  1. on this forum i have read many many posts from people that said that the two week pre-surgery diet is not a "liver shrinking diet". it is just the surgeons way to get you used to following a liquid diet. some people even said they didn't follow it and advised others that it wasn't a big deal if they didn't follow it. last night the dietician told us that yesterday she saw our surgeon and he was very upset. she said he just had a tough surgery where the patient did not follow the diet at all and they had so much trouble maneuvering around his liver and trying with difficulty to retract the liver to successfully complete the surgery. the patient's liver was hanging down too far to retract it. it took longer than it should and finally they were able to complete the surgery. she told us that the liver shrinking diet does reduce the amount of fat around the liver and around your stomach and is an imporant part of this process especially if you have a high BMI or a fatty liver. just thought i would share that story.
  2. at my last nutrition class we found out that on the pre op diet, you can substitute one Protein shake a day for 3 oz of boneless skinless chicken breast grilled. this is a definite for thanksgiving. it will make me feel like i am eating dinner with the family. 1/2 cup of salad cucumber, tomatoe, lettuce and splash of fat free italian dressing all allowed on my pre op diet. not bad.

just got a call from the surgeon's office

oh to be 30 again. lol. i am going to 42. how the heck did that happen. if it wasn't for my body being tired from being overweight i feel like i am 16 inside. i am super excited. at the beginning in august i would fall asleep dreaming of this and how i am going to look and feel at possibly 150 pounds. i think the last time i was 150 pounds i was in middle school. thank you arnetta

    The Last "Hoorah"...

congrats to you and your wife on your anniversary. we didn't gain this weight in one day and we have a lifetime of bad habits to overcome. we have to learn that we do not have to celebrate the good times or console the bad times with food. that is going to take us some time. you seem to be on the right track. look ahead; don't look back. you will be very successful. even if you have a slip here or there, don't give up, just keep going.

    advice wanted and needed....

i just read this post. sorry i was away for the weekend. definitely go to the gyno, they can tell sometimes just by the feel if it something to worry about. last year i had the same thing and the doctor said that my bras are not supportive enough and it was a ligament just getting stretched. of course i won't say don't worry because we always worry about these things. i will certainly pray for you and i hope you get good news soon. by the way, congrats on the promotion and good luck on the move. that is so exciting.
  11. any exciting plans for your birthday wednesday?

    New

my seminar was august 10th; first meeting with Surgeon August 15th and surgery December 1st. the time at first went slow but now the last month is flying. good luck. the best things are worth waiting for.
  20. why does the diet vary from surgeon to surgeon? it should be standard, but so should the insurance specifications. some insurances require a dr supervised diet for six months and some do not. just would be nice if we were all on the same page, but i guess all things are worth fighting for. Matt you lucky stiff. i have known about the pre surgery diet since my seminar so if you haven't been told about it by now, i am sure you will not have to do it. Rejoyce, you hit the nail on the head, the better condition you go into surgery, the better you go out. the dietician also said the high protein liquid shakes help with the healing process also 24 hours after surgery, so the week or weeks before, the more protein you consume, the better you should heal after surgery.
  21. good luck; this is a tough season to do a liquid diet, but we made this decision and there is no turning back. i received good news last night; the pre surgery diet will allow you to replace one of your protein shakes each day with 3 ounces of plain grilled chicken. i am going to try to not do this at all but on thanksgiving i am going to have this with the 1/2 cup of salad and fat free italian dressing i am allowed and enjoy a dinner with the family. there is a god; i can eat some sort of a thanksgiving meal with the fam.
  22. i had my last nutritionist appointment last night. it left me feeling pumped and very ready to take this journey. i am so excited. 22 more days and i will be banded. i am not overly religious, but thank you god for making this possible.

  23. do insecurities and feelings of intimidation ever go away after you lose weight? I hope so.

    Lets get the party started....

hey matt; we talked before on the december bandsters post. This is the best birthday gift we can give to ourselves. my birthday is next thursday the 17th (fellow scorpio) and that is the day i start my two week presurgery diet. i am italian originally from brooklyn new york and i can certainly relate to the Manga. way too much of that going on. a plate of pasta as a first dish and a second dish of some sort of meat. here's to a thinner us in 2012 and the many many many extra years we incurred. good luck on your surgery.
  25. just checking in. how are things? how's the process going?
