Forbidden Medications Post-Sleeve
AKMama replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was told not to take Aleve, Ibuprofen, aspirin or NSAIDS for the first 2 months. Then sparingly after that. So I'm trying hard not to start back taking any of them. I do know that Tylenol doesn't do anything for me so far, other than that though what is our choice? -
I just bought this book this weekend. Lots of great recipes and information.

I Have A Date--And It's Next Week!
AKMama replied to goldenraisin214's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Goldenraisin214, Glad your doing so well, I'm down 25 lbs. so I guess we are doing pretty good. I have been really lucky in that I haven't thrown up but there have been a time or two that I felt if I could I would feel better. So far chicken breast seems to be the hardest thing I've eaten, I think it's just too dry. I love salmon, funny how fast you get full now. Well, take care an keep lossing. -

So Frustrated With Eating Out!
AKMama replied to Ms skinniness's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Dorrie, I know exactly how you feel . This past Friday was my husbands birthday and we had everyone over for dinner and cake. He loves Thanksgiving so I made a turkey breast with all the trimmings then Chocolate cake with chocolate and vanilla frosting. When it came time to eat I had about two bites of turkey and greenbeans and a couple bites of mashed potatoes and was done. I was full but watching everyone I couldn't help but wish it would be nice to have a full plate. Then when it was time for dessert I dished up cake and ice cream for everyone but myself and sat at the table watching everyone and smelling the chocolate. (Has anyone else noticed that your sense of smell is a lot stronger?) Then we went to town Saturday (We live about 2 hours from the nearest city) which normally I would have been thinking the day ahead where are we going to eat. Now I really don't care because no matter where we go or what I get 4 or 5 bites in and I'm done, just sitting there and watching my husband and daughter finish eating. Sometimes it is hard watching everyone else enjoy the food you can't have anymore. I've noticed too, that food doesn't seem to taste as good as it used to. I don't know if it's because I eat so little or what but I can fix something or go out to eat and really be looking forward to it; then when my food comes it just doesn't tase that great. Plus you have to eat so slow that my food gets cold by the time I'm done. Sometimes I feel like it would just be easier to be on a liquid diet. Don't get me wrong, I love my sleeve and I don't regret the surgery one bit. My health has improved so much and I feel better than I have in years but when food was such a big part of my life sometimes it's hard to not have that comfort anymore. Now I am trying to eat healthier and I am a lot pickier too about what I eat. Just have to remember why I'm on this path and that there is more to life than eating. -

Ugh, Unjury Tastes Like Butt!
AKMama replied to upwardfocusedgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i agree about the smell of the protein powders so I drink out of a travel mug so I don't have to smell it. That said, I love coffee so this is what my husband came up with for me. He makes a pot of really strong decaf then pours it in ice cube trays and freezes; then in the morning he mixes - 1 cup fat free milk - 9 grams protein 1 bttle of the Special K breafast drink - 10 grams protein 4 or 5 coffee ice cubes 1 shot sugar free carmel syrup 11/2 scoops of unjury unflavored - 30 grams protein Total 50 grams of protein Blend it all together and it will make two 16 oz. portions. This is what I will drink on during the day and really like it. I feel like I'm drinking a frappuccino or at least a cold coffee. I tried the Nectar fruit flavors, I couldn't do it. I might try them again before I completely rule them out. If I drink anything with protein powder in it though I do have to use the travel mug so I don't smell it. -
Help! Post-Op Period Gone Crazy!
AKMama replied to Shellybellyrelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love this site, you can find anything. I woke up this morning in horrible pain thinking what the heck happened. I went to bathroom and discovered Aunt Flo had moved in. I have always had heavy and painful menstruals. I have no idea how this one is going to be but from what I can tell so far it's gonna be bad. What I'm wondering is what have you taken for the cramps? I have been told I can't take ibuprofen or aleve for 2 months post op. -
Saggy Skin Tips And Tricks
AKMama replied to crosswind's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have never heard of the skin brushing, can't wait to try some of these techniques. I definitely don't want to have a tummy tuck. That I do keep hearing about and how painful it is. -
I had a protein shake exciting I know...
-
I completely understand, I felt the same way and had even told my husband that I felt like I should not be doing so well. I haven't been sick other than when I tried a couple of sips of choclate milk and got to experiment with the whole dumping syndrome. Now though I have tried quite a few different things and everything goes down and stays down ( thats the part I'm really happy about) Plus I feel great. So... don't feel bad for feeling good, that's why we've all had the surgery in the first place was to feel better. I hope that everyone who has had any problems gets better and has the the most success possible.

Tomorrow Is 1St Day Back @ Work!?!?
AKMama replied to Autumnjazz's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to go back to work last week, like you I was physically ready but don't care for my job either right now so I was not looking forward to it. The thing though that I have discovered was even though I didn't tell any of my co-workers that I was having the surgery (I was just going on vacation) That when I got back I really didn't care who knew. I guess once it was done it took all the pressure off of having to explain my reasons for having it in the first place. -
My surgen warned me ahead of time that at about 3 weeks would be a stall and not to worry. I think I was like a lot of people thinking that the weight would just fall off after my surgery. I know when I first came home I was weighing myself all the time. Finally, I started thinking the weight didn't just show up over night so why am I stressing over not losing a pound a day. So even though the weight is coming off slower than I had hoped, I am now learning alot about my body and my health I can now where shoes (my feet and ankles had swollen so bad I had to wear bedroom shoes all the time) which I have not been able to do for a while and I have ankles. I can walk up a flight of stairs and not have to stop to catch my breath. I feel like doing things when I get home from work besides putting on my p.j.s and watching t.v. Overall I feel better than I have felt in years. So hang in there, the weight will come off. Just don't forget all the other things that come along with the WLS too. It is a journay but we are all in it together.

Thank you I will be taking your advise.
-
So I have a question for you, I'm two weeks out and on Mushy/soft foods. Tonight I had about 1/2 cup mashed potatoes with maybe a tablespoon of sloppy joe mix on top. I was able to eat it no problem. Is this normal or average? I have been mostly on protein shakes I was not into all my food going in a blender. I was just kinda surprised that I was able to it a full half a cup. I felt fine but can't help but think I shouldn't be able to eat that much so soon. I'm terrified that I'm going to stretch my pouch out.
-
I love your goals. Your on your way!
-
Yea, thats exactly what my Nuttritionalist said that at this stage mashed potatoes was fine because your only eating such a little amount. I will say that now that I have tried other foods I do get full a lot faster and can't eat nearly as much. I have been so lucky though in that I haven't gotten sick from anything that I have tried. I did take your advise and bought me a new scale so that I can measure my food so I can start getting an idea of portion sizes. Thanks again for all the advise.
