I'm just beginning my lap band journey. My father and I made a doubly consultation appointment for this friday (sept 23rd).
Right now I am the heaviest I’ve been since I was 14. I lost a lot of weight between the ages of 15-18 because of the boarding school I was in (terrible food), sports I was playing in High school, and when I went to college (once again terrible food). But since I’ve been working I’ve put on 30 pounds in a year. All those lunch breaks running to fast food restaurants has really taken it’s toll.
I also played volleyball, basketball and softball from my school’s modified and JV teams and I was always very athletic. I played all 3 sports since I was 5 or 6 and was always fit growing up. I also played softball on the varsity team my senior year when I left my boarding school and came back to my public school.
I’ve been heavy since I was 12. I was diagnosed with depression and put on heavy medication like seroquel, and abilify (at the same time). I ended up going from 120 to 170 in just a few short months. That only made my depression worse and needless to say my weight also just kept getting worse and worse.
At 14 I was 240, but the time I spent at my boarding school helped me go down to 210-215. Then Back at my normal high school I lost ever more, going up and down between 195-210. At college I stayed a consistent 200.
Since I’ve come home from my away college last October and got my job last November I now weigh 235.
I’ve been trying to diet and I’ve been working out a few nights a week with my Dad and I even cut out the fast food at work and started bringing my own lunch in but nothing is helping.
So I’m hoping that the lap band will help both my father and I.
I’m really scared I’m going to develop diabetes or heart problems. I already have really bad back problems from my chest but I’m sure my weight isn’t helping that either.
Also my Dad weighs around 250 and he’ll be turning 60 at the end of October and I don’t want to see him develop more problems then he already has. He has high blood pressure and cholesterol problems. I really want him to stick around for as long as he can.
