In July 2005 after seeing a photo of myself at a friend's wedding I realized that things had gotten way out of hand. Shortly after, I saw a commercial for a local hospital having an information session on surgical weight loss. I attended, and after much personal meditation I decided that Lap-Band was the right choice for me.
I selected a surgeon, went through all pre-op tests (including discovering a stone-filled gallbladder which was promptly removed), and got my surgery date set.
In the first year, I lost just over 60 lbs. Slowly I started to slip, eating more things that weren't so healthy. In June 2007 I found out I was pregnant, but by mid-July I had miscarried. It was a huge blow and unfortunately I fell into a deep depression. I was completely off the wagon, and within another year or so had completely gained back all I had lost.
In 2009, I got pregnant and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl in January 2010. While pregnant, I'd had all saline removed from my band to ensure I was eating enough nutrients for the baby and myself. This continued while I breastfed her for 15 months. By the time she'd weaned, I'd gained even more weight and decided to immediately make an appointment to get back on track.
By this time, the staff at my clinic had changed. My surgeon was no longer working with the hospital, my nurse practitioner had left, and they'd even moved to a new office. This was definitely going to be a fresh start. Which, due to my own weaknesses, didn't last long. I am now 4 months into my return, have only lost a few pounds, and am at a point where I need to seriously dig my heels in and get down to business.
Today (Sept 2011), I had my band re-adjusted one more time - to the amount it was at when I initially lost my weight in 2006. I have a food log. I have a fridge well stocked with healthy food. And now I have Lap-band talk for support.
I turn 30 in June 2012. My goal is to lose 30 lbs before I turn 30. If I'm lucky, I want to do it twice. But I'm going to take small steps, set small goals, and do whatever I can to get healthy.
