom replied to kr8160311's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I LOVVVVVVEDD mashed cauliflower, which I still eat today and I am 5 months out. Sometimes I'll eat it by its self for days. I make it with low sodium chicken broth which I steam the cauliflower in, light sour cream, 1/4 reduced fat cheese, salt-pepper to taste. I use my emersion blender to mash it down. It is to die for. -
Today Is My 38th Birthday And I Have Lost 60lbs
mantusmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am so excited that today is my birthday and I have lost 60 lbs, I started out at 361.. I can't say it's been the easiest thing to do. i've had my bumps in the road but I'm still trucking along. My goal is to be 250 by my graduation this May, so i can be fierce. Also if you guys can send some prayers up to the big guy, I'm applying to graduate school to get my masters as a Speech and Language Pathologist and extra prayers couldn't hurt since they only let 30 ppl in the program. Smooches -
I was banded on Sept. 16, 2011. When I started my journey I was 361, at the day of surgery I was 330. I have been loosing consistanly until Thanksgiving. This was my first thanksgiving since the death of my mother last year and I was so sad and depressed. I stayed home because I couldn't stand to be with anyone and thier family, when I was missing my so much. Since then I have found myself popping things in my mouth, eating things I have been able to resist with no problem. I have just gotten to the point where I could not eat things I buy for my son. And here I am sabotaging myself after all this hard work. Last week was her birthday and I spiraled back into that place. The 16th of this month marks the one year anniversary of her death. I am trying so hard not to go back to old habits but my saddness is so hard to shake and keep into perspective. I have even noticed my workouts are as intense as they used to be. I need help BADLY. I go tomorrow to see my surgeon and at thanksgiving I weighed in 304, I weighed myself today and I am 307. I wanted to be out of the 300's when I went to see him, well that's not going to happen. If anyone has been here and can help, please do.

Loosing Momentum...please Help
mantusmom replied to mantusmom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone, I appreciate all your words of encouragement. Today I went and worked out and felt a lot better. I am still very sad but i am trying real hard to deal with it in a different way besides food. I am reminding myself why I started this journey in the first place. It's really nice to have a place to come to for support and encouragement. -
115lbs Gone In About 9 Months With Lap Band Surgery!
mantusmom replied to TracieR's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
wow.. you look so good. I hope to be there oneday soon. -
I got my first fill yesterday and was given 1.5 cc. However I have 2cc in total, was very surprised tolearn that I already had .5cc since surgery. Which got me to wondering how common is it to be given a small fill during surgery. Either way I'm happy because they didn't want to give me a fill since I have been loosing consistantly. I hope this fill will help increase my weight loss.

Need Help Please I'm Scared
mantusmom replied to Imabizebee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had this same problem about a week ago, only to find out it was GAS! It is very scary to have this pain and not understand why. See if you are eating anything that may give you gas. I am glad to say it passed in a day or so. I do hope that is only gas for you as well. Good luck -
Starting back to they gym??
mantusmom replied to KristinInCO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 4 weeks post-op and this is my second week working out. I don't lift waits but I work out to what feels comfortable for me. I have to admit I was sore the first week but feel fine now. I would say it is probably best to listen to your doctor, but if you just can't wait why not power walk. You'll get the work out with out hurting yourself. Good luck -
I had the same problem after my ECHO and after my stress test they found that everything was ok. I do hope the same happens for you. Good luck on your test.

I have not recieved my first fill as of yet but I can understand that craving after seven. When I get a sweet cravining i'll grab a sugar free popscicle, which you can get in the fruit flavors as well as dreamsicles or fugde pops. Those usually do the trick if not I sometimes have sugar free pudding or grab a greek yogurt with a little granola on top for crunch. I'm sorry I can't say anything to Snacks when you get a fill because I have no restriction and stick to the serving size because I too gained 5 pounds and was devistated. Good luck on your journey

Should I go or not go ??
mantusmom replied to Nicole0425's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on sept. 16 and honestly 3 days out I felt better but wasn't able to do a whole lot. I thankfully didn't get the pain in my shoulder and I walked as much as possible evn if it was just walking up and down the hallway of my apartment. Also because of where the port was placed if I sat up more than about 30min. I was in a lot of pain. By day 5 I didn't need any pain medication but I did tire very easily. I would say see how you feel. Don't try to over do it. Maybe explain to your friend ahead of time so she knows you may not attend. And if you can tolerate the pain maybe take your pain meds and just go for a litttle while and see how you feel. Just remember you are healing and you can't rush that process. -

Hi Jason, I am also from chicago and was banded as of september 16. This all new to me and it would be nice to have someone to talk to about what changes are to come either good or bad. Or just someone to talk to who is going through this as well or to just make a new friend. So feel free to hit me back. -

mantusmom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
HI Everyone, I was banded on september 16 and now when I drink my protien drinks or eat Jello I can feel it going down, stop and then finishing going down. However when I drink Water, tea or anything else I feel nothing Is this normal? Also with having the band how can you tell your are "full" since it is all liquid. I tend not to drink very much lately because I don't know what that feeling I'm looking for is and I don't have much of a desire to consume ANYTHING. Any advise or knowledege would be greatly appreciated. -
Sept 2011 bandsters
mantusmom replied to WannaBeSlimNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Sept. 16. I am glad to say after day 2, I didn't have very much gas pain and I never experienced the pain in my shoulder. However on day 2 i was crying to my sister "what have I done". On one hand I was glad to be on this journey but on the other I was scared of what was to come. Now at day 5 I'm feeling a lot better both mentally and physically. I am so excited at the prospect of really being an active mom to my 3year old son and just finding out what life has to offer not being afraid to "live" instead of existing.
