Those are good questions to ask both your doctor and nutritionist. I will say your recovery period will be a good bit longer than for many of us that work in offices. I have a 3 wk restriction to 10 lbs and then 3 wks to 20 lbs. After that I can lift what i want. Good luck.

I saw my doc 3 days after surgery and was strongly reminded to just sip. 1 ounce every 15 minutes and 4 oz per hour. At most 1 extra ounce per hour. Not to try to fit it in faster or go over on that amount. Overall daily goal is a minimum of 48 oz if you're up for 12 hours. 64 ounces takes 16 hours. I will admit it's hard to sip but /i found a couple of very small glasses that hold only 2 ounces. I fill that up and stretch it over 1/2 hour. I don't keep the Water bottle at hand, but have to walk to the kitchen to get a refill. I'll admit it's hard to keep the pace slow and I especially miss taking large swigs as I take my walk. But I surely don't want to put to much stress on the stitches these first couple of weeks nor stretch out the pouch. I just keep in mind that this is one step along the way and soon I will be able to have a bit more (but no more chugging beer, lol).

High Protien and super yummy
rubyspring replied to FishingNurse's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My regime is a lot like carolina girl's with a limit on carbs of 15 grams per drink. Goal is 70 protein per day. One thing I am aware of is higher carbs will trigger more hunger; so be careful of the high carb drinks. -
Dallas Looking for Answers
rubyspring replied to dallasmom4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i'm a self pay sleeve and had many of the co-morbidities: high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea (undiagnosed until I started testing for the surgery), and diabetes. I figured my risks with these were much higher than from the surgery. With 100+ lbs to lose and almost 60 years old I expect to have some excess skin issues. However, when I lost 100 lbs in my early 40's I had no excess skin at all. Good luck. -
I suppose this is a pretty personal problem, but was wondering if this happened to anyone else and how long it took to resolve the issue. Had my sleeve done on Monday, Aug1, early afternoon. Was able to pee at midnight while I was still on nothing but the IV and ice chips. No luck on Tuesday although I was happily (pain meds are wonderful) sipping my water and jello. Sent me home with a catheter and a prescription for Flomax (yup they do give it to women). Had the catheter taken out a few hours ago and hoping for my body to do what it should.

Pre-Op and gaining weight
rubyspring replied to CowgirlJane's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This may be much more restrictive than what you are looking for but my pre-op diet has been low carb until I went on all liquids. The targets were 70-80 grams of protein, 15-30 grams of carbs and 20-30 grams of fat. That gives a calorie range of 700 to 900. I couldn't have any bread, pasta, rice, or starchy vegetables and no fruit. You could use this as a starting point and modify by adding fruit (more carbs), small portions of starches (more carbs) but I would be cautious about adding too many. Proteins are much better. I also used on protein shake instead of a meal, usually breakfast. I lost about 15 pounds in the 6 weeks before going to all liquids. Good luck. Your on the right track by switching to whole grains. -
Me too, me too. Been cleaning house this morning just to keep busy. I'm sharing the same time slot as mamamckinzie. We'll all the on the losers bench by Monday evening. Good luck everyone!!!

Hang in there and hope you can enjoy the rest of the visit. I often think ppl don' t listen to what we say, they hear only the words that they want to. Good luck next week, I'm getting sleeved on Monday, so we get to start the month off on a new way of living. -
Kids say the darndest things
rubyspring replied to mommyofLDS's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That's really great especially since he is probably one of the main reasons you did this. I was my 4 year old grandson telling me I was fat that helped motivate me to do something about my weight. I'm just hoping I get the same response you did someday. -
3 Months Post Op
rubyspring replied to MaeConnie68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on your progress; it's always nice to hear about the successes. Good luck to your husband, too! -
So I'm still a bit nervous about surgery on Monday but had a couple of small successes today. First, we had a catered retirement lunch today for one of my colleagues. The folks who work directly for me know about my upcoming surgery but most everyone else in the office doesn't. So I came down to lunch with my cup of broth and bottle of Water and settled in. When asked if I was eating, I simply said I had some test coming up and this is just bad timing, no hassle and I bet everyone thinks I'm going for a colonoscopy (lol). Second, I took the stairs back to my office - 2 long flights - and realized that I wasn't out of breathe when I got to the top. The weight I've lost so far and the regular walking is already paying dividends. Thanks for listening.

August Sleevers!!!!!!!!!!!
rubyspring replied to Kayla's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I've seen both of the following mentioned by others on this site, too. Hibiclens is an antiseptic antimicrobial skin cleanser that i'm supposed to wash my torso with twice a day for 4 days before surgery and then that morning. Nystatin is used for fungal infections of the mouth, 4 times a day for 4 days pre-op. He said using them would reduce risk on complications. All I do is follow his instructions:) -
Good luck. I'm fitting my sleeve in just before I need to start prep for audit in Oct.

How many grams of PROTEIN?
rubyspring replied to Sweet Pee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My doctor says to try for 70 grams of protein and 30 grams of carbs but ismuch more concerned about just getting in at least 48 oz of fluids for the first few weeks. -
I'd be fine if someone on my team gave a shorter notice as long as they are caught up on their work, we are not in the middle of something critical like the audit, and they are sure their backup is available to cover.
